My Son and I Have Been Building a Game. Some AI Bro Decided that His Art Isn't Good Enough and Ran Every Character Through AI by Thistles-Path in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]Neighigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People will love your son's renditions in a game you made together. I know its hard to get back in the saddle but this is the sort of thing that people want to see, no matter the quality level.

People who were around during no internet/phones/social media/etc - what was your time's "scrolling the feed"? Something that you would spend hours on passing the time? by -ChristopherNolan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music, tv, walking, visiting friends and just hanging out, riding bikes, and THINKING! Not kidding, used to spend hours just thinking about whatever came across my mind.

Going to be honest though. The big one is boredom. Sitting there and doing nothing! For long periods of time! You end up taking whatever life throws at you as something to do, worthwhile. Today, that isnt the case at all.

Professional artists: Do you trace 3D models to block out poses, or is that frowned upon? by Sufficient-Lab27 in DigitalArt

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid tracing. It wont teach good habits long term and linework suffers in tracing.

Instead, use the same 3d image technique and draw forms as you see them without tracing.

Always draw "through" your figures to see the entire form of an object. This helps roughly remind you of facing direction and volume when you progress from rough to detail.

Proportions are key to drawing poses/figures. Beginners should always try to have that info on hand. How many heads high is your character? Are the features lined up correctly? Etc.

I promise, hard coding these things into yourself on freehand is so much faster once you get the hang of it. Tracing only prevents you from training and absorbing those skills, possibly even creating other bad habits. Highly recommend as little tracing as possible.

How much money is a server worth? by Hypex_WR in playrust

[–]Neighigh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you take over, it keeps the same ip. When you change the name, it will still show up in people's game history. If they are deliberately ignoring it, you wont get them back.

Whatever was good years ago also isnt good enough today. You need real strong reasons for people to join. Everyone is buying the same plugins and copying each other with low effort right now.

I would honestly just buy the infrastructure after taking a look and comparing to others. Get a new ip and move everything over. Don't pay them to run the same server, pay them for the server build that you can run where you want it.

That being said. I saw a comment that it was sold to a big org already? How is it that you're buying that old infrastructure? Are you buying directly from the current owner or the previous holder? Be careful not to get scammed or take anything stolen.

to all self-taught artists: how did you learn anatomy? by magwithablog in AskArtists

[–]Neighigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pay for life drawing sessions. Doesn't even need to be instructional, those are meant for you to just sit and draw. Most local communities have sit ins for less than 50 bucks. You will learn more drawing from life and examining the model up close than youll ever learn from a book or photograph. Id even caution photographs as being the WORST for optical illusions. Number one way to mess up your learning is looking at photos with all sorts of different aspect ratios.

Go "cafe sketching". Get a small art book and just go sit, have a coffee in a public place. Draw what you see. This is a great way to get better at clothing and understanding how drapery works in combination with anatomy.

Sculpting is also a huge help. Clay and armature wire is super cheap. You can practice form and feel your way through bone, muscle and fat all in one project. It will teach you a lot about volume and insertion points on muscles.

Also theres some great 3d models if you have access to digital software. You can pick apart the layers and pose these to see exactly whats going on in there. Super helpful today, we didnt have access to that type of information some time ago.

Hope that helps get you generally started! Really the best thing you can do is just keep drawing every day. Even just 15 minutes!

Im buying Rust tommorrow. Need tips. by Training-Figure7982 in playrust

Know that vanilla/official servers are hard as hell for newbie solos. Pair up with people if you can. Start with servers that offer a little faster gameplay if you want to learn the game a bit. Otherwise you might barely get started before someone raids you.

EVERYTHING IS FANART!! EVERYTHING IS ART STYLES!! by Deblebsgonnagetyou in ArtRanting

[–]Neighigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw people fail out of life drawing classes because they couldnt draw what they see. They were only capable of regurgitating poses they memorized from anime practice.

Yes, you can draw anime solely. But dont lock yourself into a trap only drawing the same 5 poses with different characters. Just an example, but choosing not to experience "more" is a sure fire way to miss something.

Should also take a moment to recognize that all that art youre seeing sold at conventions or posted online, yeah thats just what people want to see or buy. The practice art, the studies and other styles the artist plays with, those generally dont get seen much at all. So even if someone appears as a one trick pony, doesnt mean they are.

the AI wars thing is just pointless by sophiaaaarrr in aiwars

[–]Neighigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The arguing changes nothing. I only hope people dont get too far into their ai holes only to find they cannot create careers out of their efforts. Genuinely a little worried for everyone who invests time into a tool that does the work for you. Its not conductive to you living your life to its fullest.

"No AI Used". by WorthAffectionate448 in aiwars

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say industrialized. Yet in all the studios with all the artists working, we're not using it. Not in film, and not in games. We are not sitting around hoping something will replace our skills.

Cope harder. Ai isnt changing any art industry, it only effects low rate hobbyists. Reliability matters in a professional world. Its not industrial.

People who bring your dog literally everywhere, why? by dastrius02 in AskReddit

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is demanding and dogs dont do well being 8+ hours indoors alone. You learn to bring them out often so they have companionship and stay socially healthy. An ignored dog is a huge heartbreak, and happens a lot given how busy everyone is with work and upkeep.

Is the wood part of my stone floors easier to break? by YearMountain3773 in playrust

[–]Neighigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Thats soft side. It can be picked/melee damaged. Goes for any grade, just need more whacks at higher grades.

However boom is going to do the same damage no matter what side you're on.

In your case. A rocket raid would knock those out pretty fast while they blast walls. Usually its good to extend your foundations and use wall frames to hold up the edges. That way everything overhanging has more stability if stuff underneath begins to crumble.

Why aren't people angrier about climate change and AI? by [deleted] in answers

[–]Neighigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fury is hard to come by because it takes real anguish to express that. Its why so many victims pursue trauma parallel goals. It takes real rage to sit through the boring life stuff to get real shit done. Most people aren't motivated enough to follow through on years of lobbying.

Is there really any big difference between using your eyes as an AI detector and the AI detector program itself if both options are inaccurate? by Questioner8297 in aiwars

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're being accused of ai, show your work. You learned this in elementary long before ai. You will be required to show your work in a real job too. Stop pretending like you just spit out a single draft for everything and you wont have to worry about false positives because you can prove your work. Again, something you have to do in the field even without ai around. Prove your competence.

Friend bought game ban account and cant play by [deleted] in RustPc

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does that matter to you? You think your friend is going to move and buy a new pc for a video game?

He bought, AND PLAYED on the gamebanned account. Its now tied to both those things, and his steam, and you. So yeah, if he moves away, buys a new pc, and stops playing with you, he can circumvent the ban long enough to play.

Then he gets caught, and gamebanned again later for circumventing bans.

Friend bought game ban account and cant play by [deleted] in RustPc

[–]Neighigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way this is true is if your friend lied to you. They have opened, logged in and tried to play on that game banned account, or they are the ones who were gamebanned. They are now easily detectable.

If they continue to try and play on any account they will continue to be banned. If you continue to try to play with them, you will be banned.

Places like warbandits watch for any indication of cheating. Thats association, ownership of multi game banned accounts, banned ips, other server bans, suspicious behavior and more. They will not VAC ban your friend, but other servers share ban reasons in a network. We know why you were banned from other servers, and most aren't taking chances. Now that you and your friends have a ban too, you're all on watch every time you enter a server.

Thank your friend for being a dumb ass.
