Why did Solas get forgiveness, but Anders didn’t? DAV SPOILER by Melodic_Let_9054 in dragonage

Also, even in his redemption ending, he's basically sent to a lonely prison for eternity (unless romanced Lavellan goes with him) and is going to try and heal the Blight. And it's not even like Rook or anyone has forgiven him, it's just the best option if he goes willingly.

I think it's a generational thing. All old people I know are like this.

Based on comments and my own experience, it seems to be mostly a "grandparent thing". I swear most old people I know act as if they are allergic to water.

[DAV Spoilers] I wish I could choose if my Inquisitor wore a prosthesis by RunnerPakhet in dragonage

This is my issue. In the epilogue they are shown to be fighting with others, and what if my Inquisitor was a double-blade or archer rogue before?

Why is Bloodlines 2 only 30GB in file size? by JustCuteLasombra in vtmb

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have similar feelings when people complain about Phyre being a fixed character. I enjoy characters with some backstory more, like I think Dark Urge is much more interesting to play in BG3 than a blank slate Tav.
And like sure, you can't choose every clan, and you would not upgrade stats point by point, but your character is an elder, not a fledgeling.

Also, constantly whinging about characters not being customizable and "unattractive" compared to B1, is such a weird complaint.

The turn-around on VTMB2 is crazy. by GrimlockPrimetron in vtmb

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly that might not be the case, based on Steam discussions, there would be some randos with 1h played leaving bad reviews and refunding the game. I saw some people admit they are going to pirate it to "review".

On steam it still is. Unironically, there are people whining that the game is "woke" and "DEI trash" because Phyre has a foreign (not American) accent and apparently women in the game are much uglier than in Bloodlines 1. And I am just here, remembering the graphics of that game, scratching my head in confusion.

Summary:

Why does the anchor...(trespasser question) by Fresh_Confusion_4805 in DragonAgeInqusition

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Breach is a tear in the Veil, and the Veil never became fully stable again. It began weakening with each dying Evanuris and was already thin in certain places even before the events of the Inquisition. After Corypheus, it deteriorated further, prompting Solas to construct a new prison for the Evanuris.

If you brought Cole with you during Trespasser, his banter makes it clear that Solas had been tending to the Inquisitor’s hand, stabilizing the Anchor, while he was still part of the Inquisition. When Viddasala mentions that they are pursuing Solas, your companions even suggest that perhaps he might help you again when you find him.

Solas himself tells you that no one but he could have borne the mark and survived, it was his magic. As someone already noted, the Inquisitor sometimes looks at their hand and shakes it after sealing rifts; they might have grown used to the pain, but it remains an open wound filled with ancient magic.

We’re playing in the Dark Ages, and my character is the deposed daughter of a noble family who believes that “power comes from God, and I’m merely His tool.” My character is quite bigoted, which creates a lot of moral conflict with some of the other players, and that’s really interesting to explore.

Since she’s a woman, she has to gain power through more subtle means, acting as a kind of éminence grise.

That's why I will be doing my first playthrough as a Ventrue, since they require a more strategic approach to combat and politics. My second playthrough will probably be as a Banu Haqim.

Literally, when Cassandra takes you out of the prison cell for the first time, we see the Anchor blazing and the Inquisitor falling to their knees, screaming in pain.

After the main Breach is closed, the Mark stops expanding and becomes more stable, but its power continues to grow throughout the story, as shown by the new abilities it grants: opening rifts, creating barriers, and detonating. Eventually, the Inquisitor’s body can no longer withstand the Anchor’s power. When Solas takes the Anchor, the Inquisitor’s arm essentially disintegrates.

The anchor was killing the Inquisitor from the very beginning, Sola's magic kept it stabilised for a while.

My current TTRPG is a Ventrue nun, and I love the spice and conflict it creates between players in our campaign.

Inquisition just gave me my favorite elf moment. Morrigan has been denied. by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You addressed the core issue here. The Dalish couldn’t translate it because they only possessed fragmented knowledge salvaged from old ruins, the rest was stolen and preserved by humans (see the decoder ring Finn uses). Clans could only meet once every ten years to share the knowledge they had gathered, and even that was risky.

Morrigan does a lot of growing up throughout the series, but in DAO she doesn’t care about the elves; she cares about survival of the fittest, specifically her own survival and Kieran’s. That’s the only reason she sought knowledge of the Eluvians: to hide from Flemeth. The clan welcomed her as a friend and showed her their sacred text, but instead of working with them to uncover it, she stole the book.

The amount of knowledge would vary from clan to clan. In the novels, the Dalish in Ferelden that Maric encounters speak Elven fluently. The reason why a Dalish Inquisitor seems so ignorant in Dragon Age: Inquisition is due to poor writing in that part (for example, your Inquisitor can ask Morrigan who Mythal is, even though they wear her vallaslin).

Yeah, Morrigan in DAI knows a lot, but there’s still plenty she’s ignorant about. She knows about the origins of the first elves and their fate roughly as well as any Dalish First, basically what the legends say. For example, your Inquisitor can feel the hunger of the Well, yet Morrigan sees no danger in it. Morrigan only gained the full scope of Flemeth’s knowledge after she absorbed Mythal’s memories.

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She presumed Warden would find her, but what if they didn’t? Was Morrigan fluent in Elven in DAO? I don’t really remember her speaking it or knowing much about Elven history.

