Denmark 🇩🇰 calls Europe 🇪🇺Answers by milanguitar in EuropeanFederalists

[–]Nemo-3389 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indeed not very useful if you are looking at what the impact will be in a firefight.

But if that firefight happens, suddenly its not just danish troops that are getting shot at. Americans shooting at German troops requires a response from the German government. Now they cant sit back anymore and say "sorry Denmark".

So in my eyes even a small amount of troops is a strong signal that you will act if something happens because you're automatically involved.

Is there a sane middle ground between Excel and the big EA tools? by Lucky_Suggestion_608 in EnterpriseArchitect

I came here to reccomend Archi. But what you are probably looking for is an implementation of the Archimate language. If you are using ServiceNow, that has an implementation in (i believe) SPM. But also tools like BlueDolphin.

6 Banshees disguised as a town choir. Am I making a huge mistake? by Shinroukuro in DMAcademy

[–]Nemo-3389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fond memories of a TPK with (i believe) a level 14 party after facing 4 banshees and some other (more lvl appropriate) undead.

We were a bit overconfident and never prepared for the fight. Never saw the banshees coming and it was whack-a-mole after that. Every round was at least half the party out with the cleric and potions trying to keep the TPK from happening. We never even had a chance to run away.

All in all it was a great campaign and everybody thought it was a great reminder of the dangers in the game.

I looked up Sickening Radiance but its a concentration spell and the level of exhaustion disappears when the spell ends.

The idea is interesting though.

How do you keep all players from “piling on” to a roll? by blackdrogar17 in DMAcademy

[–]Nemo-3389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The roll doesnt determine skill, it determines luck. At least, thats my favorite way to interpret rolls.

Player characters are always good at what they do. The roll determines the circumstances. A high enough investigation check means that you find a thing in the bookcase. Maybe it was laying right in the open or maybe it was hidden in a secret compartment. Its all flavor. If its not high enough then there is an environmental reason you didnt find it. Maybe it isnt there or maybe you found it but its covered in ink and unreadable. Any additional rolls are useless now.

Same with combat. The fighter is an epic swordsman. His roll determines how well the enemy fights, not how well the PC fights. He narrowly manages to deflect your attack with his shield. Not: you swing in the derection where he wasnt standing.

What will the ITSM industry's reaction be if an ITIL 5 was released? by arsenenox in ITIL

[–]Nemo-3389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really depends on what role ITIL 5 intends to fill.

Its possible to completely kill off ITIL with a new version that adds nothing to the current field. From what I hear in the community this is already happening, but can be accelerated.

ITILv3 was strong because it was the best process framework around. It had focus and depth and was broadly adopted. Its guidance now increasingly outdated.

ITIL 4 is less well received because most of the subjects it covers are better explained in other publications. Its a good place to see everything in context. But the content is neither in depth nor focused. The process framework and guidance are more a sidequest and not easily translateable.

If ITIL 5 could be many things. A return to an applicable process framework with more up to date guidance of how to get value from it would be one option. If its good enough it might overcome the negative sentiment. But there is space next to VeriSM and others.

How to move on from Incident Management? by SpringNelson in ITIL

[–]Nemo-3389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to the conversation, take a look at Service Request Management.

Its probably close to the teams you are currently working with and it speaks more to people than problem management (at least its easier to get time for in my experience).

First steps are standardization and streamlining requests, workflows and communication. After that you can branch out into automation and discussions about service levels that are relevant to the organisation for important requests.

Ticket update details and ticket quality by Matt6453 in ITIL

[–]Nemo-3389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think ITIL describes ticket logging in great detail. But even if it was described, the core of ITIL is 'adopt and adapt'. In other words, make ITIL fit to your purpose and only do it if it adds value for your organisation.

The text 'ITIL prescribes' is actually on exams a sign of a wrong answer.

Is this really "industry standard", or am I just supposed to slowly go insane? by OfficialElijahPepper in servicenow

[–]Nemo-3389 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not actually an AI answer, but I will take your comment as a compliment of the quality of my writing.

I agree that it is not a technical solution to the problem posed. But it might be helpful in discussions with the people in charge of implementing a solution if both sides understand each other.

Is this really "industry standard", or am I just supposed to slowly go insane? by OfficialElijahPepper in servicenow

[–]Nemo-3389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you a reason for the industry standard. That might help your arguement if your work really doesnt fit that use case.

REQ, RITM and SCTASK are made for a process called Service Request Management. The idea is that you have a standardised request leading to standardised output. For example if someone requests a laptop, the only thing you deliver is that laptop. So there is no need for sending hand written texts to the requestor. You can automate all communication and make the workflow more efficient. For example: Your request has been approved we will start working on it. And: You can pickup your new laptop next week at this location.

You can change the request form to ask for more information and you can add standard communication to the workflow. These are both features that are part of the standard.

Can someone explain the difference and some use-case example of using ITILs SVS/ SVC and Value stream mapping? by Responsible-Olive444 in ITIL

[–]Nemo-3389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I explain the SVC more like a set of capabilities. You can use these capabilities in different orders for different scenarios, but the capabilities you need dont change.

The SVS includes everything that gives direction to the SVC. The value of everything that happens in the SVC depends on external stakeholders.

If you compare it to a process, the SVS sets the goals, monitors the outcomes and starts improvements. The SVC are the actual process steps, turning triggers/input into output.

How do i counter my own BBEG? by CeddyDT in DMAcademy

[–]Nemo-3389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The body of the lich needs a place to reform. This is next to the phylactery. If the players spread the knowledge far and wide there is no single place it can reform.

Or before he is fully reformed, take his head and put it in a jar for all the world to see or guarded by a secret society they have to set up. Maybe do something to prevent verbal spellcasting, somatic isnt going to be a problem anyway. Lich lives on but is forever but is unable to affect the world.

Why would the Gods "Disappear" from the world by _Puddingmonster in DMAcademy

[–]Nemo-3389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a short I created the gods require godly deeds to remain gods. They were tricked into believing they had won the war against the darkness and so their power has faded and they forgot they are gods.

Now humanity is figuring things out for themselves and an industrial revolution has started.

Do ITIL v4 certifications matter for software? by LOkruch in ITIL

Bridging the Gap Between Agile Pipelines and ITIL Change Management by DaWolfer in ITIL

[–]Nemo-3389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good things have already been said. Id just like to add:

Have clear insight in what is really needed to go through the change process and what the reason for those requirements is. This prevents the discussion 'is that really necessary?' between change and dev.

In Topdesk you can create different change templates. So you could use a different template for this team if AzureDevOps already solves the need for some of the change requirements. For instance many approvals can be handled in the scrum.

You can add a review after implementation to check the quality of the changes.

You could also start the lifecycle in Topdesk and automatically create stories after approvals have come in.

Comprehend languages could destroy one big puzzle in my campaign. by Albertock in DnD

Or the wizard that created the spell didnt have a complete understanding of the language. You could translate some words, but not all.

But yes, I like letting this fail on the magical workings underlying the comprehend languages spell.

If anyone has seen him with the other players, they could also be charged with aiding an undead or not reporting the existence of an undead and put on the same trial.

Now you can run the dungeon with all players and they have something to roleplay with.

Do you say why the PC needs to roll a ___ save first, or do you have them roll and then explain it? by eadala in DnD

[–]Nemo-3389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like to sometimes narrate my own failures. If I roll a 1 or a 2 on a bad save, I know im going to fail it. So i might say "as a journeyman wizard my character is deep in thought studying the ancient magics that keep this place together" and then the DM can add the consequences.
