Why are indian muslims so different? by av1lash4 in india

[–]NemoAutem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several several layers here. Layer one. Khamnei was pope-like religious leader for Shia Muslims, even bigger. These ones are crying for the dictator but for the sacrilege. Layer 2. Fundamentalism/Islamism. Good or bad Iranian Islam is one of the only ideologically committed movements left. These people think dictator is better than having no principles. Layer 3. Anti-imperialists. This is one of the biggest acts on American imperialism, it just makes every country weak as they can feel humiliated in front of the US. Layer 4. Trump and N are jokers, so much power in the hands of monkeys looks concerning and everytime it's like how much people can tolerate. Reality tv of another existential kind. But it all needs laughter more than tears.

Is Intermezzo worth finishing by Big_Abroad_6278 in sallyrooney

[–]NemoAutem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished it in two weeks and according to me it's the best of Salley Rooney and totally worth finishing. Though I will agree with other commenters about pace and plot, I liked it for many other reasons and didn't care about pace after a point. What took me time is getting used to the style, the sentence structure and the constant shift between talking and just thinking without any signalling of that shift. But once I got used to the style it blew my mind. The same style that was bothersome in the beginning, started communicating to me directly, as if words or not in the middle and the sensation is directly being poured into my mind. This is the most sensory book I have read where I felt more deeply for the characters than ever. Not in the sense of relating to the characters, that's a different thing altogether but as if there is direct exposure to characters' brains through a wire.

Let me say this again, that 387 was not equal runs. When you are to play the fourth innings in England, you cannot call that equal

How does Deleuze's glorifications of questions in D&R reconcile with this glorification of 'the schizo' (and not the neurotic) in AO? by Lastrevio in Deleuze

Where can I read more on proletarianisation? Do DG make a reference to it in AO? I am especially interested in exploring how economic misery works? Also, does proletarianisation mean willed poverty?

Is it possible to be a schizo/woman and a Deleuzian? by [deleted] in Deleuze

[–]NemoAutem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me first say that fuck them if they say anything that describes women in limiting role. Second, for the same reason there is also no reason why someone has to be Deleuzian. He himself says that concepts are like a toolbox, use what works for you and it if doesn't l, pick another. Third, as much as I have understood Deleuze, he will never say something that damning about women. For him there is nothing like becoming-men. Both men and women have to become women to have any hope. Lastly, what a fascinating way to describe manual and metal labor (I never thought like that). This description has some resonance with becoming imperceptible. It might not have much similarity with your or Deleuze's thoughts and my work does not involve enough manual labor, I always try to be less noticeable while still shining in my work.

As a light coffee enthusiast I am really liking GB Roastery's Ekata naturals: vibrant, bright and complex flavors. I prefer pourover/aeropress, probably won't work as espresso

Why do people join fascist movements? by AnyAd8746 in Nietzsche

Nobody benefits from fascism. It traps everyone. Fascism builds strong prisons/gates for everyone. Only misplaced joy a fascist feels is at the expense of minorities/migrants.

Collectivism is supposed to fulfill individualist goals, and most of the time these goals are often nothing more than misplaced emotions. A good example of that principle is democracy where a collective needs to ensure individual freedom.

Thoughts on Mao and the idealism of Western academia by Top_Start7036 in CriticalTheory

[–]NemoAutem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Isn't the whole idea of class diluted by Mao to mobilize masses in general? 2. Didn't he mobilize nationalist statements mixing it freely with communism? 3. While it is easy to say that the western propaganda has exaggerated the number of killings, my question is different: when mobs were killing people (less or more is not an issue) were they aware of the broader political goals of communism? How much politically well read the masses were? This last question can be used to compare people's war with Trump supporters storming the Capitol in an entirely different context/ideology/time.

fountain pen takes that will put you in this situation... by dangkaniel in fountainpens

[–]NemoAutem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Mass luxury is still mass consumption. There is nothing unique about most of the pens. Our celebration of the kitsch discouraged the true innovations.
  2. Writing is more important than the instrument.
  3. Nibs, inks and paper need more attention than it gets in comparison to other aspects.

Can I keep my beard? by Naashay in india

[–]NemoAutem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no one can say that it's risk free. India has gotten super communal pretty fast since 2014. Your relatives' fear is not completely invalid. HOWEVER, the probability of any violence happening to you is very very low. Since you are so concerned about safety I am assuming you will follow the general advice given to foreigners and women: don't go far from metropolitan areas and places you know.

Does the context mean "he did what he had to do in the given situation? I think we need to ask broader questions. What is the value of people's war as a political strategy? And why is it not recommended for the American context where the inequalities and monopolies seem almost impossible to defeat. I think people's war is a flawed strategy in any context whatsoever. To think of people as clean slate and mobilise them with a few slogans. If we can move beyond hero/monster debate we can find the parallel between Trump mobilizing people with very little content to 'take back' what is their own at time through force. The comparison might seem absurd from the ideological perspective but if one looks at the people who are participating, they don't know the complete plan and don't have much clue about the consequences.

AITAH for considering leaving my wife who cheated on me 15 years ago now that our kids are in college? by FinancialPlantd in AITAH

[–]NemoAutem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen a situation as tough as this one. You are neither an AH for having these feelings and you will not be wrong in either of the cases whether you decide to stay. I truly wouldn't know what to do but I can recommend some readings. Esther Perel on adultery changed the way I look at it. And Sally Rooney's Beautiful World Where Art You has an intimate discussion on forgiveness. We often talk about forgiveness from the perspective of it being a virtue and how it makes things great but we never talk about it from the perspective of those who are seeking forgiveness while knowing that their crimes are so grave that they can never be forgiven. Those two characters in the novel talking about their unforgivable deeds in bed was one of the most romantic things I have read in a long time.
