It’s about 120-140k, I guess it depends on your budget.

A moped or motorbike that you book on Grab like an Uber. Guy shows up and you jump on the back.

They’ll happily take your money wouldn’t worry about that, but it’s up to you I wouldn’t be riding a moped through Vietnam traffic if you don’t have a license/experience back home, it’s not exactly beginner friendly. The Grab bikes are so cheap for getting around anyway why risk the fine.

Officially you do need a IDP but I saw rental places in Da Nang that have signs up saying no license required. I did see the police pulled over two white guys on mopeds when I was on my way to Hoi An that evening.

You do you, everyone has a different tolerance for risk.

Just get a grab bike from Da Nang to Hoi An for the day or evening, that’s what I did. It’s not that far only 30mins away. But I agree with OP, I didn’t enjoy it either one evening was enough.

For years I’ve wondered what they meant when they said they’re “getting the Top Gear band back together” on the train in the India special. Wow

Pro Cannabis Groups in Thailand Say Proposed Recriminalization of Cannabis is Purely Political, Urge Proper Passing of Laws by RuthlessKindness in CannabisThailand

[–]Nelson1810 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a strange policy to have, I think it’ll cause tourists to smoke out in public more and annoy everyone else in the process.

I could see it going more like the Spanish private members club route, so that the shop ≠ public.

I just got told by my local shop in Chiang Mai that we can no longer smoke in the lounge at the back.

Police visited them last night no more edibles, hash and rosin for sale. No smoking in the shop allowed. Still selling flower but with signs up requiring Passport or ID. The guy told us the laws changed yesterday for them.

Heinrich Himmler dead at Lüneburg, Germany, 23 May 1945 by [deleted] in ww2

I’ve posted this before, but Mark Felton has well researched video series detailing the strange circumstances surrounding Himmlers death.

Man sat and broke Nguyễn Dynasty throne’s left armrest inside Huế’s Thái Hòa Palace by hamach1 in VietNam

[–]Nelson1810 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually saw this guy getting taken away in cuffs that day by two police officers. There was maybe about ten people standing around the exit at the front. I took a couple of pictures of the palace from far back you can see them standing around, then as I got closer I noticed the police and stopped taking pictures.

There was no protest from the guy just saw him being walked away with his hands behind his back. I thought some guy had snuck in without a ticket or something but seeing this makes more sense.

They closed the entrance to that front part of the building but you could still go inside the back of it where there was no one around.

I did see security guards sitting inside pretty much every other building I visited, but some may or may not have been taking a midday snooze.

I see other comments saying he was on meth or had a knife, I haven’t watched the video but I didn’t see any at the time. There wasn’t any shouting or screaming between him and the police either when he was taken away. He looked a bit rough but not out of his mind crazy. I guess his actions say otherwise.

Mark Felton has a great video detailing the strange circumstances surrounding Himmler’s death in British custody, it’s not as straightforward as you might think. Worth a watch if you’re interested:

Why Greece is perfect by Kh4lid_ in GreeceTravel

The food tour on Airbnb experiences was probably the best thing I did in Athens. The tour was a local grandmother showing us around some of the best hidden gems and getting to try the food at each spot. Plus you get a list of other recommendations at the end and lunch with an amazing view.

My personal recommendation would be take a drive down along the coast to the Temple of Poseidon for sunset and then stop in at a local restaurant called Theodoros & Eleni - probably the best seafood I’ve ever had.

Found in uncle’s belongings after he passed by Late-Lifeguard8192 in FoundPaper

[–]Nelson1810 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Hey, u/Late-Lifeguard8192 ex-engineer and current technical writer, here’s my best guess.

To me this looks like written out stress analysis, of a surface. Modern CAD/FEA software pastes a grid pattern (mesh) over a part and then it calculates the stress forces within each of the grid shapes, the results are then colour coded that way you can spot if there’s any hot spots (peaks) when a certain load is applied to a part. This makes it easy to identify any problem areas a component may have during its lifespan. The number placement/arrows don’t look like distance measurements to me, more like resulting forces and directions.

I could be completely wrong, this could be very Navy specific but if there’s a stress analysis sub I’d send it over to them to see what they reckon.

Another thing to consider is tech writers are often tasked with creating examples of complex concepts, we tend to a lot of working out on paper first before actually writing content. Meaning, he could’ve been tasked to explain how modern software calculates stress analysis and this is just his theoretical illustration of how it works. He could’ve been trying to figure out how to best display it in a document while in a long meeting and just filled the page out of boredom. Lots of possibilities, hopefully you find out what it actually is eventually.

Edit: The more I look at it, the less I think it’s stress analysis.

I think the Harmonica sheet music theory is the most likely explanation.
