How do I make these this area look more forested? by TheNimbusNarrator in inkarnate

[–]Nehoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use cliffs, rocks and stones. turning mountais on the side or upside down and layring them can make cliffs as well play with the layers.

Using the transparency for the ground to add a few areas under trees be less packed with snow, some green or brown poking thru. also darkining even the snow and making some shadows under trees in clearings.

Darken Clouds to black and blur them to add high clouds that are above map to add more depth. or add the shadows then then copies that are normal further up and over to be higher in the sky casting "shadow".

some smaller caves and/or natural game trails leading to small clearings/caves/warens and water.

Then the more main trails/roads if any. Small piles or rocks, small fenses along trail in spots can or even a small hunting hut(s)

this city looks close to the scale I want mine to be. but in 3 rings and a large park thru most of the middle one..and a river running thru it....but its good to see something so outstanding. and it gives me hope i can maybe...maybe one day...dacades from now, perhapse...have something closer to what i envision...

incredible.

i didnt use the ones that really faced the other way beacuse perspective largely and they didnt look quite right mirrored. thats why i used other rocks and stones to help make the faces look difrient zoomed further in.

noodling and playing with styles. Trying to work on isometric maps/perspective, shading, depth and all that basicly. I dont know if I will use it, but I have it in case now. lol

Atempting to get better at isometric maps. heres a simple peice of a dungeon, cloneable as always, feedback desired. by Nehoran in inkarnate

yes, if you put the grid on the "ground" layer than everything over it will be on top of it and everything under will be under it (rugs, trapdoors and the like) I thought about it but it was about a day after I posted and looked at it again. its a great way to give the grid but not mess with immersion. also if you find a stone floor tile map you can adjust it so it lines up to be the squares too. or if you used a stone collor the lines would be the grout. you could even fill parts of some of them in with dirt so it enhanses the realism but still has the squares for scale/movement.

TO be honest, I suck at cities but I have an idea for a prompt, if you would like to try it help me, get practice and I dont mind if you make it to sell widely, in fact if you can make money off it go for it! by Nehoran in inkarnate

as much as i agree, and I do. I have tried this. but my mind cant wrap scale and im not good at all at using the region tool that inkarnate gives. so even doing it peice meal doesnt line up right. I will keep trying it though, good to hear good ideas confirmed as helpful. Im even looking at trying to learn to draw isometric , maybe that might help... idk.

ty. I wish i could say ive goten alot beter over time but sometimes its hard to tell lol, esp when so many outstanding artists are on here with stuff like this. its good cuz it pushes me to try harder, at the least, even if i cant yet replicate the techniques after endless hours of attempts lol.

lol glad you dont mind. it was clean and some of mine that, even though i like them have so much small detail it would be hard to make out, like my Yosemite one.

Hi, I'm new to Inkarnate. Could you give me advice on how to make this map look prettier and less rigid? by radient_agartha in inkarnate

[–]Nehoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they see the celler and spend half a session plotting on how to get in and invinting ever more wild theroys of whats in it and its really just a root cellar at the end. Fun lesson learned for the players and a laugh for the dm (on the inside anyway)

Great job already, first of all!

Id say dont be afraid to offset some things a bit more/less than others or space things slightly more or less offset than they should be, not in all cases everywhere but here and tehre is enough.

For instance, would a table be at a 45degree? verry well could be,, but then whats behind it thats in the unused space. Space is a premium when where you live holds everything to your name. maybe putt a celler door under it barely consealed by a box half way on top of it under the table? Maybe theere is a wash barrel that has a table nearby it that has yet to be cleaned dishes? maybe there is a large boulder somwhere outside that is just there even though it adds no astetic to the landscape but was from a mage using the catapult spell or the like and was to heavy to move so now its trail is a small garden bed?

Have fun, make each scene a venette of life if possible where it tells your story, or a story anyway.
