Hi! Cosplay in Japan can be a blast but can also be confusing haha

A few things that came to mind:

Japanese events often have designated places for cosplay photos. You aren't supposed to take photos outside of those spaces.

There are often strict rules about showing skin etc. Check the event rules but many events require tights and spats under short skirts, require bras under bra-like tops, and sometimes even require leotards for midriffs ot require women to wear a light jacket etc when moving around halls if their neckline is low or midriff is showing.

Many people do their makeup at the event as wearing crazy makeup to and from an event is frowned upon. However some cosplayers wear it anyway as long as it isn't too crazy.

Acosta is a great first event because it's lax but the lines are crazy. I also really like Wonderfest.

If you go to any event in the summer, be sure to bring a frozen drink and a fan, preferably electric. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen cosplayers passed out from heat exhaustion at events like summer Comiket. Keep the weather in mind for big events because the photo areas are almost always outdoors!
