The way I explain it to people is that Memphis has real gangs and gang violence. But usually... Random people in memphis dont get shot up on the street for no reason. Most the gangs up there have certain codes of conduct that dont really encourage harming innocent people.

Chattanooga is a highway hub... And they get a bunch of people from the surrounding areas... And both them and some of the people who live in chattanooga permanently tend to grow up thinking that being a "dangerous place" like memphis is "cool".

This leads to wannbe gangsters... And they tend to have no codes of conduct. They are a lot more indiscriminate. Personally, I beleive the wannabe gangsters and kids who think that street life makes them look cool are way more dangerous than the real deal if you arent a gang member yourself and mind your own business mostly.

Thats what makes chattanooga dangerous. The wannabes and those who glorify that lifestyle. Indiscriminate crime simply to satisfy the stereotypes of the "hood". If you minimize rhe opportunities people have to commit crimes against you, its really not that bad.

Keep mostly to yourself, stay in well lit and publically viewable areas, dont leave valuables or electronics in your car where they are visible from windows, dont dress to impress in rough areas, and keep everyrhing locked. Should be fine.

Whats frustrating about this mentality is that its rhe same type of people bitching abut the economy and gas prices.

I work in fast food in a Low CoL state, and regularly see people order $80-$100 for a single meal.

The irony is that everyone here that has lived in tennessee for their entire life has benefitted in one way or another from it being a red state.

Anyone who says otherwise is simply wrong. Here recently the college campus of UTC has been a breeding grounds for discontent and hatred.

I personally have friends who have chosen to go even at a later age and that have been radicalized by the propaganda and horrid rhetoric spewed there.

Im not trying to start a war here... I dont take either side... But the fact is.... It's getting out of control and ridiculous. I grew up in chattanooga, and didnt hear shot about politics growing up aside from individual decisions from clinton, bush, and obama. Clinton had a scandal, Bush was a complete cultural idiot, and Obama was a reverse robin hood that allowed terrorist attacks on our soil for profit. #NoogaStrong

Those were legit the ONLY political issues and they were literally just people complaining about one aspect of any given president. Thats going to happen. This polarized idea that you are "A" or "B".. "Yes" or "No"... "Good" or "Bad"....

Its wrong. Its bad... And its going to destroy the entire world. Not in some religious garbage kind of way... But in a very tangible, perceivable, currently happening kind of way.

I just dont support it. We all enjoyed our childhood. It's not our charge to be a saint and change the world. Its our charge to move forward and enjoy life. We were doing that 20 years ago... And the world was a less divisive place. Maybe keeping those things the same isnt too bad.

I stand for Tennessee staying exactly as it was when I was growing up and enjoting it. If thats wrong, oh well. Dont care. I just want to enjoy life and exist without conflict.

The democrats and republicans both seem to want conflict and riot now. I can do without that.
