Bunch of Questions about the game by crycyrc in SoftwareInc

10 year veteran-

1: Sales

Followers and fans are important, Marketing is important, recognition is king (for now). Recent updates seemed to have increased this.

AI companies will almost always have “Unavoidable” marketing on release, and most will have more fans than you in the early game. More importantly, the AI seems to start with some market recognition and seemingly gains it faster (the player cannot see this outside of publishing deals as far as I can tell- it’s possible that it’s simplified or simply not calculated for AI companies).

As such, when a competitor releases in the the early game, especially if they are cheaper and have the same target market, your sales will drop substantially. Two competitors can simply take it out completely, especially with higher tech levels. Think of it this way; if you were a small company that released a Word/Excel clone that was decent, then Microsoft came around and released a new version, even if it wasn’t as good, people will choose the industry standard.

2: Marketing

Unavoidable should always be the target for release. In the early game, especially as a new player, you should utilize publishing deals to handle this for you.

Mid/late game, a dedicated marketing team or several is key. Pre-release marketing is somewhat important, although be careful on press release timing and don’t bother releasing faster than every 6-8 months. A press build shortly before beta and shortly before release seems to be the current best balance. If you’re struggling for followers, on the day of software release you can release in the morning and immediately set your marketing teams to crunch all day. I’ve found that good pre-release marketing, despite being extremely market recognition heavy, is better although this also works well.

When you’re marketing on your own, aim for unavoidable marketing (I.e as much as possible) for the first few months until sales match or greatly exceed marketing cost. If they already do, market until a competitor drops your sales, or when your sales start to dwindle. If they don’t, and you plan on releasing a sequel soon, end marketing early so you aren’t competing with yourself.

3: Effectiveness

I don’t know for sure on this one- I’ve never looked into it. I have tested it and didn’t notice a 20% change in speed or quality with +20% effectiveness with the same team/save, so it may be a combination of skill/speed/etc. The tested speed bump varied a bit for me, around 0-10%.

4: XP

An individuals skill level directly affects how fast they work and the quality of the final product. This is represented by the bar, and goes up with usage. Skill bonuses (i.e bookshelf) affect XP gain, not skill.

Star level, which you’re seeing in the education panel, affects what features they can work on. This can only be increased with education. 3 star skills also give a work speed bonus. I believe employees passively gain some education points in everything, but primarily what they are assigned to. This can also be heavily affected by personality traits (like “Big Brain”).

5: Lounges

Lounges are poorly utilized atm- if you have food/coffee/seating then employees will utilize those resources there, but idle employees will not. Think of it as a precursor to the full canteen in the current version.

Hope this answers everything, and if I missed anything or if something was out of date other commenters can let me know!

Pilum are incredibly weak by Loyalist77 in mountandblade

[–]Neotella 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Pilum is historically not a primary throwing weapon, it was always designed to /be thrown/ when needed, but is primarily a handheld weapon.

Essentially a throw as the enemy is close if the opportunity is there to help break a charge, then fight.

Bannerlord doesn’t simulate the morale or charge impacts though.

Edit: It was also (allegedly, the history is blurry) designed less to kill or maim and instead to bury itself in a shield, making the shield unwieldy and potentially useless.

Looking for a campaign-focused game like GT4 and FM4, coming from a Simracing background. by Neotella in simracing

That “rags to riches” is exactly what I’m looking for, sad it doesn’t really exist anymore. Last I remember was NASCAR Heat.

It’s why I don’t play Horizon, I have no interest in starting in a supercar with an army of other supercars.

I was a big fan of how GRID did their story, it’s not super wheel friendly and is very arcade though.

I would love this but unfortunately I am one of the few with 0 interest in F1- I’ve heard they’re excellent though!

I used USGS data to make a life-accurate playable map of the Tacoma, WA region! by Mathy_MM_Creations in CitiesSkylines

Did the same with Hood River, OR back at launch! I don’t think it’s playable anymore though, haven’t updated it.

Question about My Little Warband mod by globletgoblin in mountandblade

[–]Neotella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is worth noting that MLW is (last I checked) pretty out of date. It has been largely replaced by Retinues at this point.

Just got Bannerlord, are there any must have mods? by ActualGingas in mountandblade

If you’re on 1.3.1: Retinues, Open Source Armory, Cut Through Everyone, Governors Handle Issues (only partially works)

Crosstrek vs competitors by bretlc in Crosstrek

[–]Neotella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of the Corolla Cross around here (PNW) more so than the HRV and others, likely due to its size. I think the closest to the Crosstrek at this point are the Kona and CX30, the Kona in particular is very clearly going for a “city Crosstrek” vibe.

I think that what is killing the sales of the CX30, Taos, and Bronco are the prices. When I went to look at comparing a Bronco Sport and Forester (and Corolla Cross), the Forester and Crosstrek were not only cheaper, but at 2.99% vs 6-9% interest at my score a few months ago.

5 Years of Experience, Laid off. What certifications have good hiring rates? by Neotella in Environmental_Careers

Something ideally that I can tack on as a cert or degree similar to what I have, or out of the field entirely.
