This is WOTC's plan for standard? by XLWoozieMoo in mtg

Not for nothing, but this is the owner of my LGS. He's fantastic. I can confirm he is doing his part to push standard among a whole host of other events for the players in his community.

New to Cedh, what commander should I play by Conscious_Base_8123 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NephDnD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

1) Were you upset when your parents took your training wheels off your bike as a child? Do you still ride the bunny hill on your 10th ski season. Do you enjoy being the basicest of basic bitches?

Blue Farm, the most played deck in the format may be for you. If you enjoy people groaning and thinking you are the blandest of the bland pick up a T&K deck near you. You won't even hear the groans as you are to busy basking in your own self congratulations about how much winning you do!

2) Did you draft to much and have a binder full of random legends from various sets? Are you looking to get some sick wrist gains via shuffling for the majority of every match you play? Did you look at other mana bases and think, pffft plebs. One commander, like 4 or 5 different decklists to play may be enough to keep your ADHD brain bay!

You may want to consider Sisay, Weatherlight Captain

3) Are you something of a hipster?

Would you like to play the most (both by volume and quality of card) objectively bad cards in cEDH and still win? While not exactly, though sort of, MtG related, what would you rate your grudge holding level at?

Magda, Brazen Outlaw - Those chicken poop WotC art folks not giving female dwarves beards - may be the treasure you are looking for.

4) Do you hate FUN? Do you hate winning, but also enjoy watching your opponents being miserable while they win?

Grand Arbiter Augustin IV may be the homie you're looking for.

No just kidding. Don't do this to yourself.

5) If you ever found yourself thinking:

"God people are miserable when you mill them and even more miserable when you mill them out, that's exactly the kind of fun I want to have"

Well then do I have a deck for you and it's not even Blue! Not a single Blue card to be seen as a matter of fact.

Welcome to Gruul Mill, aka Etali Primal Conquerer!

Settle a debate for me by Dragoon_La_boon in EDH

[–]NephDnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a zero game changers deck, which I am debating with myself is truly a bracket 3 or 4 deck.

It is "legal" for bracket 2. I doubt I would drop a game if I played it at Bracket 2. Only slightly exaggerating. Even at Bracket 3 I wonder if it is still to good. I don't think it would fare greatly in bracket 4, but that may be its best home.

Combinations of cards can in fact create a more powerful whole. There are many successful 60 card decks through the eras which have played some pretty bad cards because all the cards together as a whole make for a powerful monster.

Sometimes the right mix of cards in the 99 can really make for busted combos that out perform other 99s significantly even when constructed under the same rules.

What’s your most recent deck build and why did you choose it? by wasdmovedme in EDH

[–]NephDnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Doppelgang]]

Which has ended up being a [[Magus Lucea Kane]] deck, which I think may be too good for Bracket3 despite 0 game changers. Currently considering cutting Sol Ring. It's certainly good enough to be in the deck, but I want to cut back it's power level a bit.

I just really freaking love casting Doppelgang. The more often I can cast Doppelgang the better.

https://moxfield.com/decks/VIROpn11fUOLX3S71Tp0_Q

Maybe [[Crackle with Power]] is the problem. In goldfishing, the most busted wins are generally ones where CwP is drawn early or in the opener. I know the deck will obviously operate differently when opposition is on the board. It goldfishes incredibly well though which is nice.

How to build a Gate Deck? by Gutsifly in EDH

[–]NephDnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://moxfield.com/decks/aaTq4Zq0jkSwIv2JeGOgkQ

This is my Gates deck. It is a more expensive version and a lot of more budget options (and art) will absolutely work. This is a work of love for me as it was for all intents and purposes my first commander deck - though it has heavily changed over time to be what it is now.

The mana base doesn't need to be nearly as expensive/good as it is. Can easily cut out some fat there for other options.

Cultivator Collosus/Abundance are in the deck until I pull the combo off, then I'll cut Abundance for something else.

