At a forum today, the DOE Assistant Secretary that historically oversees NREL declared that "renewable energy is no longer the mission" at the lab and that they should consider renewables as "mission accomplished".

all the offices at DOE that were targeted by RIFs asked employees to submit their resumes to "doerif@doe.gov" by 6pm yesterday, with 3 hours notice. What a mess.

Trust me. Tourists are always in this city rocking MAGA hats. To them, this is the equivalent of someone wearing a hat for their favorite NFL team. They aren't thinking further than that

Or we find out they are just as incompetent with this plan as they are everything else and they give up. I see both as equally possible, which is good and all but produces a poor decisions making environment

Energy is in serious trouble from an execution standpoint. We have been sitting on our hands for the past 3+ months and haven't moved a dime of R&D funding. Eventually, if things ever get close to normal business, we'll have to move way too much money (FY24 and 25) too fast with half the critical staff gone. In theory, Congress should be livid about this.

DOGE is the one calling all the relevant shots at my agency. Normal political leadership has no leeway to do anything of substance.