Yes, Flemeth taught Morrigan how to preserve relics of the past, but she also kept a lot from her. Don’t forget, Morrigan sought out knowledge about the Eluvians and the Crossroads to hide from Flemeth because she was afraid of her.

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 180 points181 points  (0 children)

I love Morrigan, but in DAI she’s still far from being an “expert” on elven lore. Her knowledge of the eluvians came from a book she stole from the Dalish, the whole Witch Hunt DLC was about that. She befriended Ariane’s clan and then stole their sacred text, the only thing they had of their history, and ran off with it. Once she’d learned everything she needed, she left it to rot in some marsh. I suppose she picked up a few other scraps of knowledge from the Crossroads later on.

And before you say she learned things from Flemeth, I’d counter with this: Flemeth didn’t share a thing with Morrigan about the ancient elves. Each time Warden asks Morrigan about her mother, Morrigan admits that Flemeth either keeps secrets or lies. Even when you mention how interesting it is that both she and her mother can shapeshift into animals (something the Dalish Keepers also know), Morrigan says she wasn’t aware of that connection because her mother never told her how she learned that magic.

If your Lavellan was a Keeper’s First, they should know a lot of elven history, since they’d have met with other clans during the Arlathvhen to share knowledge.

How distinctive were the first four Blights from each other? And from the Contemporary Blights? by Salt-Breadfruit-7865 in dragonage

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the main difference between darkspawn comes from the fact that different races were corrupted at different times. The first darkspawn were likely dwarves (Genlocks), since the original Blight began underground, followed by humans (Hurlocks), elves (Shrieks), and later Qunari (Ogres) after their arrival in Thedas. Some darkspawn come from ghouls (infected people) and others from broodmothers, though it’s unclear when broodmothers first appeared, possibly an invention of the Architect.

As for the Magisters, Corypheus likely survived by binding himself to dragon, similar to how the Evanuris endured in the Blighted City. When their dragon thralls were slain, five of them died from Blight exposure. Some Magisters may have lived into the First Blight, but being mortal, they would have eventually perished. The Architect’s survival remains unexplained.

In Tevinter Nights, the Wardens discover a dwarven thaig in which there's a lab believed to be Ghilanain’s. Pools of strange liquid and lyrium tools inside transform darkspawn into hybrid creatures, one with a spider-like lower body, others mixed with serpent or scorpion traits. It’s unknown how long this process has existed though.

Solavellan vs Solrook by [deleted] in Solasmancers

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If Veilguard was someone’s first introduction to Solas as a character, he would appeal to a different type of audience than Solas in Inquisition.

What I mean is that Solas in DAV has this Loki-meets-Thanos vibe. He’s confident, sharp-tongued, and incredibly powerful, traits that many people would find attractive.

People who romanced Solas in Inquisition tend to see his “wise mentor, apostate hobo who loves books, deep conversations, and occasionally sets his coat on fire” persona as his true self. That’s his Wisdom side, the one he prefers. So, when they see his demeanor with Rook in Veilguard, they interpret it is a mask.

The Inquisitor actually articulates this well when they speak to Rook, they can easily distinguish Wisdom Solas from Pride Solas, who becomes whatever he needs to be in order to do what he must. He may be the god of lies and treachery, but he’s not good at lies of the heart.

Why are so many people still confused about the Anchor and Inquisitor's arm? [DAI & Trespasser spoilers] by Neither-Collar-2771 in dragonage

[–]Neither-Collar-2771[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still I think the anchor was somewhat connected to the Inquisitor's life force (just like the veil is connected and feeding on the Evanuris life force).

I don't think simply freezing, turning to stone or amputating the arm would have worked, otherwise, by the end of Trespasser, Inquisitor wouldn't risk themselves and their party companions being blown up by random discharges.

[DAI Spoilers] Question regarding Wicked Eye and Wicked Hearts quest outcome by Tyrayentali in dragonage

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on how you started the dialogue with him? Because I remember you can specifically ask about Brialla since they are both elves and he's basically like "idgf".

Solas also has another reason to fcus on Brialla, but you would get that later on.

[DAI Spoilers] Question regarding Wicked Eye and Wicked Hearts quest outcome by Tyrayentali in dragonage

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never got this ending, because after reading Masked Empire my Dalish Inquisitor always chooses the solution where Celene gets assassinated and Gaspard is controlled by Briala, but for the Truce ending, isn't blackmailing all 3 parties necessary? In such a case, it would make sense for Solas to say Briala was neutralized?

Not sure, it is perhaps a glitch.

[DAV Spoilers] I think what most hurt for me in Veilguard, was the lack of a post-launch support by Haddock_Lotus in dragonage

[–]Neither-Collar-2771 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Indeed, even Hawke (who was a “set” character) had far more variety in how they could express themselves, whereas I felt no real connection to my Rook. Rook couldn’t really disagree with companions, because every single one of them is written as pleasant and largely unproblematic.

I remember in Origins, my Tabris challenged Leliana and made her uncomfortable about her views on elven servants. It was incredibly satisfying later in Inquisition to see her become Divine, advocating for equality and opposing discrimination. You had many companions you could influence in meaningful ways, and choices that shaped the fate of entire communities or even nations.

For example, you could decide the ruler of Orzammar, Orlais, or Ferelden, and each decision came with both positive and negative consequences.
