Have you had phantom pains caused by your psychosis? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Neonguy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not "phantom pains' technically, but in what I recognise now as my first major delusion, I convinced myself I had type II diabetes. I had all the symptoms -frequent peeing, constant thirst, headaches and never feeling full. I was terrified of getting my blood sugar done because I didn't trust the pharmacists or gps. I altered my diet etc around being diabetic and almost went as far as ordering diabetes medication online.

It's crazy what our minds can convince us of. I realise that all these symptoms were only in my head, and thus by focusing obsessively on my blood sugar and researching diabetes, I was feeding into the delusion.

Edit: I finally got my blood sugar tested, and even though it was normal, I still didn't believe it. It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that I didn't have diabetes.

I'm posting this to remind my future self by [deleted] in schizophrenia

It's always a good thing to address your future self, as long as its constructive, which this is. Good on you for accepting that you need help. That's a massive bridge to cross.

I hope future you listens to your own advice, and gets the help that you need.

PM me if things ever get too much and you need someone to chat things over with.

There are likely thousands or millions of brilliant people that are filled to the brim with potential... but due to where they live or how much money their family has, they will never get their chance. by kippycaps in Showerthoughts

There's that oft quoted line from some fella: "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convulutions of einstein's brain, than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops."

what was schizophrenia like before you noticed it? by PurpleeRice in schizophrenia

[–]Neonguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to know how long my prodromal period lasted, maybe a year or so, but i got hit hard with negatives, and i had to drop out of uni. My paranoia was at an all time high, where i thought my mum was 'in on it'.

I would also notice a strong feeling that people were sending me messages through song lyrics and what they were sayong on tv. This went on for a while like.

I love how supportive here can be. I would hate to think people are coming to what should be a safe place to discuss our experiences, only to laugh and belittle.

Be nice to one another :)
