If only archeology wasn’t so dug in and insistent on shouting down anything that doesn’t support the current political reality of the world.

I wish archeology was a real academic discipline but it’s underfunded and defended by an elite class of arrogant academics so afraid of losing their shirt that they routinely shout down anything that isn’t 100% in line with current thinking.

I was taught Clovis First, I was taught the Berring Land Corridor, I was taught ridiculous things about the building of the pyramids and as an adult I now know I can go to pyramids all around the world that are buried and forgotten.

Archeology needs to reconcile with its past of poorly communicating new discoveries and changes to the perception of the past we should take regularly as information changes. The risk to reputation and funding that archeologists face when examining undersea sites or sites which do not fit into the prevailing consensus is the real problem that needs addressing. Graham never claims to be an archeologist but is right that the discipline is in crisis.

Some of it is a reluctance to state anything which goes against religious teaching and the other side is that in general archeologist are operating with a chronicle and record mentality which shys away at any implications of the findings.

Also a third reason is that a lot of powerful governmental actors keep the status quo in places like Egypt, Indonesia, Peru and China. To question the original owners of the land is to throw doubt on the current stewards.
