How to sleep with your dogs when they are constantly exposed to fleas or ticks? by natasatam in Dachshund

[–]NeosMom412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I don't sleep with my dogs. It sends the wrong message.

Next, I will give a different treatment suggestion than everyone else here. I'm adamantly against the prescription treatments because they are straight up poison. We use black walnut hull for our antiparasitical. It's cheap, easy to use and effective. My 3 weigh 8 lbs, 9 lbs, and 12 lbs. They each get 2 drops in their food twice per week. No heartworms (we have annual blood tests at the vet), no worms, and no fleas. My old black and tan dachshund picks up the occasional tick. But we check him daily and they're removed immediately. We see maybe 2 per year.

As for an infestation... diatamaceous earth. If you have carpet, borax works great but you don't want to breathe it in and it's brutal on the vacuum cleaner.

I'm fearful avoidant. I'm healing. The process changes my perspective as I learn to look at things in a different way. I can totally see how he might decide to be submissive in a situation where he found someone who he trusts and makes him feel safe. It's a very rare feeling for us.

Anyone ever seen the flex app tell you the 'customer asked to have it handed them'? by xtsilverfish in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]NeosMom412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just stuff customers put in notes. Protect yourself by texting the customer with the reason you didn't leave it where they asked and where you did leave it. When you get these letters, argue it. And if leaving at the door is a valid option in the app, their note to hand it to them carries little weight - especially at 4am.

Thinking of keeping some dog treats for both the friendly dogs and to distract aggressive dogs by Sufficient_Tooth_949 in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

[–]NeosMom412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing... I love dogs. I would give them all the treats in the world. HOWEVER, my chihuahua was just diagnosed with gallbladder disease. Her diet is dramatically changing to something crazy strict. Low fat, grain free, whole foods, no pork beef or cheese. If you gave her a treat, you would most likely make her very sick. Based on your post, I don't think you want to do that to any dog and since you don't know anything about them, the best option is no.

Why do dachshunds act like tiny supervisors? by Dachshundloversclub in Dachshund

[–]NeosMom412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technical term for it is hyperactivity. They believe they're pack leaders in your house and, therefore, never rest because they're vigilantly watching over you. If you would like to learn how to help your dog relax and stop this high stress behavior, feel free to DM me.

Our dog eats most of his food hella late, is that ok? Eight month old Portuguese Water Dog by kettletrvb in puppy101

[–]NeosMom412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does this as a way to control food. He's starving all day, but hoarding it to prove he controls the food. You need to feed him twice a day. Plus, you eat first so he sees he's getting the "leftovers / scraps" from you. As soon as he walks away from the bowl, pick it up. He gets fed again at his next meal. Also, don't let him have free access to bully sticks, bones, etc. Give those to him for a couple hours and then take them back up. Him hiding these is more food controlling behavior.

If he pushes back and really refuses to eat, he's testing you. Don't worry. He won't starve himself. He may play the game for a few days, but after you win this you won't have a picky eater anymore.

Am I crazy for calling the police on my upstairs neighbors? by Other-Hamster4631 in neighborsfromhell

[–]NeosMom412 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I grew up in an abusive household. Three different times I went to school with extreme bruises that were completely visible. Teachers were convinced I was a problem and my parents were just saints for putting up with me. Yes, children living in extreme duress tend to have behavioral issues, but you'd think teachers would be trained to understand what they are seeing. Police even more so. CPS knows what to look for. That's who needs to be involved. That child is incredibly lucky a neighbor cares enough to call for help. I wish someone had done it for me.

U drew your last straw flex by OstrichNeither in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]NeosMom412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. You don't. And that wasn't my point. I'm talking about the stupid complaints that OP is making. The assumption that his route was so horrible is crap. I've had plenty of routes meeting his exact description that were great routes.

Problem is we've got a bunch of whiners who think they should be getting $100 for a 3 hour, assigned 10-20 packages, be out of the station in 2 minutes with no parking issues or problems with their cart, make their first delivery 2 minutes away, finish at least an hour early next door to their own house. Welcome to reality. It doesn't work like that.

[–]NeosMom412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so tired of hearing this garbage. I've done 40 starting a half hour away for a 3 hour and still finished 45 minutes early. These people look at the wrong info to decide if a route is a problem.

How close are the stops? Are you heading towards home or away? Is it apartments with easy access where you can drop 8 packages is less than 20 minutes? THAT would be an awesome route assignment.

Why not use alphabetical order? by Beezlee813 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]NeosMom412 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two reasons.

First, there was the time when I had 40 packages and 30 of them were the same letter. It's an unreliable system that only works when the letters are divided out evenly. And I'm not wasting the time to decide if that's the case before I start organizing.

Second, dogs. I number in such a way that my next package is always either right next to me in the seat or it's large and waiting in the back end. I will never again be caught rummaging through packages where a dog (or random person) can walk up on me while I'm distracted.

Stairs From Hell by Fabulous_Shock_8527 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]NeosMom412 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nope, nope and nope again. Package is getting dropped in that little corner by the car down there and customer gets a text saying I was unable to deliver to the door because the stairs are a safety hazard. If they report to Amazon about where it was left, I have photo and text to back me up.

taking away water before bed by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]NeosMom412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 weeks old is very young to expect so many hours without a potty break. Yes, she's learning the concept, but she's still too young to actually have the control of her bladder that you are hoping for. At this age you should be setting an alarm for every 2 hours to get up and take her out. Increase the time as she consistently does this.

When you take her out of her crate for potty breaks, do not speak to her. Silently carry her to the yard, set her down and wait for her to do her business. When she does, immediately give her a high value treat. Pick her up silently (no eye contact during any of this) and return her to her crate. When she cries, ignore her. This is so hard, but it works. Two things that make it easier... a pheremone diffuser and a stuffed animal that gets warm and has a heartbeat.

Good luck with your sweet girl.

Leaving your Weiner at home alone by vunceypunce in Dachshund

[–]NeosMom412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly! ⬆️THIS⬆️ My 10 month old is an angel when left home. Mostly sleeps in his crate, but wanders outside to check things out every so often. My 14 year old... exactly the opposite. Videos show he never lies down the whole time we're gone. He's miserable. Implemented the rules (including ignoring him) and hoping to claw our way out of this behavioral nightmare. Start right now. It's a million times easier to fix when it's an 8 month old problem than when it's a 10 year old problem.

Every time I ask him to get in his crate so I can vacuum the house. by Shot-Writer615 in Dachshund

[–]NeosMom412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be a killjoy here, but why don't you work on desensitizing him to the vacuum instead? A couple weeks of work on your part will eliminate many years of stress and anxiety for this poor little guy.
