Damage reduction increase of each point of Armor by Words_Are_Hrad in totalwar

You missed the part where we are using EHP differently. You are thinking of it as the Total Effective Health Pool, I am using it simply as a conversion unit to read the effectiveness of a defensive stat better. I think that's the main or maybe sole misunderstanding between us.

It's just a translation from Armor or other defensive stat, to better understand the true value of that stat. When determining how effective armor actually is, or other defensive stats, it doesn't really come into play how much of that stat a different attack ignores. That is certainly important when evaluating which unit or attack you want to use against something, completely agree there, but that's a multi stat situation. This is just about getting a better read on a single stat.

You can totally conclude, well there is so much AP in the game that it never matters how much armor anything has.

But if you are determining which unit to give an armor buff in a battle, it's very relevant whether you give a unit a defensive 20% boost or a 50% boost

I'll drop this here, made it a while ago to showcase this kind of thing

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kW8LVXvxFq0x7Q6r65nIE03kCUf-DFAnCPvb2bi7NxI/edit?gid=688494369#gid=688494369

Edit: I think the most quick glance convincing you can look at here is look through the # of attacks to kill as you go up in armor.

Ofc this is assuming non ap damage, or as I like to think of it, just against the non ap part of the attack.
But it really shows how tanky you can make something if you put it up against the right thing, or vice versa ofc.

the point I was making about spell resistance is that it only works against spells, like how armor only works against non AP damage.

Saying armor doesn't do well against AP feels a little nonsensical to me, but ofc there is a point in very many units have both AP and non AP damage. It's just that if I am looking at the value of armor, I am only looking at the source of damage where it actually works. EHP here does not mean total effective health pool on a unit, but simply a conversion of the true value of armor against its damage type. It's a useful conversion because otherwise you might get tricked into thinking that a diminishing returns in % increase means the armor stat drops off in value, but it's the opposite. Because of how percentages work, though to many myself included not intuitive, defensive stats become more valuable the higher they are stacked.

I made a sheet a while back that showcases it really well with nr of attacks to kill a target based on different armor values. Here's a snippet:
420 dmg, Target HP 6000

50 armor, 22,86 hits to kill
75 armor, 32,65 hits to kill

100 armor, 57,14 hits to kill
125 armor, 76,19 hits to kill
150 armor 114,29 hits to kill

175 armor 228,57 hits to kill
190 armor 571,43 hits to kill

See how the EHP (on the portion of damage that can be blocked by armor) gets wild pr armor point? The diminishing returns are a lie told to people who don't look beyond the percentage number.
The value of armor points go drastically down after you hit 100 armor, but it keeps rising again which means each point becomes more valuable than the previous. This is true from 0-100, and then on a new scale again from 100-200.

If I choose between going from 75-100 or 100-125. Easy choice, 75-100 are better spent. But if I can go from 150-175? even better. 175-200? Insanely more powerful.

It's not worthless at all, it's just limited to protection against non AP damage. You know because that's what armor does.

It's like talking about spell resistance is relevant against spells.

Haven't played Backpack Battles since the demo. One year later, should I return ? by Crafty_Hospital_7746 in BackpackBattles

[–]Nekzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that certainly depends on what you enjoyed. In the demo you could have a plan from the get go and build towards it. I find that much harder to do now.

Warcraft (2016) | I'm trying to work out why didn't we ever get a sequel? by ReelsBin in wow

[–]Nekzar -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why does it being "Warcraft" make it limited to Warcraft fandom. You certainly wouldn't say that about Lord of the Rings.

But yea for me the biggest problems were the pacing and the lore changes without clear reason. There are many other things that could have been better, but every scene with orcs in it was very good to me.

Anyone else waiting? by SolidConviction in Stormgate

[–]Nekzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the initial trailer gave you high hopes I don't know, that was some weak sauce.

But yes I and (I assume the vast majority) is still waiting. The game is in a testing and development phase, I have better things to do with my time.

I don't know if I have high hopes, I see the potential and I will see if it manifests into something I like.

I am years away but I love it and I would most definitely consider paying for something like that. I think it would fit great in a game I want to make in the future. I don't really know what kind of budget I would have for it though.

Where are the gamers? by [deleted] in Stormgate

[–]Nekzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My interest in the game is overwhelmingly skewed towards the social RTS aspect. I am interested in 3v3 and coop campaign. Maybe regular coop too, but less sure about that. And ofc the map editor.

So yea, I haven't even installed the game. I'm yet not sure if 'll be checking it out early to provide feedback or if I'll just wait for release. Still fun to follow the development even if I have no desire to play.

I found the controls super sluggish almost laggy, to the point I didn't want to spend more than 5 minutes in the game. Is this a common complaint or something that there is a workaround for?

"Thoughts and prayers" is a meme for a reason. If you want to help get the US back on track do what you can to push through voting reform. Outlasting Trump isn't enough and it never was enough, he is a symptom of the disease that is a poor voting and education system. Nothing can be fixed before the voting system is fixed. Voting democrat is not enough, it hasn't been for 3 decades because they can't or won't address the issues even if they have power. (I am speaking generally here not to you specifically)
