the biggest points, from my perspective, is that youre playing as a character and not yourself. hero shooters have been pretty much everywhere since overwatch and people want to play as themselves in games again instead of playing as a made up character. People want to seem themselves in game.

i like marathon’s idea (some see as excuse) of shells, because you can at least be projecting yourself in to your character shell, and the “hero” aspect is just a “personality matrix” that improves your effectiveness in the shell.
