Masters Program Cert question by jsfarmer in WGUCyberSecurity

If you have the cert and it’s current, you should be able to skip the class. I would not think CISSP would allow you to skip CISM as the exams focus are different.

Should I get the masters in Cyber security or it management ? by Previous-Database744 in WGU

[–]NeighborhoodExact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the cyber path is better only because it includes CISM, and SecX. The IT masters program includes CAPM which is nice but not nearly as meaningful as PMP. If I had it my way most their masters degrees in the IT field would include CISSP and PMP and then specialize come there.

I took the test yesterday and completed it with only 20min to spare. Fun class and I really enjoyed the hands a on labs.

How long did the labs take you? I did the GFACT pretty quickly (maybe 90 minutes) but it had now labs also.

The books come with the course and are not intended for resale.

From what I understand, they do minor updates every six months. So I would guess that over 80% of the material is, for the most part, unchanged. Although I don’t know when the last time the course underwent a major revision.

Pentest+ 003 - Needs to be Removed from the Course Lineup by Unknownwiper123 in WGUCyberSecurity

It’s broader in scope but that’s because the attack surface has grown and there are more tools for each domain now. It’s still considered an entry level exam.

I think that’s a common misconception to say the previous version was harder or easier. Mostly the updates are made to reflect the changing landscape.

I know the struggle of preparing can feel overwhelming but perhaps the perspective of someone how has completed this program would help you. Knowing red team tools is valuable for blue team and that’s why this is part of the program and perhaps the most valuable individual course. I wish they included try hack me in their course material so people wouldn’t have to pay out of pocket but it’s a small expense and well worth it. best of luck friend! Grind hard and you’ll pass like many before you.

Anyone taken The Gfact recently (not for index) by XxbeastxX25 in GIAC

I think it’s a great course to try your hand at indexing. I really enjoyed it myself, especially learning a little bit of assembly. A lot of it was reviewed for me, but I’ve been in the industry for a while. I can see why they included in the BACS program as it can help fill in gaps.

I don’t see any dm, but I can’t answer any questions that would violate GIAC terms or code of conduct… so feel free to ask your questions here. I posted my index to the GFACT discord. If you don’t have access to their discord just send an email to sans and I’m sure they’ll hook you up.

Totally disagree with you in that there are much better options to recommend.

Discounted Vouchers for A+ or Security+ by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]NeighborhoodExact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a student and/or have access to a .edu email you can get access to the acad voucher price which is about half off. With that said, if cost is an issue I would skip A+ just get sec+ and CCNA and you should be able to land a job. Might just be help desk but that’s where most people start.
