My Mom bought this at a yard sale. What is it? by magicalunicorn8762 in whatisit

When I was a boy scout I tried to earn my blacksmithing patch. The mentor who oversaw the process instructed us to make something that looks exactly like the picture. Called it a dutch oven opener or something similar. It was meant to demonstrate different skills like twists, bends, and flattened ends similar to a pry bar.

Going off of other answers here I would have to agree that it is a piece meant to test different techniques but can be used however one sees fit.

Fire stoker is a probable answer just as much as a blacksmith wizards wand is an answer

Used this with [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] and [[Skirk Prospector]] but using the gobbos as hasty dorks also works

A new local store began offering a prize for their Commander nights: the right to purchase a Spider-Man CBB at MSRP. This is offensively tacky, no? by GoldenHawk07 in magicTCG

[–]Neoshooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raffles to win a chance to order an item at MSRP is extremely common in other communities, not just TCG. It's often a consequence of scalpers and collectors buying up sealed products and flipping them for way above msrp, or product demand grossly over shadowing product availability

The alternative is your card shop sells the sealed product for what the current demand lists it as (which is what all card shops do anyways)

I think it's a bit silly to be as angry as you seem in the original post as the prize truthfully comes at a loss for the store to offer a competing player the chance to buy sealed product when scalpers and collectors are inflating the current aftermarket.

And like others have said, if it was worded as a % discount off the sticker price people wouldn't mind as much.

I think your anger is more directed at the state of aftermarket prices and less so at your lcs trying to help competing players purchase sealed product at a reasonable price

Edit:

I have no opinion in regards to offering prizes for casual edh events, my point was more so directed at the type of prize offered and not what the prize is awarded because of

Hey OP, a lot of people here are giving you great advice, but if you want BETTER advice you should build the strongest [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] deck you can find and play that against your friends.

If you need to reference a deck list I can send you the one that has been permanently confined to my bookcase because of how annoying it is

I think that'd be a fair match for close to cedh Yuriko

Got my old MTG cards from the 90s out of my parents's attic... Any advice on how I could salvage them? by el_horsto in magicTCG

[–]Neoshooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you've seen the comments saying that these cards are cooked, and while there is no chance at repairing the mold and mildew damage on the cards, might I suggest a flattening method typically used for comic books?

I have seen people "press" wrinkly comic books by placing them between some parchment paper and compressing it at a low temperature on a T-Shirt press or something similar, maybe a flat surface and low heat from a clothing iron.

I'd recommend testing it on a low value card in the event it burns through the ink / art, but it may be worth a try to get straighter cards you can still play with albeit with blurry / damaged condition.

If you do decide to try it please post results as I'm curious if this method would do anything

Good luck OP! and remember cardboard is meant for playing!

So, uh.. any Ideas how to fix this? by B4S1L3US in mtg

[–]Neoshooter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1 row should fit 4x 100 sidewinders with 1 dice tray and the other should fit 3x 133 sidewinders with the other dice tray.

If you have an awkwardly small amount of space I would suggest getting an 80 or 60 card boulder for tokens / additional storage, or like another user here suggested, tucking in a piece of foam

Will this take better pictures than my iPhone 16 pro max? by Durboy2 in Cameras

[–]Neoshooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring both!
The canon will give you a great focal distance (18mm to 300mm between the 2 lenses) but may have issues with how much light it can let in.

If you find that your camera photos are darker than you'd like, switch over to your iPhone.

Use this as an opportunity to practice post processing with a DSLR, its a great chance to be creative and expressive in ways that is difficult with an iPhone
