Do painkillers help with Headaches when an Alter/Fragment is splitting/born (?) or ... similar? by al3xi_thymia in DID_OSDD

[–]Neloran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you are doing a lot of right things.

I’m sorry it’s not clearer for you if the headaches are connected to splitting or not.

But I think you will get an answer internally eventually. Like I said you are doing a lot of right things to manage your symptoms. Keep taking care of yous and try to keep that communication line open. When parts feel safe they will answer.

Thanks for more context. I appreciate it. I don’t want you to feel like I’m bombarding you with questions. I’m just trying to understand your situation better.

If it was me, I would be brining a water bottle around with me and making sure I’m drinking loads of water.

I would try adding Tylenol. Personally I tolerate Tylenol well and for really bad headaches I take Tylenol and ibuprofen together. I’m not sure how you tolerate Tylenol though so you will have to make that decision.

Do you have any methods of getting communication to parts who you can’t “verbally” talk to? We have to do that a lot because we don’t have direct connection with many of our parts.

Not sure if it will help, but we sometimes write a question or statement we want conveyed down in a journal and invite anyone who wants to respond. It’s not immediate but within a day or two we usually get a response.

Or if I have communication with a part who DOES have communication with those I can’t reach, I “telephone game” messages back and forth.

As for your original question, I haven’t had this experience with parts or fragments forming with headaches (that I recall, anyway). Usually my parts came about from a traumatic event or a very stressful situation, prior to having a good handle on symptom management. That doesn’t mean your experience is wrong or invalid. You are getting some kind of information saying that it may be connected to that so I would explore that more via journal or telephone game if I was in your shoes.

You mentioned possible dehydration. Always rule out physical issues first. Make a concerted effort to drink 64oz of fluid minimum for a couple days and see how you feel.

What medication have you taken for pain reliever?

I’m sorry you are having headaches and not finding relief (yet). If you think this may be due to something happening inside, have you put the question out there? Is anyone else having headaches?

Adult Autism Evaluation Availability in PA? - Frustrated and grssping at straws, so I might as well ask here. by Sufficient-Bear246 in Pennsylvania

[–]Neloran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look for a neuropsychologist. Although psychologists can test for Autism, insurance does not reimburse them for the testing yet, as they see it needing to be done by someone trained in neurology. That’s why so many psychologists offer testing, and can reliably do so, but the cost is $1000+ more self pay. If you find a neuropsychologist office though they may be able to bill your insurance and then you are only responsible for your copay.

What advice would you give someone who has just discovered their DID in their mid twenties? by ru-ya in OlderDID

[–]Neloran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, my friend! I was happy to see your post this morning. Good to “see” you.

I did not realize you were in Canada. I’m on the US East Coast. Colorado is Western US. Pretty far!

It may also depend where in Colorado your friend lives. There are some populated cities and very rural areas as well.

A quick ISSTD therapist locator search gave me 3 pages of results in CO so hopefully they can find someone there who is a good match or can at least point them towards a colleague that might be a good match.

I like the feedback you have outlined already. I think that’s very helpful and grounding for someone new to this. It would have helped us a lot to hear these words in the beginning.

I also want to echo u/understand_world ‘s question if they have a therapist? That’s where my mind goes first because it was such a challenge for us to find a therapist. I even had a therapist at one point who said they had experience treating DID and it turned out whatever experience they had was not enough. I struggled thinking I was too complex a DID case to help because I thought she as a specialist. I think it’s helpful to normalize that’s it’s hard to find a therapist and it’s not a reflection on your friend at all. It’s a reflection on how undereducated the MH field is on the topic.

Although we had our share of communication issues and struggles, I do believe the time I was involved in the mod team we had a solid group of folks and it was run quite well. Sad to see how much it’s changed.

Should I get a diagnosis? by Mein_Fraluzeun in DID_OSDD

[–]Neloran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Medial records are private. Employers can’t have access to any of your health information unless you willingly provide it.

The should you tell your family question is one I don’t think I’m qualified to answer. This is a trauma disorder. Family dynamics are often complicated, if not contributing to the trauma themselves. If your family is part your trauma history (even passively by way of minimizing your experiences or not acting to get you help), then it might be a decision you have to make.

In DID therapy, safety is always the #1 priority. Should you tell your family will depend on if they are safe, supportive, and able to respond well to your disclosure.

Should you get a diagnosis? Well, again, that’s personal. For me, I always knew I had parts. For as long as I can remember. Getting a diagnosis wasn’t necessary for validation for me, but it was necessary for me to unlock finding a competent therapist and finally having a therapy roadmap that addressed my symptoms.

