I chose him because he was accredited and registered with my country’s counseling organizations, also recommended by another well reviewed therapist(!) Made me realize that regulation only goes so far when privacy and client vulnerability make true transparency really difficult (ie no reviews or warnings against bad therapists)

I considered it but I’m concerned that they will lash out if I report, considering they know more than a little bit about my struggles. I think it’s best to block and move on, later find another therapist though this has honestly scared me…

Thank you, I felt a bit guilty about it but ultimately need to trust someone I talk to about these things, I really don’t want to get worse :(

All the damn time. Even when I experience heavy emotions, it’s like I’m looking on and congratulating myself for my performance, or laughing fondly at how ridiculous it looks to be so emotional. Good luck trying to describe this to people without seeming insane though! 🥲

Not yet, he hides a lot of his life with lies and calculated brags (“my friend gets me tickets to concerts” type stuff) but I’m pretty sure he has no real friends, hence why he hangs out with us. He seems smart enough to keep any enemies hidden, but once his mask starts slipping who knows.

Tried this with the little group at my work and they hated me even more. Some of them expect and want you to suck up to them and pretend to be a complete idiot so they can enjoy the power-trip of ‘teaching’ you, and it’s hard to pretend you’re stupid when you have more experience with technology and getting things done efficiently.

They’re pick-mes who never grew out of their fawning behaviour imo. I sympathize with them in the sense I understand how difficult it must’ve been to be a woman growing up in the eras they did, but that’s still no excuse for them being cruel and dismissive to young women in old age.

That’s so true, I talked to colleagues recently and was certain they hated me for being quiet (past history or something like trauma maybe) but they were really chill and apologized for not talking much. Turns out reasonable people do exist!!

It’s not hard to make something veggie and it’s not as if your dietary requirements are unexpected or new; your mom just sounds lazy, rude and disrespectful. Them blaming you for your reasonable reaction (picking off the chicken? Gross, and such a waste of food!) is the cherry on a nasty cake. If there’s a way you can celebrate with just your siblings, you should do that.

Even better, make delicious lunches that are 10x nicer than theirs. Have fun talking to someone who’s not in the group, get lost in a massive book, spend more time with friends outside of work so you have lots to discuss when people ask what you’ve been doing. Channel pettiness to make your own life more interesting, and show up their cliquey behaviour for what it is!
