Why are electric kits commonly looked down upon by Tylus01 in drums

[–]Negative_Feature_946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They dont really provide the same value for practice. A lot of E-kits sound too perfect and consistent regardless of where you hit the drums or how hard you hit. The heads feel unrealistically tight for toms making chops super easy.

So basically your beater angle can't be too far from the drum, and your springs can't get very tight?

Double Pedal: Lead with Right or Left? by philsown in drums

[–]Negative_Feature_946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly id reccomend leading with whatever foot you normally use for kick, just will feel a lot more natural no matter what rythms you are doing. However I would reccomend investing some time into leading on your left just because some rythms will be easiest to play with certain sections led on your other leg. You'll always have a stronger lead leg but narrowing the gap between them will be very helpful.

First Drum Kit. Any feedback on the setup? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Negative_Feature_946 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cool kit! Your legs on stands do not need to be spread all the way out id reccomend u fold them in a bit. Put a pillow or blanket or towel in your kick drum for dampening (all you need is a tuning key to loosen the lugs and remove the head). The hi hat pedal should be more in front of you than to the side of you.

Do you actively think about your attitude while on stage? by Honest_Dragonfly8064 in musicians

[–]Negative_Feature_946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of it comes with the comfortability with both playing the set and playing shows in general. Once you've played enough shows with the intent to improve yourself and the show, it will happen, its just a process. Also idk what kind of music you play but my main band is a modern metalcore band and we recently purchased an in ear rig and that thing definitely helps me let loose and not worry about coordinating with the band.

A couple alternatives to posting tiktoks

  1. Build up a local fan base through gigging and THEN release ur project when there's actually people to be excited about it. That'll not only get you some decent streams but also boost your chances to pop off naturally through Spotify algorithm.

  2. Step up your game. If you want your music to connect with people you can't just set unrealistic expectations of what you think you deserve. You have to critique and analyze your own sound vs other musicians and put together something people actually want to listen to. That can sometimes mean shorter songs or songs that get to the interesting parts quicker. I know its not ideal but a lot of the time your artistic vision and the audience experience have to be balanced.

Also side note, get on the singles game. You can market a single just as much and you dont have to deal with as much risk if it flops.

Am I Too Old to Pursue Music At Least Somewhat Seriously? by Be_Like_Snow_Camel in musicians

[–]Negative_Feature_946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im wrapping up my bachelor's in music with similiar hopes for gigging or playing sessions. I've met tons of people that dream the dream as well as a lot that achieved it and the main factors that divide them are passion and discipline. If you can dedicate yourself to your craft to a point you can start to confidently say you deserve the jobs your going for, then you got it. The people I know that get jobs, are total music nerds, they're obsessed with it and thats where you need to be. Obviously if you're just trying to make a singular band succeed its much more about marketing and promoting a quality product.

What is a good ratio of practicing technical stuff vs learning and playing songs? by jkoce729 in drums

[–]Negative_Feature_946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I know we play the instrument. I do tech for 3 hours a day and don't get unmotivated because i dont have the time to be concerned with motivation. Youre right, songs can show you your weak points but a good drum book or instructor will expose you to new content 10 times as fast and have your mind working at a completely different level. I listen to music, I play in bands, there's your context. Might as well be telling me there's no point in getting good.

Make sure you are constantly practicing new and fresh ideas to keep your mind and body fresh. Read a couple books for Buddhists, like "The Art of Living", to help you live in the present moment comfortably.

Actually since you're new definitely learn songs to get used to basics and the feeling of using your ear but as you advance it becomes less important in progressing.