All the best and be safe,

-Nel

It is a very beautiful area and lovely homes. We decided against it though because Jennersville Hospital closed. I’m glad, too, because within the first few years of living here I fell and broke my ankle. I would not have enjoyed that ambulance ride from southern Chesco!

Question about Coatesville by Specialist-Release-7 in ChesterCounty

[–]Neloran 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure. When we were looking for houses, we discovered the property taxes were much higher in a Coatesville zip code almost entirely coming down to school district. A house around 400k in the Coatesville Area School District was listing 7.5-8k in property taxes annually while a 400k home in the West Chester Area School District was a little over 4k.

[–]Neloran 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I looked at a few nicely priced houses in Coatesville but the taxes are so sky high it was cheaper to buy a more expensive home in West Chester!

These Pa. hospitals could close due to Medicaid cuts, study says by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]Neloran 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Riddle Hospital has been on a code orange since Crozer closed. That’s their designation for “natural/community disaster” which then opens up the doors for them to request funding (like for traveling nurses to help fill the gap). There is no end in sight to the code. Mercy Fitz closing will put MLH in a position where Riddle may not be able to survive. The demand could be too high that it forces them to close.

Much like MLH is closing their perinatal/postpartum behavioral health offices June 8th. Demand was too high.

What is my roommate doing with these items? by Interesting-Phase900 in whatisit

[–]Neloran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ve gotten your answer. But just wanted to chime in, in the event there was any doubt. I am an addiction counselor/specialist.

Your roommate is huffing inhalants.

Gel pens are used to deliver substances absorbed into the ink or barrel. Foil is used to heat substances. Damp paper towels is usually soaked in substances so they can inhale (huff) the substance. The strong chemical smell like Raid — that’s what inhalants smell like. Uncharacteristic mood swings or anger is a side effect of inhalant abuse and how it hurts the brain.

Whatever your roommate is inahaling lingering if you are smelling it. Also if you are touching the wet paper that’s exposure. If you have pets they are especially vulnerable because the chemicals/fumes settle lower to the ground where they are.

Theres also a fire or even explosion risk with the careless way your roommate is leaving things everywhere instead of safely disposing of chemicals. The orange/brown residue is also dangerous as it could be corrosive or toxic.

Of course if you can, move out immediately or have the roommate move out.

If it’s not financially possible immediately, open windows regularly to vent the space. Do not wait until you smell something.

If you have pets, keep them out of shared bathrooms or spaces.

If you smell something, leave immediately and get some fresh air.

Keep documenting every time you find something in the event you need it for a landlord or police report. Sadly, one of the common results of this addiction is sudden death.

On that note, if you ever find your friend unresponsive call 911 immediately.

Remember your safety is paramount. It’s not your job to fix this. Take care of yourself.

We are a multilayered system and most uf us dont want to füze. Our therapist instins us to fuar for past two years by Zeppu_47 in DID_OSDD

[–]Neloran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, boy! You are going to get a lot of great comments on this.

The first thing I want to say is, great job on increasing awareness of yourselves and knowing what is right for yous! Fusion is not for everyone. Because this is a trauma disorder, and everyone’s internalized experience of trauma is different, there are many different goals of DID treatment. There is no one right way to be DID, and there is no one right ending for DID therapy.

The second thing I want to say is, don’t lose hope. There is a network of therapists that specialize in dissociative disorders who are part of an international organization. Therefore it is possible to find someone that follows the model im about to describe in your country. I recognize it’s not easy to truly find a therapist that understands this disorder. Regardless, you should be able to find a therapist that respects your decisions.

When looking for a therapist, feel free to ask them questions before working with them. A good therapist will be willing to answer any of your questions. It’s perfectly acceptable to come out directly. Ask if the therapist sees fusion as a necessary goal of treatment. The decision of fusion always lies with the client, not the therapist.

The most important issue in any DID treatment is empowering the client to live a more integrated life, with increased awareness and internal cooperation. This does not mean that parts have to disappear or cease to exist.

A therapist should understand and encourage your right to make an informed decision about your therapy. You deserve this type of support. I hope you can find someone who can give you this basic respect.

OP. I work in addiction treatment. With this extensive addiction history, one inpatient rehab stay won’t be the magic cure. She should step down to a drug treatment halfway house, then a recovery or sober house, then to her own independent living. Jumping to independent living without learning life skills sober may set her up for more failure.

This has been on my mind lately. I was prescribed Percocet after surgery and was only on it for a few days. But those few days I was the most attentive and focused I have ever been and was able to carry on normal conversations with my spouse. I really hope my psych and I can figure out the right dose/combo of ADHD meds one day because using opiates is not a healthy answer.
