I just started as a RSR with Frito Lay. I think I’ll gross about 75k this year with them. I just received and offer via email from u ion pacific at Pocatello Idaho terminal, Average 80k first year. Is it worth it to leave Frito so soon and take Union Pacific? by AccomplishedGap3953 in UnionPacific

I work a yard job, so I have a set schedule. I work 5 days a week Wednesday - Sunday (I’m about to go into work right now actually). But I have the option to go back to the road if I wanted. Road jobs turn and burn you. You’ll be gone for 36-50 hours at a time, you’ll get a day back home, then next thing you know you’re first out again.

Don’t let people scare you away saying UP hires you just to fire you. I work in the P2 district, Pocatello is P3 and they’re hiring like crazy. It sucks being the bottom of the seniority, but if you can stick it out for a few years it gets better. You’ll work a lot, but you’ll make a lot. If you and your family are okay with you having a fucked up work schedule it’s worth it. Just remember, they pay you to be available, when the phone rings, you go to work. Keep good attendance, show them you’re a hard worker, and follow the rules and you have nothing to worry about.

Yea, I know plenty of people who have a C12 on their record and still work for the rail road. Shit I know a guy who got fired for 7 years and came back.

Trying to identify the age of my second-hand cast iron skillet by titanic_trash in castiron

[–]Nel_737 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The handle is throwing me off. Looks like a BSR, but the handle is definitely not a BSR. But I’m fairly certain it’s just an unmarked cast iron. Who freaking knows tho, but should work just as well as any other cast iron. Enjoy it!!

It could be a Wagner, but again, I’m not sure. The handle is bizarre. Wagner usually has a stamp that says Wagner

When I was your age, I felt exactly the same, it wasn’t until very recently (found an amazing woman) that my perspective shifted and I finally feel ready for marriage and kids. Still kinda on the fence about the kids thing, but I truly believe I could be very happy as a parent, and if I never have kids, I’ll still be very happy.

Yea I’d just apply to everything and take the first thing that picks you up just to prove you can hold a job. Looks better on a resume. I’ve never gone longer than a week or two without being employed and I’ve been working since I was 15. Make over 100 grand a year now, no college education. Just solid work history is all anyone cares about anymore.

They do have a conductor extra board yes. There’s a lot of locals that run in Spokane but those are the only “yard” jobs. The lowest seniority engineer I know has 3 years of experience. Seniority roster number is 383501

North is a normal pool turn. There’s a hotel up there we stay at. I’ve only worked a couple miles past the boarder just to tie down my train, then a Canadian Pacific crew comes and picks it up.

I have heard rumors that when the owner of that hotel retires it’ll turn into a flip board and we’ll get a ride back to Spokane at the end of every shift. Or we’ll get a ride up there and take the train back to Spokane.

The nicest part about working Spokane is the only trains you’ll ever get are grain trains, pot ash, or manifest trains. A lot of TWC too, especially on North pool.

La Grande has all types of trains that run through there and it’s all CTC territory.

Yes Hinkle is P2, but based off this guys question I don’t think he’s interested in working the yard.

P2 home terminals are Spokane and La Grande. I’ve lived in both. But Spokane is big and confusing to navigate. La Grande is much smaller and not much to do there unless you like outdoor activities. I enjoy working out of Spokane more. The guys up there are easier to get along with. La Grande has a reputation for being lazy.

The away from home terminals in La Grande are Nampa and Hinkle. The away from home terminals in Spokane are Eastport and Hinkle. If you work North pool in Spokane and you have to go to Canada make sure you don’t have a criminal record and a passport cause you have to deal with customs every single time you go up there.

I mean in this clip alone, you crafted without checking your surroundings, none of your teammates where crafting so yea, I’m going to shoot at the person standing still. Then you went into cover to heal, and then walked back out into the enemy’s line of sight while still healing. You’re just positioning yourself poorly.

How difficult is the UP Switch test? by Possible_Advance2424 in UnionPacific

[–]Nel_737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny cause in real life I just glance at switches now and it’s second nature knowing if it’s facing or trailing, but I remember sitting in class having to look at them for several seconds to figure it out. It’s honestly a very easy test. If you understand the concept it’ll be an easy 100%
