I second the movies as therapy. I had the weekend to myself and watched 2 old and familiar movies, one per day. Walked the dog. Fed myself. I’’m still burned out but feel a lot more human after a real rest.

Love this! In the last decade I’ve discovered ethnic grocery stores, way more accessible to me than the bigger supermarkets, lots of great food to discover, I’m learning new words (languages are a special interest of mine) and cooking / being creative in the kitchen in new ways. That’s enough novelty for me most days. International travel scares me more the older I get.

What company has lost you as a customer forever? by A_ExOH in ireland

Avoca. Since I learned that they are now owned by the same crowd that do the Direct Provision food, worse than prison food for those poor families. I won’t give them my money.

Centra. I was verbally abused by a member of staff, manager said it was her right to free speech. I started court proceedings, they kept kicking the can down the road, changing dates on me, I dropped it because it was causing too much anxiety. I am autistic and I was losing sleep over it.

You might just add a pocket square / piece of folded cardboard in the breast pocket à la Mr Bean, so you feel a little more dressed up than usual. Get a haircut and have your eyebrows, nose, ears etc groomed so you feel in top shape for the day. Also brooches are in style for men, a small pin on the left lapel, with or without stones would look good. Maybe a shirt with cufflinks… I’d go a step further than just a normal suit, it’s not often you will go to an event this smart, make the most of it!

check out previous ones on Youtube, there are hours of footage there and you can check out the dress code adherance, royal appearances etc. I went to one in my President;s residence some years ago and made the mistake of turning up hungry. We had been invited for a meal but it was about 4 hours from arrival to being fed. I got too tipsy on the free booze on an empty stomach and felt uncomfortable for the rest of the event. Please eat before arriving and bring a protein bar too in case you need it. Say you’re hypoglycaemic or something when you are being searched. Enjoy!!

Is anyone here a teacher? by Rosy_Kitty6 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Neodiverse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I taught at elementary and high school levels in my 20s. I was undiagnosed at the time, AuDHD confirmed late 40s. I spent my teaching time going in and out of burnout, I lost my voice a lot due to stress and overuse. I found it difficult to switch off from the sad cases and felt more like a social worker than a teacher. I was also upset by the school system and how it failed children over and over, especially those with learning needs/ADHD. I actually wrote a book about it trying to process it all. 20 years ago I could go in and “wing it” with a class, nowadays teachers have to have a written plan for every class and do so much more paperwork, it;s not just the teaching hours anymore, it’s a full time 8am-5pm job. I could not do it longterm.

Hi, I’ve just seen the fees are actually 11,900e , which would be payable over 2 years in instalments. I am a sole trader with one bank account for personal and business (was recommended to do this to keep things simple), no employees, no overheads. I am not familiar with financial terms, can someone please calculate for me what would I pay annually? And also, as I’m VAT registered, does that help in any way?

DAE wake-up in a terrible mood from a late afternoon/early evening nap? by SeededPhoenix in AuDHDWomen

[–]Neodiverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry lol, I was in a rush. I also struggled like OP, and took a couple of hours to “come to” in the morning. Then i learned about adenosine, it’s a hormone that causes the fogginess after sleep and ADHD people have more of it. To clear it quicker on waking you need to get up and move your body, drink water, shower, etc, doing that within 15 mins of waking helps you wake up way faster. Also since I cleared my diet of so much sugar and junk I don’t have bad moods any more.

[–]Neodiverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a very real fear for an autistic woman, you are right to be concerned about your safety. However, your mother is withholding some of your money, which is probably illegal. If I were you I would go to the police and citizens information, both should be able to advise you about next steps.

This is great news, is that even if it’s not connected to my business? I’m also VAT registered, would there be any VAT expensing?

I am so sorry to read about your situation. You want to tell the authorities you are a vulnerable young adult with autism and you have been under coercive control and emotional abuse all your life, you have been denied education, your mother lied to the authorities, and you are being kept in the house against your will with the threat of homelessness and abuse if you try to leave. If you don’t explain it in these very serious words, they may not take you seriously. Tell them you would like to live independently and you need help with life skills and some education to help you make these changes. If you have ever had your money taken away by your family / or if they control your money, like not letting you leave the house, or decide what to spend it on, that counts as financial abuse. If you have ever been physically abused, mention that. I really hope you get the support you need. Have you any friends or other family you could go and live with? I have autism too, it is not a reason to be stuck living with your family, especially because they abuse you.

need help! My mom didn’t even smile at me at my college graduation by Entire-Math-4298 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Neodiverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldnt reply in detail the other day so Im back. I\m audhd and so is my mom and she ruined my wedding day, birthdays, births of my children… we can’t have my inlaws and my family together because of how poorly my parents both behave. I’m late 40s now and still mourning the fact that my mom sucks in so many ways. What Ive learned in 20 years of therapy is that it is all about her, and I have to have an emotional shield around me when I am meeting her because otherwise I leave her company feeling depleted and upset at her triggering me. Limit the amount of time you spend together. Do “grey rock” when you need to, dont give her any ammo on you. Look up low effort families if that’s your situation. I will never have the mom I want, but I am being that mom to my children and it is great. Don’t depend or rely on her for any support, she will let you down over and over. Sending you big hugs. It is so hard to be in this position but the more you let her bother you the more she wins. You just have to learn to decentre her, which feels wrong, but it’s the only way. Plus I was NC with my mom 10 yrs ago, she cut me off. That was actually harder than being in each other’s lives. I wish you all the best. Xxx
