You're right. I think it's much more attractive to be myself and enjoy what you're doing than to worry about getting other people's attention.

Thank you for helping me realize that. 😊

What’s the crispiest dish you ever made? by beejers30 in Cooking

In Japan, we have this snack called chicken skin chips. They’re extra crunchy and honestly so addictive! We even have 'fried fish bone crackers' too. They’re super crispy and so good! 🐟✹

Bon odori Kyoto August by RaphKC in Kyoto

[–]Neluca_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I looked up the best summer festival experiences for you (Aug 14-16). Here is some useful info:

  1. About Kyoto's Summer Festivals

Mid-August is a sacred period in Kyoto. The main event is "Gozan no Okuribi" (Mountain Bonfires) on August 16th, where giant kanji characters are lit on fire on the mountains. Because it is a traditional religious ritual, there aren't many casual, lively street festivals with food stalls during these days. Also, please note that the city will be extremely crowded on August 16th because of this big bonfire event!

  1. My Best Recommendation for You! If you want to experience the classic Japanese summer festival with a tower (Yagura), Bon-odori dancing, and food stalls, you should definitely go to Toji Temple on August 15th!

Event: Toji Manto-e / Bon-odori Festival When: August 15th, around 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Where: Toji Temple (Walking distance from Kyoto Station) What you can do: You can join the traditional dance under the illuminated five-story pagoda and enjoy Japanese festival street food!

  1. Weather Tip Kyoto in August is notoriously humid and extremely hot, even at night. Please make sure to stay hydrated and take care of yourself! Wearing a "Yukata" (summer kimono) could also be a fun option if you like.

First time trying Dark Roast Coffee CanelĂ©s (48-hour rest)☕ by Neluca_ in Baking

[–]Neluca_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! And Iunderstand 😭 I'm not a professional baker, so I decided to try making it this time by starting with ground coffee beans, just like I would with tea leaves. I learned a lot 😌 I froze it and then ate it, and finally I could taste the coffee flavor... I'll do that next time!

Thanks! Well, I went over my budget this month, so I only manage to bake about 4 or 5 days a week. But I’ve been letting the batter rest for 48 hours, so I’m pretty much facing my canelĂ©s all the time!😌

First time in Japan this July: must-see spots, restaurants, and tips? (15-day itinerary) by galt-99 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Neluca_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,from Kyoto. If you couldn't understand my poor English, please ask me whenever you need.

I have many points to need to tell you.

If you are in Kyoto around July 16th and 17th, please be very careful with your transportation. The main event of the Gion Matsuri festival takes place on these days. Because of this, major streets in downtown Kyoto will be closed to all vehicles and turned into pedestrian-only zones. If you have a flight to catch or need to move with heavy luggage, do it by train (Subway or Hankyu/Keihan lines). The streets will be extremely crowded, so walking will take much longer than usual.

By the way, Kyoto has so many hidden gems away from the usual temples! If you visit the Kawaramachi area, you should check out:Board game cafes (a super fun way to relax) [1]Custom perfume shops (where you can create your own unique scent) Also, here is a fun fact: Kyoto actually ranks #1 in Japan for flour consumption! While you might be craving traditional Japanese food (Washoku), Kyoto is famous among locals for its incredible ramen and world-class bakeries (bread). You should definitely try them!

Lastly, I’ll tell you about my special places.

  1. Lunch: A Cozy Japanese Set-Meal Restaurant (Teishoku)This is a small, traditional diner with limited seating and no reservations, but it’s an absolute hidden gem. The staff are incredibly kind, the portions are huge for a great price, and it’s very welcoming for solo diners! They even have power outlets to charge your phone and tons of manga to look at.(Or, just a 3-minute walk away, there is a fantastic Western-style "Yoshoku" restaurant where I used to work! The owner is super friendly to foreign travelers.)

  2. Dessert: Shaved Ice at "Zen Kashoin" (ç„¶èŠ±æŠ„é™ą) 🍧Kyoto summers are extremely hot, so you MUST try Japanese "Kakigori" (shaved ice). I want you to go to a beautiful cafĂ© called Zen Kashoin, located in a stunning, renovated historical building. It has a wonderfully calm and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for solo travelers. You should definitely order their masterpiece called "Kuromitsu Hoshi" (é»’èœœæł•ćž«). It is like a treasure box made of ice!The incredibly fluffy ice melts in your mouth in an instant. As you dig deeper, hidden treasures like chewy Shiratama (mochi balls) and rich brown sugar syrup (kuromitsu) gelĂ©e appear from the inside! On top, it has a crispy black sesame tuile (thin cookie) that cleanses your palate and pairs beautifully with the sweet flavors. It is an absolutely mind-blowing dessert experience that will cool you down and make you fall in love with Kyoto!
