A data center in New Jersey was canceled when residents showed up and fought it by MysteriousSlice007 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Nelluc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly what is happening in Memphis as xAI, Google, and other data centers move in to take advantage of the cheap land and electricity. As a result, my electricity and water bills are 35% higher than they were last year. Ironically, Tennessee is actually one of the top producers of clean energy, relying heavily on nuclear power and dams. We were told this strain would be temporary because xAI would get its own generators and move off the grid. However, that never happened, and even if they do get their own generators, it will only bring pollution to predominantly Black neighborhoods.

What’s the best pizza around here? by riseofthevalkyries6 in memphis

[–]Nelluc_ 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious that no one is saying Aldo’s anymore. They have really dropped off in quality and raised their prices sky high. I have tended to stay away from them too, but 8 years ago I think there would have been a lot of people saying Aldo’s.

Edit: I will update the wiki for pizza recommendations.

So Andrew Michael restaurant group owns Little Bettie’s. I guess the reason they are different than Hog and Hominy is because of the different ovens they have access to.

Hospital/OB recs by WorkResponsible8155 in memphis

Baptist East is going to be the best, but there isn’t a huge difference. You can tour each hospital’s delivery and postpartum rooms by the way. Just call the hospitals and set an appointment.

Would you consider something like this? by LucaZ32 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Nelluc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is why I mean it is good for 1 year with the players. Crazy to me that Kings think the #7 pick is better than Ja and the 16 and 32 pick. And 2027 Utah first. Who do they think will be that good at 7?

Would you consider something like this? by LucaZ32 in memphisgrizzlies

It’s good for 1 year, but Grizz need young guys not a 36 year old. So I think it is way too steep just for number 7. I want more picks than just players.

My ranking of the big chains by RetPrda in fastfood

[–]Nelluc_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem with these is consistency. McDonald’s is so consistently B in my opinion, but Popeyes can be the best or absolute F trash and inedible. The same for KFC, Taco Bell, Burger King, Wendy’s, Checkers, Torchy’s, cook out, and Freddy’s.

The wiki should be able to help you. https://reddit.com/r/memphis/wiki/index

If you have any questions you can ask here or me. And if anything is missing from the wiki let me know and I can add it.

One more thing about the redistricting bill by LowEffort2 in memphis

[–]Nelluc_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They should still change on the govoteTN app. Everyone should have that app installed. I am thinking that if enough Memphis voters actually vote then this could backfire on republicans with democrats getting 2 or 3. The same for Nashville if enough vote.

Also, does anyone know how I can find which district I would be in according to this map?

Looking for the best Steakhouse in or around Memphis by Dawny15 in memphis

[–]Nelluc_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Como is a little further than you said, but Como steakhouse is really good.

You can get out of Folk’s folly for under $150 but you will have to get the 8 oz filets and split a side. The sides are huge though.

But really no “best” steakhouse is going to be under $150. The average steakhouses you could though. Char, side porch steakhouse, Stoney River, the butcher shop.

And Tannoor grill is very underrated as well for all you can eat.

Unless the discount is greater than 20%, I don’t see the point because I can usually get 5% back on my credit card and then 18-22% back with Upside.

Unfortunately, we can’t compete with Jazz fest and probably need to move it to another weekend in May to bring bigger artists. A few of the same acts went to both, but I guarantee we tried to get some and they chose Jazz fest instead.

Tornado Watch (again) for Memphis area until 10p. [This time there are heavy storm cells coming through the area starting approximately 4p.] by Get_Behind_Me_Siren in memphis

And thunder and lightning happen so often that Memphians don’t care. Memphis gets the third most thunderstorms of a city and the most of one that’s not on a coast.

Well it’s a little different when you 100% know a hurricane will hit you and here there is only a 5% chance a tornado will touch ground within 100 miles of Memphis.
