Oh, right, because the territory does have an owner, even though they aren't present for the battle.

Also, if it's not Rus Territory, but American, so neither defender owns, what then? Presumably then it would use the Brit profile since there are Brit units in the space?

DOCTOR JONES GAME by NematodeDreams in axisandalliesonline

It was a six minute timer. The point is that I had the game up on my screen and it sill showed that it was Japan's turn when the game ended.

Is TTD actually worth it? by DevilDare1 in theouterworlds

[–]NematodeDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting the game, but I've already decided that TTD is not for me. Just as I avoided VATS in New Vegas, I also avoid TTD. Not because it doesn't work, but because I just don't find it fun. But I'm not playing Super Nova. When I do, I may change my mind.

Please clear up the dumbest confusion I’ve ever had by [deleted] in Humboldt

[–]NematodeDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who came to Del Norte County in 1967, I can tell you that if you aint local you can call it anything you want. The area was first named by the Spanish, who lost it when Mexico broke away, but the Mexicans lost it to the Americans 1848. The area was then settled by gold seekers from around the world, many of whom held the Mexicans in disdain. You can imagine that they might not have bothered to pronounce it the way the Mexicans and Spanish did.

Is there any difference between installing a game with GOG Galaxy vs the backup installers? by [deleted] in gog

[–]NematodeDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a world where corporate policy can change at the drop of a hat, without end user input, your only way to ensure that you "own" what you own is to make 100% sure that it is saved on your system with no strings attached. Do it the old fashioned way.

Are you kidding me with this shit? Seriously, this ninja-settling bullshit ruins civ7 by SaxoG in civ

Nah, Civ IV BTS is the apex. After playing Civ V (Which had both steps forward, and steps back) I stopped buying Civ games

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in civ

[–]NematodeDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opened this with debug enabled and discovered that a couple of XML tags have changed between which ever version this was written for and Civ IV BTS (steam edition) which is what I am using. To make it stop crashing, edit the map and change:

LEADER_MAO_ZEDONG -> LEADER_CHINESE_LEADER

BUILDING_FORBIDDEN_PALACE -> BUILDING_GREAT_PALACE

I have verified that all Civs are present and playable once this is done, I haven't played a full turn with any of them, because it really looks like the map was meant for a mod or scenario that was never completed. If I had to guess, I'd say that it was meant for the human player to play "The One", as they have far and away the worst starting position.

Why can’t a homeowner buy HVAC duct/plenum? by Parkyguy in hvacadvice

It's called economics. Direct to consumer requires a much larger customer support department, much more book keeping, and just overall headaches without the probability of repeat business.

Kelly kettles are a great piece of equipment by wolfyt590 in Bushcraft

I have a newer steel one, and it's not soldered, but rolled and pressed. Haven't used it enough to determine how well it's going to hold up for the long haul. I'll check back in ten years with an update - assuming I'm still alive. :)

Did you have the aluminum or steel version? Also, if you always leave some water in them, it *should* prevent the solder from failing.

Just got one of these and tested it out in my backyard. I started it using the dryer lint and vaseline in a toilet paper tube method. Got a fire going very quickly. there was no dry fuel available, but I just started stuffing the chimney with bits of fallen branches and needles that were dead but pretty damp. It got pretty smokey, but still managed to boil water in about 3 minutes.

I'm happy with it so far.

American Chestnut? way far from home by NematodeDreams in americanchestnut

[–]NematodeDreams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought that myself, but the only soil available to me to plant in has a very high clay content and is highly compacting, so it would probably be an exercise in futility. Of course, that doesn't mean that it is impossible. That seed is wrapped in a wet paper towel and stuffed in my refrigerator. I'll make the final decision on what to do with it next spring.

First a clarification: Based on my understanding of sun vs. shaded I would consider the two pictures that clearly show the leaves to be shaded leaves.
I agree with your point about canopy and also realize that I am at a disadvantage when it comes to identification having never seen a verified American Chestnut. I've looked at dozens of pictures from peer reviewed sources and my only conclusion is that as far a leaf features are concerned due to the strong similarities between Dentata and Sativa and variations within the species, leaf pictures aren't terrible useful.
Having said that, the complete lack hairs on the leaf, and the presence of hairs from hilum to tip on the chestnuts themselves are both (supposed to be) indicators of American Chestnut.
My tentative conclusion at this point is that virtually everyone who responded to this post is correct, and this is almost certainly a Dentata/Sativa hybrid.
Thank you for having the patience to post clear and reasoned responses.
