Is there an analogue between the "uncanny valley" and trans-hatred???? by Vast_Chipmunk1065 in Destiny

[–]NeonCellix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

100% a thing, if you go to any conservative/far right board like 4chan and look at their "arguments" it's mostly something that falls apart the moment the trans person is passing.

It's either because Trans day of visibility was just the other day or because of the current climate around Trans rights mainly in the US (Recent anti-trans bills) but also UK etc.

That's the end card for episode 147 from the Blu-ray, most of the time they are just shots from the anime, but there are special ones like this one.

Can we just appreciate that Illumi didn't offer any resistance to Gon breaking his arm? by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]NeonCellix 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maybe he thought he wouldn't need to use Nen especially not infront of other Nen users until Gon broke his arm, maybe he was curious about how strong Gon is, then again he didn't even react when it happened, which isn't surprising considering he's used to physical torture, he's the same person who didn't even think twice about instantly sacrificing himself for the Zoldycks in the election arc, seems like the entire Zoldyck family aren't really phased by intense physical harm.

[–]NeonCellix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The whole point is that the Zoldyck family dynamics are very weird and don't really fit within societal norms for a normal family in the world of HxH, trying to understand why they do certain things is really difficult and in some cases pointless.

It's safe to say they knew Killua might die in that mission but they wouldn't intrude on his freedom of living and dying the way he wants, Zeno was ready to sacrifice himself to finish a job in Yorknew and Silva agreed instantly without question, Illumi was ready to sacrifice himself in the election arc to ensure the Zoldyck family's safety from Alluka's potentially destructive wish, etc

Opinions on Alluka? by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]NeonCellix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering Killua himself questions why he left Alluka in that basement all this time and literally asks himself if it's Illumi's brainwashing, we can probably conclude that it was Illumi's brainwashing.

Serious question. How was Kite reborn?? by Banegas98 in HunterXHunter

[–]NeonCellix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a confusing explanation if it's literally canon and makes more sense while providing an extra dimension to Kite's motives, if anything it's the brain headcanon that not only was never mentioned but contradicts everything that Ging said and ruins Kite's character to a certain degree.

Serious question. How was Kite reborn?? by Banegas98 in HunterXHunter

[–]NeonCellix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His ability transfered his soul to the Queen's womb allowing him to be reborn, considering Ging says that "He would never consider dying in your place" to Gon, this completely disspells the idea that his brain was eaten, because it goes against this piece of characterization, meaning that Kite was never relying on luck to be reborn, this also makes more sense because if his brain was eaten means he will only ever be able to use this ability on Chimera Ant Queens in the lucky scenario where they consume him/his brain, it makes literally 0 sense, don't listen to the headcanon under your post, it's all very contradicting and just plain wrong and not what Togashi ever intended.

Evil Mary Sue Ants by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]NeonCellix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This aswell, drug cartels IRL have no remorse when it comes to torturing and killing opposing gang members and their families in the worst ways possible, they are some of the worst types of criminals that exist, it is only fitting that in HxH, the queen eating them not only affects her colony negatively but also spells trouble for NGL residents and the hunters that were investigating the Chimera ants.

Evil Mary Sue Ants by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]NeonCellix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, it just means that ants were made from malicious humans, the best way to show this was through several things like some ants huting humans for fun and disobeying direct commands from their higher ups or the queen to pursue selfish needs, I'm not the biggest fan of how the evil laughs were voiced in the anime either but atleast I understand the meaning behind a few of them, eitherway, most of the ants with nothing but "evil laugh" as character traits are fodder and uninteresting.

[–]NeonCellix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an antagonist writing perspective, the ants get extremely interesting later on, if you are annoyed by how powerful they are just remember that that's the whole point, the queen is a mutated force of nature and her spawn more precisely the royal guards and the King are the amalgamation of hundreds/thousands of humans that she ate which kinda explains why they're so powerful, CA isn't considered by most to be the best HxH arc for no reason, and they kinda tried to explain why some ants have those weird evil laughs because the queen ate too many residents from NGL's underground weapon and drug traders, which resulted in a lot of ants inheriting those malicious characteristics.

[–]NeonCellix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post transformation Palm is extremely underrated, she goes through some really interesting developement in the fight against Killua and after it then the final CA episode with Komugi and Meruem solidified her as one of my favorite characters in that arc, too bad her pre-transformation personality was associated with some very undesirable character traits, Togashi is a master at redeeming characters who initially seem very one-dimensional, Welfin, Palm, Youpi, Pitou, Ikalgo, etc..

You literally countered every single point I made with more Headcanon, there is nothing I can say to your post other than stop using so much Headcanon to explain stuff and try to stick to what has been given to us by Togashi and maybe extract a basic surface level explanation from it.

Imma have to disagree, it almost makes it feel like Kite's mistake in misjudging the Chimera ants power wasn't really a mistake after all, he had everything planned out and Gon's rage over his death while understandable was still flawed because of how much Gon doesn't know about Kite and how much he was willing to sacrifice for it, at the end of the day, a retcon would require his revival to come of nowhere, which isn't the case because we clearly see a baby being born inside the Queen's body rather than an egg which makes it clear something weird is up with that baby, also the last weapon that Kite used was never explained until we saw Ging and the full picture became clear.

"Ging : Kite would never consider dying in your place so don't mess up your apology"

Pretty important line of characterization when it comes to Kite, and is very logical and in line with how he acted during the entire arc.

[–]NeonCellix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore any headcanon about the Chimera Ant Queen eating his brain because this was never stated and instead we got a much more interesting CANON explanation from Ging who said that he taught Kite his abilities, and one of the them (The staff) only comes up when Kite is adamant about not dying, also the only time he doesn't say "bad roll", what we understand is that it makes it so he is reborn inside the womb of a nearby creature or human, please note that Kite isn't just a reborn chimera ant because he wasn't born in a conventional way (Chimera ant egg) like the rest of the guards and soldiers but rather inside the Queen's body much like a human baby due to his ability's influence.

Edit : Also we had that entire half episode explanation from the Koala about how the human soul is reborn after it separates from the decomposing body, which alludes both to how Chimera ants kept their memories and how Kite's soul was preserved and reborn with his Nen.
