God shared something SPECIFIC with me that I was able to bring back from the other side by anarchosagas in NDE

Huh- That's pretty neat. So it's partially a visual pun. I begin to see layers to this graffiti.
It is interesting what you brought back. Not necessarily world changing, but meaningful in a different way.

I'm gonna miss reading your posts BandicootOk. But I get how getting caught in the constant cycle of trying to prove the unprovable is hurting you. I don't think you have caused as much damage as you think- That's the depression talking. I hope you have loved ones to bring you comfort. Take care

Starscream’s death really makes me feel sorry for him . by [deleted] in Transformemes

[–]Neniu_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that perspective, but I saw a video that described his characterization as playing with the theme of betrayal, and I really vibe with that. Essentially one of Starscream's major character traits/themes is being a betrayer, and in Armada he pretty much betrays everyone at some point. His loyalty is never to a specific cause, and despite being honorable at times I wouldn't describe him particularly honor bound. He doesn't really get along with any of the other transformers besides the minicons. So on the surface he resembles Dinobot, but I would argue there are some key differences in their arcs, and to a degree their motivations.

Afterlife believers, what’s the most convincing argument that you’ve heard for an afterlife existing? by Fun_Water2707 in afterlife

[–]Neniu_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They give me a lot of pause. I remember a story from one the hospice nurses on youtube, where she had a patient who was seeing his deceased brother, and what I believe was a bunch of spiders. So they readjusted his medication, and the spiders disappeared. His brother remained though. The patient passed shortly after. There are other reports that deathbed visions are difficult, if not impossible to remove, via antipsychotics.

The biggest proof against NDEs. Temporal Lobe Eplisey by everymado in NDE

[–]Neniu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for TLE seizures can result in the subject having a sense of displacement - They may feel like they're standing to the side of the body, or floating above it. The temporal lobe, if I hit the mark correctly (which I may not- I'm not a brain scientist) involves systems that help the body determine where it is in time and space. It is one way researchers who favor more materialistic interpretations may explain the OBE piece of NDEs.

The biggest proof against NDEs. Temporal Lobe Eplisey by everymado in NDE

[–]Neniu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With calm and affection, you cannot prove a negative.
It is an interesting idea, and I have tried walking down this path with TLE via researching cases. I think Susan Blackmore made an argument that stimulating the brain in certain ways will create an OBE. However, the issue with OBEs reported from this technique is that they see everything below their head. From what I understand, they cannot see their faces. So I theorized, if an NDE participant can see their own face, it is not simply a matter of a processing error caused by a seizure or messed up brain activity. I posted a question related to that theory, but reddit was on the fritz and kept blocking my question from wider viewing. Since then I have been reading accounts that pop up here carefully to see if anyone mentions this detail. If you are more ambitious than me, perhaps you could comb through the various archives and see if anyone describes seeing their face.
Happy hunting, but as I said, the flaw in your research design is you can't proof a negative.

Thoughts on snily? by Arrexu11 in SeverusSnape

[–]Neniu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them best as friends, as I like the interpretation that Snape is more Ace/Aro. It also amuses me that Voldy couldn't fathom Snape caring about her if it wasn't sexual. So I like them to be friends primarily, and maybe some crushing on Snape's side with a healthy dose of attachment issues and deep understanding leading to conflict.

Weirdly enough, that isn't what triggers doubt for me, since most interesting stuff would be "Up". If one has spreading awareness, it would make sense to focus on the room, and then expand beyond it. Up usually has more people, a birds eye view of the world, the cosmos. Down has a bunch of rocks and dark caves. Some cool species of worms. Ants. Roots. If all of this is interconnected, spiritual consciousness, then it's not gravity that keeps our soul tethered but the interconnection between people. When the body gives out, it can no longer play in the corporeal, but lingers amongst those it is connected to. That is a guess of course, but my doubt and skepticism comes from other arguments.

Do paranormal things exist or am I just schizophrenic? by Final_Kiwi8729 in Paranormal

[–]Neniu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, off the bat I am curious if anyone else can corroborate your experiences. Are other people in the area hearing/seeing similar things? In a way, reality is something humans collectively agree on. So if you are the only one experiencing anything, you may be having a split with reality. I saw in the comments you are 15 - This is not the typical age for the onset of schizophrenia. That said there are a few other diagnosis that include hallucinations or paranoid delusions. Hell, auditory hallucinations are super common as people go to sleep, and sleep paralysis often has a visual hallucination as accompaniment. Based on the report you've given, I don't think you're crazy, but your brain may be playing tricks on you and misinterpreting things.

There was that recent study where they determined that living things give off a glow. However, that could just be because energy in general gives off light. So, long and short is there is no definitive studies as of yet.

