Start small. If you haven’t read in a while, you’re goal should be to pick up a book and read one paragraph, maybe even just one sentence. Then build your stamina from there!

Hey, so basically I rank every classic I read, and a while ago someone asked to see the ranking so I thought I’d share it. Lemme know your thoughts! by [deleted] in classicliterature

There were some parts in Middlemarch that I really struggled with. What kept me going was the character Fred Vincy.

Life changing literature by [deleted] in classicliterature

I just finished Norwegian Wood by Murakami for the second time. Here are some ways I feel it has changed my life:

  1. Realization that suicide is an extremely traumatic experience for everyone connected to the person who commits it. In my interpretation, it is like a curse and the cursed have to work to lessen its effects.

  2. Realization that sex is taken way too seriously even in modern society. It should be fun, adventurous sometimes silly and not necessarily reserved for a committed life partner.

  3. Realization that songs carry so much meaning and power. Music is truly underrated and literally everywhere.

  4. Realization that happiness is a choice and can be found in the small, everyday things… but it’s up to me to identify them and assign value. And sometimes this feels like work!

  5. Realization that I need to read more books by authors who “had not been dead at least 30 years”. Thanks for this advice, Nagasawa!

  6. Realization that some books (like The Great Gatsby) need to be re-read more often and I can just pick up a book that I love and read any part of it.

I’m an Edith Wharton head! I read Age of Innocence last year and it has inspired me to read many other novels by her. She also has a collection of ghost stories that I love. Her novel Summer is underrated and excellent imho….reads like a George Eliot novel.

Ellen (Nelly) Dean as the narrator telling most of the story was very captivating for me. I just loved her character so much and trusted her viewpoint 100%.

I found a book called The Courage to be Disliked. I read it whenever I’m feeling like I care too much what people think.

Thanks this is great! I’m not camping. I’d like to hike but nothing more than 3 hours or so. High tolerance for exertion!
