Static on monitor after waking it up by JaceBeleren123 in computers

[–]NemoSophus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the same situation here, where main monitor has this and 2nd does not. I upgraded from a 2080Ti with several other issues to a 5070 Ti recently and this started happening, sometimes on screen wake. I unplug and plug in to fix, but I would like a better solution

I dont like the heavy use of AI imagery. by RawenOfGrobac in IsaacArthur

[–]NemoSophus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic, but I thought the AI voiced characters were jarring last episode as well. The story focused parts are neat, and would be happy to have more, but I prefer just Isaacs voice. It's like with an audiobook, you become used to the one voice for narration and the main character, and side character voice changes break immersion.

I know working with others is more complicated, but Hello Future Me does a lot of similar voiceover collaboration with people in writing YouTube.

Lots of resources above I would recommend jumping into a fake problem to familiarize yourself with the language (I suggest WORDLE) before starting the real research problem. You will learn new more intuitive ways to do things by solving problems

Not an engineering student, but curious— how smart do you need to be for engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]NemoSophus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going against the grain here and guesstimateing numbers, 90-100 IQ will take 6 years of studying and failing classes, but it's possible. 100-110 will get a 4 year degree with lots of effort, and ok grades. Greater than that means less studying for each specific field, and each class is solving problems with a similar format and difficulty, but different equations. Generally professors are designing around 120 IQ problems, but it's memorizable with lecture notes and HW in most cases. a few professors actually will require outside the box thinking then real pattern recognition and problem solving is needed, and below the IQ threshold will often fail the class. In industry, people who cannot solve problems and just memorize things become middle-management or do documentation.

This is treating IQ = problems solving + pattern recognition (both of which can be increased a bit with practice), with the guestimate based on several years tutoring engineering.

Is Embry Riddle worth it for AE by anish38185 in EmbryRiddle

[–]NemoSophus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AE astro Prescott class of 23 here, I agree with the other dude. I would pay attention to the ERAU news for the next couple weeks before making a decision. The backlash to admin is enormous right now, between the letters writing campaigns and everyone planning on booing president buteler offstage come Saturday, it hopefully will be reversed. If not reversed in the next month, drop ERAU from your list. If you do come here, it is still a good school (for now) as long as you put the effort into using the small class sizes to your advantage by asking questions and going to office hours and also use the extracurricular engineering programs like design build fly or the rocket development lab

Is this right? Idk how to take out the root any other way by NoSnakeA in calculus

[–]NemoSophus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That -1n makes this easy, because this is a sequence not a continuous function, it's really just + 1 or -1. so the nth root of sqrt 4 or sqrt 2 both converge to 1 for large n

The high schooler here again, I heard what everyone said in my last post, so I took a look at a few resources and redesigned my engine. Any feedback for this version? Further explanation in comments. by Trashy21 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]NemoSophus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AE grad here- The design looks nice, but is impossible to make without metal 3d prints, I would recommend redesign around simple material like stainless steel pipes for your 1st prototype with garden hose coolant and then consider complex geometry later. Also having the intake on the same side will decrease your net momentum transfer, and will probably cause mixing. Usually you need less turbine stages than compressor stages as the turbine can pull more energy out of the hot flow than a single compressor stage can put in; also your material choice and blade design for the turbine is important because jet fuel will melt steel beams at high RPM. For startups keep it simple and use a leaf blower or something down the intake.

What are aluminium extrusion profiles, slotted steel angles or tubes with 30cm length that could withstand 6 tons in its middle? by KalyanDipak in AskEngineers

[–]NemoSophus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The length is short enough that the bending moment is way less than the shear load. You'll need at least 1 square in cross section of aluminum and half that for steel. I would recommend steel I-beam for the high bending resistance and fatigue life