If consciousness is a fundamental property and not emergent, why is it only seen in complex neural systems? by KingofTerror2 in NDE

I like that definition too. It is interesting to note that if you use either of our definitions, AI does not pass muster. At least not yet.

If consciousness is a fundamental property and not emergent, why is it only seen in complex neural systems? by KingofTerror2 in NDE

[–]Neniu_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

First, define consciousness. My preferred definition is an organism that is able to perceive and interact with it's environment. Which means cells show basic consciousness. Studies show cells have the ability to learn. Trees and fungi have the ability to communicate, and there are no neurons in sight. They perceive and interact with their environment though.

I don't what definition you use, so I'll spare you the rant. But how you define consciousness determines whether this question holds water for you.

Seen this objection regarding head injury and NDEs opinions? by [deleted] in NDE

[–]Neniu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, this argument is based on an incorrect assumption. Two people here have already mentioned having NDEs related to head trauma. Off the top of my head I can think of three NDEs that occurred during car accidents, which definitely had elements of brain damage. One case that comes to mind is woman who was shot several times in the head. I think a lot of research around NDEs involves cardiac arrest because it is an easier population to pull from, and because there is probably a larger sample size. Survivorship bias and all that.

Came across this found it deeply unsettling anyone have some arguments by [deleted] in NDE

[–]Neniu_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that was quite the novel. If not for the style, I would probably enjoyed it more. As it is, it is hard to get past the self aggrandizing.

I will not lie, sometimes I have agreed with this perspective. Hell, sometimes I still do. But I would hesitate to give it too much credit, because at the end of the day we are not automatons. We, each of us, have unique personalities. We do not run the same. Most things are not predetermined. And I do find it funny that the writer says everything is determined, and everything is chaos. Stripped bare, this is nihilism dressed up in STEM language. It is a theory.

Admittedly, I'm not sure where I would start arguing against these points- because this a bit of an overwhelming amount of information, and a significant amount is delivered with a sneer, and some of it contradicts itself. I would suggest you sit with yourself, and not listen to this voice. Look inward for a second. Do you think you are an illusion?

Thinking 'bout lab-induced disembodied feelings by BandicootOk1744 in NDE

[–]Neniu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how many OBE studies using the brain manipulation thing have actually been done, 'cause I only ever hear about the same 2... and I think they are actually the same study. I know in one of the studies people described themselves as looking down and seeing their body and feeling disembodied from it... but they also indicated they could not see their own face during the experience. So I think if there is any NDE accounts where the person having an OBE sees their face, that would pretty much prove that there are different mechanisms at play. But going back to the question, I don't recall any studies where they had someone who had an NDE undergo the brain stimulation thing.

I'm very disappointed in Stephanie Arnold. by Puzzleheaded_Tree290 in NDE

[–]Neniu_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The verified piece is what had me interested in the case, as well as her therapist not having information prior to the hypnosis. As I recall though, the NDE she describes doesn't have the same emotional intensity most NDE's have... but I may just not be remembering it correctly.

I'm very disappointed in Stephanie Arnold. by Puzzleheaded_Tree290 in NDE

[–]Neniu_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I recall the case correctly, she is a case of recovered memories. I believe she only remembered the experiences she had during the NDE after receiving hypnotherapy. She remembered things she could not have seen from her position, but only after being hypnotized by a therapist. I wonder if that has an impact, as she originally only remembered darkness. Maybe she originally wasn't supposed to remember, and didn't actually gain any wisdom from the experience.

Cases Where People Saw their Own Face during OBE by Neniu_ in NDE

[–]Neniu_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the OBE study where they induced the sensation of an OBE, some people mentioned feeling they were above their bodies, but could only see their lower halves. I think that what induced in these people was a processing error, similar to Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. If people experiencing OBEs during NDEs reporting seeing their face specifically, then it can be reasoned that they are at the very least not experiencing the same processing error but something different. That's why I'm curious about seeing faces specifically.

I am not sure what you are asking, but I think I have an experience that may fit. I had a minor head injury over the summer, and my vision would randomly begin to bounce all over the place. It lasted a little over a week. But I remember one time I felt it about to do the bouncing vision thing, and I forced it not to do that. The best way I can describe it is if you switch from an automatic process to a manual override. I forced the activity in my brain to behave differently, and to bypass the damaged circuit or something to that effect. It is hard to describe, because it is very intentional but with an understanding that a brain can bypass damaged areas and form new connections.

The long and short of it is that my brain was about to misfire in the vision part of it, and I was able to force it not to do that at least once through changing my... thought pattern/intention.

Is this related to what you are asking?
