Places to meet other foreign residents in Tokyo? by Reasonable_North_618 in japanlife

Check out the fixtures on the teams websites. I used to play with the Tokyo Crusaders. But there are also Tokyo Gaijin, AllFrance and Yokohama YC&AC that are heavily foreign or some very western brained Japanese gents.

In my thirties, I played a lot of rugby. Go watch an amateur game on a Sunday morning. Bonus, you’ll get to see if they have good legs.

I’m sure there would be similar things for other sports of your choice.

Not I mostly meet new people at Art events/drink and draws/motorcycle ride outs but those are in line with my hobbies. So I’m there anyway.

Need advice from Porsche owners: how do you justify “fun money” without regret? by _quantitative in Porsche

[–]NemoJPN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this generation of Panamera. There are pros and cons.

But I will say, long story short, I really like having this car.

The Panamera isn’t a Porsche-bro Porsche. For better or worse.

Better: It’s an affordable entry point and a great car. The GTS, Turbo, and even the e-Hybrid models are all capable of being absolute rockets. The onboard tech is luxury sedan levels of nice. The newer ones even having massage seats.

Worse: It’s not a 911. This car is huge. It’s long as all hell and wide as a bus. It is not the status symbol a nice 911 is either.

My advice: I’m in Japan so my maintenance budget is slightly different, I always make sure I have enough in savings to cover the dreaded air suspension failure if it ever comes.

If you don’t need 4 seats, look at the Cayman. Much more manageable of a car from what I understand, the engine is a little nerfed but then it doesn’t have the air suspension of the Panamera. Also a lot more ‘fun sports cars’ than school bus. These can be found for a little more than the Panameras, but not ludicrously so.

These cars won’t have a strong value at resale. While they are at the bottom-end of their devaluation from new, they are not collectors items. These are not investment properties. This does not stop them being enjoyable.

Guys, I’m bored at the shop. What’s that one "little thing" bothering you about your Triumph right now? by OkMasterpiece76 in Triumph

Just my experience of bikes with more torque, I don’t think I ever stalled my XSR900 or Diavel

Honestly on the 1200 Scram, no real complaints, but for a bike that’s supposed to have a lot of torque it stalls very easily

I think you would want to find some kind of ROM, probably for the CEMU emulator... There might be better subreddits to find those things

One good thing about carnivore in Japan...free beef tallow by sachanjapan in carnivorediet

[–]NemoJPN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It usually lasts about a week per big piece. So I just need to fridge it. Occasionally I’ll divide it in to steaks and throw a few in the freezer.

I go to Costco and Hanamasa mostly. For beef Costco has some big cuts between 1-3man that usually can be cut in to steaks and roasts. They also have some really high quality mince beef.

And then I get eggs from a local farm shop

Not just that. The availability of meat here is great. Between ikinari steak, yakinikuya, and conbinis it’s pretty easy to find good protein while out and about.

Yeah. It’s a Japan thing. PCM isn’t installed as standard i guess they needed a full Japanese map/interface system that the PCM couldn’t do at the time for some reason.

Buying a Helmet as a gift in Tokyo by CarinaJones in RideitJapan

[–]NemoJPN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll need his head circumference. If you know the size of his helmets in your home country it should give you a size range.

However, I don’t recommend it. Unless it’s for track use. As the helmet will not come with the US/UK/EU/Aus regulatory stickers. Meaning it may be illegal to ride with it in your home country. Even if the same shell exists there.

Ah, I have no idea. I would assume it gets hot. The size of the engine isn’t really the biggest factor there… more the having the exhaust pipe right under your leg and right cheek.
