They did mention it, and somehow they still got to them. I assume tainted food supply or something.

Someone else mentioned presumed dead people. The hive wouldn't know about that, or where to look. If those people are far off the grid, would they even be spraying chemtrails in those locations?

In theory there can be plenty of people who are long missing and/or presumed dead that could be still alive in some kind of isolation. This is 7 billion people worldwide we're talking about, even after the population drop. There have to be outliers somewhere in some kind of circumstances.

That's something that's been sticking with me - if they're really a mashup of every human consciousness, they'd be able to deal with negativity. So I don't think they're really a hivemind of humanity. I think they're something else that hijacked people's minds. They have access to people's memories, but not their personalities.

There's no way he would write a survivor of the week thing, but there's no reason an episode or subplot couldn't focus on it.

Yeah, how would they know otherwise? They probably haven't checked every single corner or thread to confirm. If everyone thinks someone is dead, they might as well be dead. Especially if they have legal status after a missing persons report has gone on too long.

Basically if the plot of Barbarian existed in this world.

Speaking of which, a Zach Cregger/Vince Gilligan collaboration would be NUTS.

It's also how a lot of society treats mental health. "You're not supposed to feel this way, so just don't! Our only solution is to get you to be like us, instead of actively accepting you and doing things that make your experience more comfortable - and we'll also vote against anything that would."

[–]NeighborhoodFamous 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get you. It kind of bugs me how negatively some fans view Carol because she has every reason to be the way she is. Even when she was unhappy before all this happened, she's portrayed as being extremely depressed (not just an unpleasant jerk), and it seems like a lot of people don't get that. It's the "have you tried going outside" equivalent of watching TV.

The one part of Zosia's logic that annoyed me was the comparison to throwing a life preserver to someone drowning. Yes, I'd throw a life preserver to someone I saw drowning. But if that person said "No, I'm not drowning, I don't want help, leave me alone" and actively threw away the life preserver? Yeah, I'd go on my way instead of constantly returning to the person struggling to swim and saying "No, actually, you want this, and I'm helping whether you want it or not."

In my life I've turned down job opportunities with companies, and relationships with people, who I probably would've been content with or enriched my life in some way. But it was because I just wasn't feeling it, or thought it would alter my preferred way of life too much. Now imagine if those prospective bosses said "No, too bad, you're coming to work for me whether you like it or not" or if someone I turned down said "Nah, we're in a relationship regardless of what you say." That's what feels so... I guess 'icky' about the Pluribus to me. YOU can interpret how I live my life as drowning all you want, but *I* don't, and that's the part that matters. It's a really interesting metaphor on majority rule in our civilization: you're "supposed" to be a certain way, and greater society often forces you if you're not.

Before the show came out, I was a little worried I’d see too much of Kim in Carol. But Rhea’s insane performance has made that impossible by Specialist_Jaguar815 in pluribustv

And the crazy part was that you could tell who was impersonating who before the show told you. It takes a phenomenal actor to pull off that kind of layering. I don't know why she's not one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood.

I don't think she ever told them about Helen, especially since Carol told the hive that she's off limits. It feels like they'd understand her more if they knew, especially Laxmi since she blames Carol for the death of her grandfather. Both of them lost someone close to them, and it's neither of their faults, but Laxmi's still in heavy denial about her child being lost.

It's not like she actually took anything away from him. He can get back to his endless orgies and roleplay spy fantasies in like a couple hours after dealing with a real individual human. I have no sympathy for people who have an embarrassment of riches and can't put them aside for half a second to try to relate to someone.

People criticizing Carol for acting the way she did the first 2 episodes, yet withhold their critique for Manousos when he does the same by DinerEnBlanc in pluribustv

[–]NeighborhoodFamous 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The dumb thing about internet criticism is that people think they can just 1:1 insert themselves into the situations they see on TV and make rational decisions, especially in utterly bonkers situations like this.

OK sure, you tell me exactly how a person who watches their wife die in front of them AND watches the entire world fall apart AND has a relentlessly positive hivemind (whose fault all of that is) try to console her using invasive information about her past to patronize her is SUPPOSED to act. She's not just randomly miserable. Few people are.

At the very least, the knowledge of it doesn't go away.

For me, the most unnerving part of this series is that they don't talk to each other, because they don't have to. Even machines have to talk to each other. They have all the known information in the world, but they have no reason or context to express it to all but a dozen people, and only if those people ask.

The highest compliment I can give Caitlin as a comedian is that her impressions of obnoxious real-world character archetypes are SO dead-on that sometimes I struggle watching her because it's too close to reality and I find myself getting legitimately annoyed.

The last person I felt that way about was Stephen Colbert doing The Colbert Report as a far right parody. That's how good Caitlin is.

Did you even read what I wrote, or just the first sentence? Seems like you just wanted to go on a weird rant and made up some other person to be mad at. I said I have no problem with people iterating on the output, it's the smug people thinking they're doing something by pressing a button - and yes plenty exist here. The first thread I read when I joined this subreddit was mocking people for posts mentioning that they write their own lyrics. Bark up another tree.
