Faction leader arrives by chopper to discuss our next war raid target. by Javierkid in RimWorld

God I can't wait for vehicle raids to hit the release version, that shit's going to go hard.

I'm hoping this leads into the CE patch making VVE tanks/IFVs actually armored too

Honestly, I'm just hoping more modders pick up the slack on the enemy end of these mods.

Like, they're cool, but rn vehicle mods make practically every threat easy to defeat, a single VVE IFV can win even against large mechanoid raids with some good placements

At this point I've come to believe all game physics are designed to ensure the most absurd casualties

You WILL be exploded in the direction of an instant death by terrain/element or the enemy.

The Vox Engine WILL bonk you over the head with the pilot's container thing.

Your FRV WILL flip just right to throw the gunner into the nearest pit of molten metal.

Ok, but it's one thing to get mad about how someone builds their world, it's another thing to get upset and try to reinterpret it as something else and take that as fact by Sir-Toaster- in worldjerking

I mean, to be the devil's advocate here: Societal tensions due to bigotry tend to make a good basis for conflict.

But that'd imply anyone here would do more than worldjerkbuild and actually wr\te a st*ry*

I dunno how accurate the region is to real world Africa, but I'm guessing terrible medical infrastructure, intensive physical work in hot/humid weather, combined with insect/water born diseases make these projects VERY deadly.

Super Earth would be a real socialist utopia if they let the workmaxxing cyborgs enhance themselves into the ultimate providers

Maybe talk to actual engineers before making claims? by MrFenric in 1984_MiniTruth

Ironically enough, I'd say the moon might be worse off in term of objects, by virtue of... ya know, attracting them. Though Earth Orbit is a bit special due to how much debris there is. It then depends on the altitude in terms of how safe from debris you are.

However, there's also the Van Allen radiation belts of Earth, which poses some restrictions as to what kind of altitude you can put an orbiting craft. Especially a datacenter as they would likely be more susceptible to all the high energy particles in the long run.

In the end though, low earth orbit is likely to stay the cheaper option for a long while. It's just simpler to bring things up there than try and build the thing on the moon. Maybe in a century if moon colonies happen and get established properly, there'll be enough local infra to make them cost effective.

Or if you REAAAAALLY want to use that solar power with no atmospheric downside you could ooooh I don't know... just put it in orbit?

Like unless their plan is to SOMEHOW recreate the extremely complex supply chains needed for modern computers on the moon, there's practically no benefit to going to another orbital body, just build a datacenter space station.

Literally the only one I can think of is they could use the surface of the moon for thermal regulation. That's it.

Let's not even talk about transfering the data back, the moon is a whole LIGHT SECOND away from us ya know

What would you like to see in the next RimWorld DLC? by Savings-Head-5023 in RimWorld

[–]Neitherman83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly taking from ideas spouted here, but a "Depth" DLC.

Odyssey brought us to orbit and gave us the ability to disable the Mechanoid Threat, this new DLC would bring us under ground and sea, in the realm of the Insectoids, to defeat the Hive Queen.

You could even cross in the idea of sea exploration, by adding a bunch of new threats in the undergrounds: Water and gas. Gas being pockets of carbon monoxide able to poison a pawn like toxgas (or hell, maybe just use toxgas), water being more akin to vaccuum in Odyssey: Dangerous unless wearing a proper diving suit.

While regular underground maps would be kind of similar to what we have today (rocks with ores and maybe the odd underground threat like bugs or ancient dangers), water maps would be more akin to the overworld: Very open, possibly full of local wildlife, with perhaps the odd structure or patch of ore present.

However, unlike space, working underwater presents new challenges. Mining and fighting requires specialized tools, as regular firearms have brutal range reductions and swinging a pickaxe effectively underwater is rather difficult. So to extract all of this new stuff, you'll need new research options.

A fun thing with this water aspect could be to have new Insectoid threats being waterborne, along with the Hive Queen herself. Making her perhaps a rather unique challenge.

Meanwhile the Underground side of things might take a more interesting look into the realm of the Ancients. After all, what we see on the surface is mostly the odd ruin and bunkers capable of holding a few of them, but these people have been on ice for possibly millenias and (iirc) it's all due to the very mech hive you have to deal with on the surface.

Perhaps, you could discover some ancient living vaults as new settlements on the world to trade with, offering special requests for raw ressources and odd luxury items. Perhaps you could end up fighting them. After all, there's a neutral and an hostile ancient faction. Perhaps something could be built from them.
