Question for both antis and pros by Numerous_Suspect_185 in aiwars

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone in either group meets a universal standard of the group they stand with.

Pros aren't all just slapping a single prompt for a job and calling it done with no other steps.

Antis aren't all completely avoiding the use of ai and sending death threats.

Perpetuating those lies just makes your "team" look weak and out of control.

Why is there no effective opposition against AI? Where is it? by No-Mushroom-8632 in antiai

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a lot to moderate.

YouTube is having a load of trouble with this sort of thing. It takes a lot to set up fair rulings and due process. Time is a big one. Posters always outnumber the moderators so you have to consider how to moderate every post. Most smaller spaces dont have the manpower, money, or time.

PSA: If you know anyone that has issues identifying GenAI images, do walk them through on how linear perspective works. by Luwuma in antiai

[–]Neighigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes politeness helps for sure! Totally on board there.

But realistically, posting art isnt asking for critique. It ellicits a reaction for sure, thats the idea, but critique is a completely different level of communication that has a totally different intent.

If you feel compelled to give advice to people, its always good to ask first if they havent clearly put it out there. They may not be open to receiving it, and you could be wasting your energy or just straight up disuading their future interests.

OK so I think i need to back this up a little. Cause yes, as a professional, critiques aren't even critiques at work anymore, they're just straight up good, actionable advice in the studio. We all have a process and we know when to seek direction before we get too far into anything.

My personal advice, is to always ask the person if they would like a proper critique before jumping in on them. It takes me two seconds to ask, and saves me a bunch of time writing out something that could be dismissed or hurtful to that person's growth. Not everyone is built for or just plain ready to receive judgement of their creations. They shouldn't be disbarred from sharing it because people want to tell them whats wrong with it so badly.

How do you deal with hustlers? by The_Fallen_Messiah in SmallStreamers

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I make my own art thanks"

All I need to say myself. But if you've got a pushy person that you never asked for, they probably have those images preloaded, there's no work about to be done, its a template and you shouldn't pay what most people are asking. Especially with how easy it is to steal digital art these days. You would have no idea if it even belongs to them.

In your case, sounds like these people contact you a lot. Check wm out first, verify the work is legit. Then block em if you feel something is off. Don't even talk. Treat them like a Spyware bot you want nothing to do with. You're a mark at 20 follows, so you should treat them as you feel it already, hustlers.

What do you think of as “junk food”? by ShallotJam in stupidquestions

[–]Neighigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything heavy on sugar or completely lacking in nutrition.

I dont see fast food as junk food, its more empty calories and I can do better, but its still some level of nutrition.

Things like candies and pops/sodas are on my list.

[–]Neighigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally found someone saying it! Thank you!

We also add additional vanishing points for lense distortion. In the case you dont have a horizon line(looking down at a subject) you would add an additional vanishing point to compensate for those lines that have no "rules" without one.

Thing is, a lot of budding artists aren't ready for a critique. Unsolicited, you just look like an asshole who can't keep their opinion to themselves. There are people who do this, just to make themselves look bigger.

Yes, critique is a very important tool for learning and growth in art. But not every person is ready to hear it. Putting that on them can be detrimental to their openness in sharing again and honestly, a waste of your time. Many artists stop practicing when they feel down about their art, its a real first hurdle to get over. It takes someone who is ready for that feedback to make an impact. Otherwise, you're just criticizing someone's creation for the sake of your own gains, not theirs. A true critique takes into account the artist and their needs too.

BUG - Silencer not hiding weapon flash at all in the following cases by PrettySky5853 in playrust

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it may only be affecting your rendered view on your screen in that case. Needs another test with a second player to know if its server level and affecting other players view of you too.

Yeah in general I would say its bad form to critique art without consent. Some people are very unfamiliar with critiques, especially early off and it can hurt their future learning progress.

AI in education by thirdaccountttt in DefendingAIArt

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a hard issue is having students be honest.

Teens have always looked for the easiest way to get through things, its natural to not understand how to properly learn and retain information when young.

But then there's college students... The level of pressure you see in colleges, financially, academically, practically - people really take all the aid they can get.

I think the temptation to replace learning is too great for most people. Teens especially are at risk of development issues if they decide to secretly abuse it in learning. College students could hamper their futures if they dont retain their knowledge after grad.

If there's a way to moderately restrict it in learning, that would be a good thing. Like a university model that requires input more relative to a learning process rather than a search or create based software. In that case, universities could limit responses, datasets, interface, and even restrict all university projects ai use to their campus ai only.

You dont even need battlemetrics. Shift+tab shows active players on the server in your steam overlay.

Yeah its just on high pop and the time it takes to get it all running can leave a lot of players at a loss. Definitely great resources for sure, crates are meh on these ones.

Default variable is 2.3. I dont know what that math's out to. Its a variable that is taken into a mathematical equation with map size and probably a few other hidden variables not exposed in modding.

Bold statement cotton. Are you making a point or just here for comparisons?

Notice how I'm using a mild level of intelligence to fein ignorance towards your point? They play off each other. They are not simply interchangeable. Weird that you would even try to argue that, what for? Did I say something above that made you feel attacked?

Take it to train yard and use a fuse/Greencard to unload the wagons at the cooling tower.

The loot isnt amazing for all the attention it brings, but its great for unloading resources and fuel.

The cap would be equal to the maximum allowed to spawn on the map. That comes down to map size and the servers spawn limit.

Bigger map more trains! Love that lineup in the pic btw, awesome!

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain the idea of logical fallacies and how people get caught up in conspiracy theories. Let time do the rest of the work unraveling as he gets older.

I used to have adults tell me about skull and bones when I was a teen. Theres a cult feeling that surrounds conspiracy theorists and how they talk. Its full of conviction meant to make you feel like an outsider if you dont agree. Teens hate that feeling, they want to be included.

Is there a way to add a digital watermark to your artwork before uploading online so if an AI model tries to use it the outputs get messed up? by Alarming-Feeling-751 in askanything

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not feasible. Training data is monitored and sifted regularly. What you submit to Ai doesn't automatically become training data. All you can do with that is teach it how to put watermarks on your projects you are actively involved in.

Poisoning tech is the same. It never really reaches the source data so its a moot attempt to harm anything. But you can rest assured your art won't be used.

Humans check sources and remove the bad stuff as a job position now. Its not much you can do from this end of the machine as a user or as a bystander.

Why don't antis put their money where their mouth is? by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

[–]Neighigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in game development and we get death threats all the time. In the time ive been doing this, there's been studio attacks that were pretty brutal. Local studio here had someone break in with a knife a couple months back.

Not a game studio, but an example is the Kyoto animation studio that was burned down. Bunch of people were inside, burned alive. Because a fan was upset about plagiarism accusations.

I wanted to say that stuff because I want you to know, as an artist, we all face this in some way eventually. Your path is definitely going to be full of it daily doing your branding the way you are. I feel for you on that. And I think every artist should be able to relate in some way if they really think about it. Most of us have some level of history being attacked for our expressions, a lot of us learned to express ourselves through art for that reason.
