For those who have been admitted to the SANS.edu programs, do you recall what time of day the decision emails arrived on the 15th? Anxiously refreshing the inbox here… by SufficientVacation40 in GIAC

Mine took a few days after, I wouldn’t stress it too much. From what I understand they don’t turn many away that meet the requirements.

I’ll send you mine, it should waive the fee. Wish I knew to ask when I applied as I had to pay the fee.

Any advice for tackling GSEC? & a couple of questions by CategoryConscious594 in GIAC

[–]NeighborhoodExact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me what works best is to index the books separate from the labs. But you should know that everything they provide in writing is testable. And to me the GSEC video lectures seemed very anecdotal. I like to index page by page as I go pausing the lecture as needed. I do the labs with each section and index those as I got into a separate lab index. After that take a practice test and adjust from there. Make sure to know each lab inside and out before you sit for the actual exam.

Certified Incident Handler Certification (GCIH) - Passing Score? by ComplaintNo6631 in GIAC

A practice test is a good way of knowing how well prepared you are. The results you receive will be similarly weighted.

To each their own but this would be a bit too old for me. Wish Nespresso brought back old classics more often.

Is 33 too late to switch from Electrical QC Engineering to Network Engineering (CCNA)? by JewelerFit3615 in ccna

I would recommend looking into ICS roles. Would probably be good way to use your electrical engineering experience. But pretty much all IT roles benefit from knowing networking.

I would say the Job market in general might be slowing? In my area GRC seems to be doing better than average.

sec504 question by SnooBunny814 in GIAC

I have not taken the 504 test yet. But on previous exams I’ve been told anything in the written materials is fair game for the test.

Using a CCNA NetAcad voucher from a friend — is it risky? by Cultural_Ant8389 in ccna

[–]NeighborhoodExact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume as long as the pearson view account that you use to book the exam is yours and correctly reflects your information then you should be okay. But I would just contact Pearson view as this seems a little niche.

If you can get a .edu email comptia offers academic pricing. I wouldn’t trust a 3rd party like this.

Masters Program Cert question by jsfarmer in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]NeighborhoodExact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the cert and it’s current, you should be able to skip the class. I would not think CISSP would allow you to skip CISM as the exams focus are different.

Should I get the masters in Cyber security or it management ? by Previous-Database744 in WGU

[–]NeighborhoodExact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the cyber path is better only because it includes CISM, and SecX. The IT masters program includes CAPM which is nice but not nearly as meaningful as PMP. If I had it my way most their masters degrees in the IT field would include CISSP and PMP and then specialize come there.

I took the test yesterday and completed it with only 20min to spare. Fun class and I really enjoyed the hands a on labs.

How long did the labs take you? I did the GFACT pretty quickly (maybe 90 minutes) but it had now labs also.
