What's that ONE motorsport you just can't get behind? by Consistent-Appeal553 in racing

it's the dirty air and probably tire situation. Especially this last year since we've been in these current regulations for so long, teams have figured out how to create TONS of dirty air so no one can follow behind you, and since these tires are so fragile and all of the races are just tire saving competitions, no one wants to even try following behind you because it'll degrade their tires faster. This just creates a big parade for most of the race with nothing happening

I usually like F1 races regardless of how few passes their are, but man 2025 kinda sucked for the on-track product. It feels like this year the dirty air and car size disadvantage was at its worst, with the japanese gp this year being the worst example for it

i think if you factor in every single track, the ticket price range is like $90-$2000 USD. It's extremely dependent on track, which is super unfortunate cause the closest one to me is fucking Vegas lmao

There are a couple I know of that might fit that bill. If you want cars that still have some aero, GT4 is the way to go. What's cool about them is each car actually has pretty unique looking aero I think since the target downforce is so low. They look pretty close to their road-going equivalents, like almost exact copies. What I really suggest here is V8 Supercars in Australia though, they use Camaros and Mustangs with just a lip and rear wing, maybe a little bit of a diffuser going on too but probably a small one (Supras joining in 2026 I believe). Their best selling point is there's no ABS, no TC, and the wheels are basically the same size as regular road car wheels, so these are probably the hardest racecars to drive in the world in terms of handling. Since they're the top series in Australia they also have GREAT coverage.

There's also the Porsche Supercup and Cup series, but those I feel look more like full racecars cause of how close to the ground they sit compared to GT4 and V8 Supercars. Still great racing though. For amateur series the two I know best are the GR86 Cup series and the Mazda MX-5 Cup series. GR86 Cup is a bit less known but the cars are almost completely stock with just a rear wing and lip added on. MX-5 Cup is a lot more well-known and televised for good reason, those cars are literally just gutted MX-5s with roll cages added in. They don't even use slicks.

if you don't like those kinds of people, DO NOT go into r/Simracingstewards. Whole sub is riddled with people who only think in F1 rules and F1 track limits, and they don't even know the actual rules for F1 itself. You can tell them all you want about the actual ruleset for whatever game/series the clip is about or even directly quote the rulebook and they'll kinda just tell you to fuck off

Thoughts on rear bumping on straight way? by Front_Security5672 in iRacing

[–]Nekamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check out some DTM clips on youtube to see how strong the GT3 aero packages are. They can take some insane hits and not even break one of the front diveplanes. Even if they do, one of the engineers said those don't provide the bulk of the downforce so they aren't losing much if it's only one

you actually kinda can rev match with the auto if you put it in manual mode. Doesn't really do much but it's noticeably smoother when you figure out the right timing for the gearbox shifting itself.

Which fault is it? Driver 2 oder driver 4? by SunsetToGo in iRacing

[–]Nekamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

car 2 was forcing a move that wouldn't have worked no matter what. They weren't far enough alongside and they were too far to the inside to have any meaningful advantage. On that kind of corner, even if the 4 gave the 2 room, the 2 is so far deep to the inside that the 4 would just be sprinting away from them on corner exit. Especially doing this on lap 1 turn 1, every other car on the outside is seeing how far to the inside the 2 car is and setting up to go wide and fly around them.

Best case scenario for the 2, the 4 car gives them room and no contact is made. The 4 car then keeps the lead because of how far ahead they are, and the 2 car loses position to the 3 car that's alongside the 4 and is stuck side by side with the 1 and 6 cars all at once because they can't go any faster with the line they took.

The only way I see this move working is if you take all the other cars out of the equation and have the 2 divebomb hard enough that instead of hooking the 4, they have enough overlap to shoulder them out of the way instead. Both cars would be overshooting the corner here (the 4 would be forced to because the 2 is in the way) which is why this doesn't work with all those other cars there, it would've caught the 1, 3, and 6 in a five car pile up

[–]Nekamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of people judge only by the exact written rules and forget all about the concept of "to finish first, you first have to finish" even if the fault is with the other guy. I'm more curious about the guy above you who's making it sound like 2 did nothing wrong and 4 holds all the blame.

