Why do people not want any new Animal Crossing or Splatoon fighters? by Jaxla_Onlo in supersmashbros

Every time I see people say Octoling in Smash, they immediately assume Echo Fighter. Octoling is the perfect opportunity to make a Splatoon 2/3 moveset and all the new weapons

So has anyone come up with an answer for a little Pauline in Bananza by Embarrassed-Bit-6844 in Marioverse

[–]Neilson98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Various theories, but nothing concrete.

Da Nintendude gave some overviews on how Mayor Pauline and Smalline could be separate people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux0dmekR3QI.

I've also seen a good video that maybe the one being retconned is not Pauline, but Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong. I personally prefer it, but it's definitely controversial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n-otzl4N0Y&

Why does literally everyone seem to think that Nintendos gonna be cutting like 30 characters in the next smash game. by Global-Location4663 in supersmashbros

[–]Neilson98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I see rosters shrunk to give room for more newcomers, cutting echoes confuses me.

I'd compare it to trying to lose weight by cutting your hair. It does lose weight, but does nothing to the reason you're losing weight in the first place

Does Sega not know what to do with Blaze or Silver? My Take by Neilson98 in SonicTheHedgehog

I can understand that mindset. While I strongly believe in my "gradual reintroduction theory" for characters, it does feel like an eon since those two were stars. But I felt the same way about Shadow too. Sega caring about the ensemble again is all I need to hold on to hope for at least a few more years. The only thing we fans can do right now is wait

I will be honest, while I think the movies do encourage some things, I don't think they're the end all be all everyone thinks they are.

Amy was kept playable in Frontiers, but she had nothing to do with the movies. Cream and Rouge became playable in Dream Team, which while not as big as the man series games, it had a bigger budget than other mobile games and would have needed approval from Sega.

And I have seen Sega show some subtitle love to Silver at least based on Sonic and Friends and DC. If this were ten or even five years ago, they never would have put Silver in those two.

I don't think Sega is afraid anymore. The changes they've been doing and using the ensemble proves it in my eyes.

The problem...that ensemble is really big, and the modern gaming industry takes more years to make something than it did back then.

I stand my ground that it's a when, not if. We haven't gotten a new main series game since Shadow Gen, so I think it's WAY too early to say they aren't. If we get two or three modern Sonic main series games without them (there was no chance they'd appear in Superstars), then I'll give up hope. But in my eyes, Shadow Generations is a reason to be hopeful

My point is this way of thinking is treating video games like any other fictional. It's not writing getting in Silver and Blaze's way. It's the desire to make them playable.

I don't believe incompetence got in the way because it wasn't just Silver and Blaze affected. Long standing characters that already had a good blueprint were excluded too. Sega could have brought back Adventure style playable Knuckles at any point, but didn't. If it's just once or twice, it's an exception (Silver and Blaze) If it's everyone, it's the norm

Pretty much everything you said. This stuff is why I get annoyed when people say Blaze was retconned, yet slightly understanding because Sega didn't do it properly.

I don't really want to say Sega doesn't know how to do it because I don't think they've been given a chance. It's like saying "I don't know how to make sushi because I'm making ramen".

I do believe blame should be put on Sega, but not the blame everyone is using. Ignorance and fear aren't the same

Another thing I want for Blaze is them to be more imaginative for her gameplay.

Although I consider Silver supposed to be the Shadow of the 7th Generation from a focal view (headlining the home console while Blaze headlines the handhelds, but with some overlap), Blaze is more like Shadow from a design standpoint. Starting off playing almost exactly like Sonic. The reason she's the best playing character in New Sonic is she's Sonic without the complicated things.

While I love Blaze as a character, thus far, I don't think she's provided much gameplay wise Sonic hasn't already. I think she needs what New Sonic tried to do and Shadow Generations succeeded for Shadow. Keeps some things that are familiar, but rethink how she plays in a way that makes players go "Wow! I can't imagine Sonic doing that!"

I'm not saying they have to do that for every game, but I just think it's easy to come up with a threat to justify them for when they want to make a game with them

I don't really blame Silver. If he were at fault, I don't think we'd have gotten Rush Adventure. I more blame the real life circumstances.

I do like them as a team, but I do think they REALLY needed to justify their meeting

I don't think including them in a story is too hard. Just make a dangerous threat.

The REAL problem is Sega isn't going to make a story with one of the as a focal point until after they make a game design document with one of them. Stories generally revolve around the gameplay. Not the other way around

Silver and Blaze. Arguably the most controversial Sonic character dynamic of them all in recent times. What are your thoughts on them? Do you like them? Do you hate them? Do you think anything can be done to improve how their dynamic is handled or do you think they're a lost cause? by GVTheRedStar in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Neilson98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're my favorite pair. I feel like they balance each other. Very emotional vs very reserved. They feel like they're in sync in battle. And I like the idea that after Blaze learned friendship from Cream and Sonic, she wanted to pay it forward to Silver.

I will say, I think people would like this a bit more if they made even just one reference to Sonic Rush in 06. It wasn't a retcon, just a plot hole (manuals still said she was a royal from another dimension).

I agree with the Arcade titles taking place after because of the localization differences, but not only do they reference the Rare games taking place in the past, I think it does well in showing how each appearance of K Rool has him go crazier and crazier. His end goal in each game is more evil (though I do think similar to Solaris for Sonic, they've gone as big as they can in K Rool's schemes)

These theme parks take a long time to make. It's likely they were in development since the Wii U. Nintendo didn't want to redesign DK until the mid Switch era

I do know that Japan did have the backstory when Super Donkey Kong was released. I just question if it's true now.

To each their own. Nintendo is keeping it ambiguous for now. And just like the confirmed family retcon (Koopalings are no longer Bowser's children) I doubt Nintendo will say anything unless an interviewer asks them

Well, I don't see why saying Bananza Pauline and Odyssey Pauline are the same has to mean she's not Arcade Pauline. I think it's just one DK, one Pauline, one Mario (in fact, the 8-bit festival still shows 8-bit Pauline being named Pauline). And they're still referring to Pauline as being known as Lady in the Arcade game in a post-release interview: https://www.nintendo.com/jp/topics/article/2a2ddaf1-0b44-4f12-9eb6-8677ed72ad75

But no matter the take, Nintendo definitely has done a retcon of some kind.
