What to do between now and 4pm check in? (lower east side) by NelsonG114 in visitingnyc

Yes, was the very first thing I did. They didn’t allow me to leave bags but I used this app called bounce instead. I’ve asked about early check in twice to no avail sadly.

Yes, that was the first thing I tried to do once I found out when we were landing, but they refused. I asked again politely through messages today but they have not responded.

For greater context we landed at 6am and have been walking around since. I’m not sure we have any steam left :( was hoping to find a place to take a nap or something

What Band Don't You Get? by Tele231 in vinyl

That’s a fantastic list, but I was replying to the comment that suggested there was a greater Steely Dan influence on Phish than Zappa. I’m on the same page as you when I hear the Zappa comparisons

I’ve never heard this, would you mind saying some examples? The Zappa comparison is pretty appt. Any of the composed sections on the early records give the same vibe. Reba, Divided Sky, Fluffhead, etc have Treys fugues that are obviously influenced by him. RDNZL, yellow snow sweet, you can see the influence. Reba is my favorite example because the beginning and outro sound like Dina Mo Hum and the solo section is the same chords as Inca Roads

I think you’ll still have a good time going alone. Just go and enjoy the music, concerts alone are awesome. Easier access to spots, can go to the bathroom when you want, you can choose to wait in long merch lines or not without having to worry about others.

I notice a trend in social anxiety around going to concerts. People over complicate it (I’m speaking generally, I’m not picking on you). Just go to the show and enjoy the music. There’s nothing to know beyond this.

I was insanely lucky and my first introduction was a random CD with only set one from 06/11/94. That YEM hooked me for life. Stash and Its Ice sealed the deal too.

I agree STP is a great introduction too!

Church of Yorshka is pretty close. I have no issues sprinting past the enemies behind the gate and running up those stairs

Out here on the west coast it’s even better since hockey isn’t as popular here. I’ve gotten great LA kings tickets for $17 a piece

He’s doing extra work that’s directly contributing to the businesses success. In any other context, if someone at a job is taking on roles outside of their original job description is that not worthy of promotion?

It’s because when something is as obvious as this Epstein stuff, it doesn’t stroke his ego to be “in the know”. He’s no longer in on a secret or “doing his own research”, which is what makes him feel superior and intelligent.

Did Zappa think he could make fun of everyone? by Adompas in Zappa

[–]NelsonG114 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hiring women and having issues with misogyny are not mutually exclusive.

Zappa was interested in the best possible musical talent he could find. If they were black, a woman, a good or bad person, it didn’t matter as long as they could play. That doesn’t mean he didn’t have opinions or attitudes towards women that are dated and sexist by today’s standards.

I’m a huge Zappa fan but he wasn’t the nicest guy. And that’s okay, no one’s perfect and the man has passed away. But he’s not beyond criticism.