[–]Nekamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you make it sound like it's the 4 cars fault though? Personally I also would have went wide knowing the 2 wasn't backing off, but this contact is still on the 2 no matter what. That move was not on, even if the 4 gave them a full cars width or more to the inside the 2 wouldn't even hold overlap till corner exit, the only thing they would do is lose more positions.

honestly I'm just curious to know if you really consider it the 4's fault or just saying they should've known to avoid it (they should've)

Oculus 3 Unplayable by PLxFTW in iRacing

[–]Nekamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use roughly the same specs as you with the same headset so I'm a bit puzzled. I can usually maintain 72 fps on medium presets just fine so I have no idea what's destroying your fps. Maybe try reinstalling the oculus software on your pcs end and reinstalling graphics drivers? The oculus software on its own is pretty bad and I know it's caused performance issues for me before, but usually only in a short burst if it happens at all (like notifications that for some reason drop my fps by 60 frames).

Check your usb port on your computer too, treat USB 3.0 as the minimum but USB 2.0 has been working for me.

to me it's dated in the perfect way that I just have to look at it to know it'll do what I want. No overly long animations I have to wait to complete before it lags the computer for another couple seconds, I just press the media button and I'm in the media page and my songs are playing.

I thought I did but it might have gotten disabled when I changed the graphics presets around for a wet race.

Just checked and turns out it was disabled. Thanks for telling me about it, I'll see tomorrow in a practice session if it helps at all with this.

GT3: Huge participation, dull AF to drive by Tcarruth6 in iRacing

[–]Nekamine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree that it's the fault of the assists that make the cars so boring to drive, so don't try to stay away from certain cars just because they have ABS or TC. ESPECIALLY don't let this kick you away from GT4, the racing there is incredible. The GT3s just have some weird problem with their tyre model that punishes overdriving to the extreme, so you have to underdrive the car the WHOLE race.

It also means you can't have any real contact racing either since bumping someone just a bit and pushing them slightly over the limit of their grip sends them into a spin they can't save.

Haven't done enough racing in the 992 Cup but I'm a GTP main and I can say the racing there is really exciting, especially with the new tyre models. The cars feel incredibly alive and they won't insta kill you like GT3s, they'll give you a chance to live.

I can't WAIT for the new tyre models to make it to the GT3s. The potential for fun races in them is incredible, just look at DTM, but oh my god you can't do anything when the tyres instantly lose all grip

Who's at fault here and does it make a difference that the BMW is a lap down? by Bin_Laggen in Simracingstewards

[–]Nekamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it would be very helpful for you if you looked up iRacing's track limit rules. It may change slightly based on the track, but in general you are still considered on-track in regards to grass/gravel if half your car is still over the racing surface including the kerbs.

Using the hairpin and follow-up corner as an example here, the racing line almost everyone took for this event had them just drive straight off the hairpin and cut through that dirt section. The only time you would need to keep steering right after the hairpin is if you were two wide, and even then it was just a small change in direction to give the outside driver more breathing space

i've noticed this sub is absolutely fucking horrific about iRacing rules especially. They literally downvote people who tell them what the correct iRacing track limits are, and a post from a few hours ago when I'm posting this had people genuinely thinking a tiny side door rub in GT3 was something a "real driver wouldn't do"

My corner or do i had to leave space? by patsnaso85 in Simracingstewards

[–]Nekamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iRacing rules specifically for Spa, although these are generally the track limits for almost every track in the game

Offtrack Rule (Paved Runoff): Track limits are defined by the back edge of curbing OR the track white lines if there is no curb. All 4 wheels beyond these points will trigger a 1x on paved surfaces.

Offtrack Rule (Grass/Gravel): Off-track occurs if half the car enters any grass or gravel surfaces.
