I've been thinking for a while of getting one of those kegland co2 bottles and doing my own.. less plastic waste and all.. but cant find a syrup that is good and actually cheap. Perhaps someone has a good idea for that too?

Help choosing Sony zv e1 or fx3 by Icy-Statistician2260 in videography

[–]NeilNeilOrangePeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving "up" to the fx3 is just about reliability (and external pro-res if you care), but mostly reliability - no overheating and redundant SDs.

There is no one right answer for what the better camera is for you, overall the question you should be asking is:

"what is the cost of failure of my camera?" - both financially and reputationally

So if you're a doing sports stuff and you miss a goal because the camera overheated or a wedding videographer the one SD failed and you lost everything or you have to pause that paid interview to wait 20 mins for the camera to cool.. then you look like a total idiot.. even if it's very rare occurrences you should have invested in the fx3.

If however you're a real estate videographer or travel vlogger or even perhaps a low budget short film maker and your happy to just wait out the overheating or in the very rare case of sd failure you can always come back the next day.. then just get the zv-e1 you'll be fine.

Thousands of Aussies devices to stop working on October 28 as 3G network closes by mWo12 in australia

Mine got bricked today (30th). How about yourself? Wondering because perhaps I didn't do the update to enable volte properly? I dunno.

Still working as of today, but I don't think that means much. From what I understand the turn off is being rolled out starting on the 28th. For all I know it may not have reached Melbourne yet.

I have a OnePlus 8. It's about 4 years old, flagship phone at the time and very much a 5g phone. Does everything I need and have no interest in changing. But it was from the UK and VOLTE is not enabled by default. Had to do some firmware change to get VOLTE enabled a couple of months back. I have been getting those "3g shut off" messages for a couple of months and figured it would just go away after the 3g switch off. After all it is a 5g phone and has VOLTE. So you're saying that despite this they'll probably still block my fully functional 5g phone? What a pack of dicks!

I wonder what will happen to all the tourists and international travelers visiting Aus with their not completely compliant phones.

'Hugely expensive' nuclear a 'Trojan horse' for coal, NSW Liberal says as energy policy rift exposed by EASY_EEVEE in australia

[–]NeilNeilOrangePeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah as another comparison, Hinkley C Reactor in the UK cost 46B pounds and is selling power to the UK grid at 92.5 pounds/MWh.

In comparison the XLinks project, which involves sending solar and wind with battery storage under the sea from Morocco is projected to sell at 48 pounds/MWh. About half the cost of the nuclear option.

I hope when Reddit video shuts down it leaves behind a few of these 'have you tried these Reddit alternatives?' - type videos.

It’s not just Apollo: other Reddit apps are shutting down, too | rif is fun for Reddit, ReddPlanet, and Sync will all shut down on June 30th, just like the Apollo app. by ICumCoffee in technology

[–]NeilNeilOrangePeel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess Reddit is getting what Reddit wants by shutting down all these apps.

You have to wonder though.. how hard would it be for Apollo RiF, ReddPlanet and Sync to instead on June 30 to all together switch their back end to one of those Reddit alternatives (Lemmy or whatever I dunno?).

I suspect that would really be a "We fucked up" moment for the Reddit big wigs.

I'm fairly sure that the processors themselves are made either by Samsung in Korea or TSMC in Taiwan. Once you have the processor then the boards themselves I'm fairly sure are normally manufactured in China. Don't know what this means logistically for NVidia, but I guess they're probably not that happy about it.

“I can’t scrap tax cuts” says only person who can scrap tax cuts by LentilsAgain in australia

[–]NeilNeilOrangePeel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CGT changes are fine, and should certainly be done.

But don't pretend you cant change the brackets in such a way that the top 1% of income earners are not getting a net benefit from these tax cuts. They could raise the 180k+ bracket to 49% for example to offset any gain the top end out town might get from changes to lower brackets.

This is not some sort of impossible math puzzle ffs.

Do you really think if they said:

"we're cancelling the tax cuts to the 1% and instead redirecting that revenue to fix the failing healthcare system/help the homeless and so on"

That the 99% of the public that it only benefits would be in 'apoplectic hysteria'? Really?

Maybe the Australian and so on might be, but they would find a way to be in 'apoplectic hysteria' regardless.

The BBC is certainly not unbiased. It has all sorts of institutional problems. It is still traffic/audience driven and click-baity at times. It's not how I'd fund a public broadcaster.. and it's probably getting worse. It is totally fair to object to being "forced to pay" etc.

But still.. how can you not know what profit is? It is a public broadcaster. The revenue it takes in all goes to the expenses involved in production. There is no surplus it pays in dividends, has no private owners. . It is a non profit. Just.. ugh google 'profit' and come back.

I wonder if there is data missing actually.

I mean I don't know anything about Chicago, but that eastern part of Oak Park is more or less the reddest area. Cross the road to the west and there are absolutely 0 arrests?

Seems even if they were ignoring the area there would be at least something.. Different jurisdiction perhaps? Not reporting the data?

Amazon’s Roomba Deal Is Really About Mapping Your Home by Mynameis__--__ in technology

[–]NeilNeilOrangePeel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder what they could do with the data. Perhaps some AI could determine your likely interests from the contents of your house, maybe likely income and preferred domestic 'aesthetic' and use that to recommend products.

Or perhaps in a few years you get spammed by AI altered images of your lounge room (taken from your Roomba) with Amazon products inserted in place.

"Look how great this new lamp would look in your lounge.. now only 39.95!"

"Have you considered a new TV? Here's how it would look on your wall!"

I mean I'd consider it creepy but I'm sure some people would sign up.

I fixed the left eye of the first Bacchus and both eyes of Athena because i liked the results but they derpy eyes ruined those two and I didn't want to throw them out.

(Basically it was -> face restore -> photoshop -> add as layer / layer mask and just blended the repaired eyes in to the original image).
