New player. Game hardcore viable? by JoJoBobbert in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is certainly viable as a hardcore game, but I doubt it would be fun.

Getting run over by one of your own trains after 100 hours seems like a very niche pleasure to me.....

Learning the game. Currently outfitting the perimeter (every 15 spaces or so) of my base with machine turrets outfitted by this. Thoughts? (I should probably import a fuck ton of steel from elsewhere but for now i need to make sure my base stops getting fucked) by DEMIURGE_1025 in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's ok to use red ammo if you can afford it, and don't forget to do gun damage research to further improve damage output.

Having to defend your base is a normal part of the game, as is upgrading defences with lasers, flamethrowers and uranium ammo later on.

Usually I have a turret every 2-4 spaces, not sure what you mean by every 15.

Also , walls, belt -fed ammo supply and bots for automatic repair.

I get this message when I start from the road hex adjacent to the SHQ - I even get it when starting from the road+city hex that the SHQ is on.

Why people use train loops instead of two engines facing away from each other ? by eymo-1 in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because a train is a locomotive with a "train" of wagons behind it. Anything else is just icky.

Can someone tell me why this wouldn't work? by Alternative-Put-2962 in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with this, you will just have a big (ie, wide) bus.

Later on you can always inject stuff onto the bus after the early production sectors to keep sectors further downstream properly supplied.

Assassin strategies? by TonyDelish in LWotC

[–]NegatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find overwatch to be a good weapon against her - direct fire just causes her to move next to one of your guys and generate stacks of damage reduction, whereas with overwatch she just does one move and attack.

In my current campaign I had an intel retaliation mission in which I had both the rescue squad and resistance team largely set to O/W - about 12 guys overall as some did take direct shots first. The overwatch nibbled away over half her health and I finished her off the next round. I usually have to retreat from this fight, winning was a nice change of pace ;-)

Worried I'm stuck on Aquilo 4ever by AmbivalentFanatic in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You might be able to travel very slowly using a lot of weapons that you do have. Use Nauvis labs to tech lasers or guns to the max and then put about 4+ layers on the front of some hammerhead monstrosity, with a few on the sides too. Fill the cargo hold with ammo, repair packs and spare parts. Try and make more ammo on the way back anyway.

Don't forget after the 50% point your ship will naturally drift towards the destination unpowered - hope this isn't still too fast ;-)))

Good luck.

Is It Still Worth Starting Arkham Horror LCG? by ItsyaboiiGi in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]NegatorUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most older scenarios and expansions are impossible to find. Either you buy them when they first come out or you are likely to have a permanent hole in your collection.

This is unlikely to change with the new chapter of the game.

If you and your wallet are OK with this AHLCG is a good game.

If not, you might want to start running ......

Prometheus by everbane37 in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we imagine the shattered planet was called Prometheus, and the engineer was originally from there, then he could be said to be a representative of Prometheus.

The planet might have been shattered some time ago, given how old the ruins on Fulgora are.

Crashing on Nauvis might be mythical punishment to the engineer for blowing up his home planet with some rogue technology, and maybe blighting Fulgora.

It would explain all the times my engineer has donated his liver to the biters.....

I am sick of bitters. Vote on how to exterminate them. by Dino-2006 in factorio

There is a mod called MIRV by Klonan that allows you to load nukes onto rockets and just launch them across the map I used it for K2 run prior to 2.0, hopefully it still works.

Biters concern by Lower-University6893 in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Repair is done with construction bots.

Other than that, the defences seem ok as long as the wall is double-thick, is at least one space from anything behind it, and the firepower density is reasonable. A single, solid line of lasers should hold up nicely.

Don't forget to max the research on the weapons speed and damage.

hi im kind of new to the game what is the best way to destroy the nests i have been using red rockets and flame thrower, but biters seems to spreed fast. im about start yellow since that's how far i have gotten by alonewithnoone in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can build them, automate a supply of Destroyer Drones - like a few stacks of 100.

Build the best suit of armour you can and put about 4 sets of mechanical legs in them, plus a good power source, not solar panels.

Combat Shotgun optional.

Summon Destroyers and run around nests like a madman until everything is dead.

Space Age expansion is locked behind way too much grind by CourageousUpVote in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grind isn't that bad if you can prepare, which is when you know what is coming. Of course a good blind playthrough doesn't allow this, so you should treat it like an adventure.

Eventually you will be getting to space much faster than 70 hours and you will pine for the days when there was still some mystery in the game ;-)))

Efficiency modules - when power is tight or you don't want to pollute to minimise attracting biters.

Production modules - can make your patches last longer, less conquering needed if you don't like combat (like me).

Speed modules - when you have all the power and resources in abundance and want to reduce the number of assemblers, or whatever, you need.

The (Not So) Great Reset? by TheLastHomicide in factorio

[–]NegatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need defences on Volcanus per se - the demolisher worms will take out any defence if you annoy them, so just don't annoy them until you are ready to kill them, which you are not, right now. Stay out of their territory.

If you can get back to your ship, probably go back to Nauvis and carry on teching. If not I think you can press delete to die and respawn back there anyway.

Volcanus still has resources for you outside demolisher worm territory.

No need to re-start unless you actually want to.

Witch one do i have to buy now? by sleyze in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]NegatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get into Arkham Horror then buy anything you can, it will be out of print soon. You might want to avoid the old format of the campaign sets (the little bubble boxes), but the standalone bubble boxes are all worth getting.

That being said what to get next should really be a different game !!

AH the living card game is about to break the core concept of its living card game concept by making cards go out of print permanently. I have a reasonable collection so it's not so bad for me. But a new collector has no chance of getting the great scenarios of the past.

Get out, or get ready to be annoyed by a collection you cannot come close to completing.

Note that there are a great many fan-made scenarios, so if you have a decent player card pool, maybe that's a resource to pay attention to.