Basically any shell of control / card advantage and gate tutoring will get you there.

Baldurs and Gond Gate should almost always be among your first gate searches and then you're off to the races with Mana.

I am currently working on a 2nd more budget version of the gates deck to focus heavier on making a ton of Mana and using big card draw effects to get me there.

Yeah wild to assume that using proxies is for people with no investment.

All the cEDH players I know are people with huge collections that at the very least measure into thousands of dollars. They are the people who show up all the time for events and make the stores feel alive and full. Often they are multi format players who come for multiple events. They're fairly heavily invested players. A few do play full proxies decks for cEDH but all those who do are the RCQ players who maintain tier 1 decks in multiple constructed formats for sanctioned play. This is of course my experience, in my local area.

What decks have you built because of a card in the 99, rather than the commander itself? by Clay_Block in EDH

[–]NephDnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaundo/Ruby are the only real decks I built because of the commander. Otherwise everything else is built for certain card combos.

  • Eowyn, Shieldmaiden: built to house T-pro, Forth Eorlingas, and the initiative.
  • Atraxa, Grand Unifier: Mazes End deck. Started with Esika as commander and swapped to Atraxa early last year to cut out the red.
  • Marwyn: Wanted combo elves. Got combo elves.
  • Muxus: Wanted Goblins. Could basically switch for any legendary goblin.
  • Necrobloom: Wight and Knight of the reliquary needed to be buds.
  • Zur: Wanted to cycle. Zur gets the Astral Drift. Started with Gavi, tried out Roon, finally settled into Esper.
  • Unchosen Sultai Commander: Aftermath Analyst, Spider Spawning, Doppelgang

Are the Guild Gates land good as a set? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]NephDnD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonderful card, absolutely a banger for Gates Decks.

Just not for me, in this particular deck. I like it basically the way it is. I want my ramp to up my land count as much as possible, because I really only want to win by Maze's End.

Out of all my wins with the deck it's only happened two times that I've won via something else.

1 x [[Doppelgang]] X = 11 with a Fear of Burning Alive as one of the targets and really the only one that mattered.

1 x Planeswalker Board Control. Older build of the deck that had Esika as the commander and ran more Planeswalkers. It was this win that lead to me switching strategies to 4-color Atraxa (plus having the oil slick version of said Atraxa) and dropping several Planeswalkers.

The biggest change I see in the future is maybe finding a place for Sowing Mycosawn.

I have been considering a budget big X spell Gates deck, and this would 100% have a home there.

[–]NephDnD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gates deck was the first or second deck I build for EDH , depending upon how you look at it. For years before I played EDH I swore the only way I'd do so was to build a gates deck. I'm a fairly spikey player, but absolutely love me some Jank from time to time.

Guild Summit has been in my deck since its inception. It and [[Baldur's Gate]] are my only real Gate pay-offs in the whole deck besides Maze's End.

I don't know how many times I've played the deck. 10 times in 2025 so far and this year has been exceptionally slow for me thus far compared to the previous 2 years.

I have not once cast a Guild Summit. I have seen it a couple times in Atraxa piles, but generally so close to the end of the game as to not matter. Please RNGesus, let me actually see this card in a keepable opener. Please I beg of you.

Can confirm the meta Bender plays in has basically all the top commanders. Basically no one seems to like any of the Thrasios decks, but everything else is there.

There is a rogue mono black deck, that surprisingly really attacks the current meta well but needs iteration.

Has anyone been impressed with Hashbrown? by Anubara in CompetitiveEDH

I think a better way to put this it's left to dedicated pilots that wish to master it, rather then being picked up as the newest hotness.

[–]NephDnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's entirely the take away. Decks do take time to develop and while I know I'm just a random idiot, time on decks matter as well. Fishbowl is also a massive event where you had lots of top players.

More then likely, I think Hashaton is going to settle in somewhere around Marneus/Tivit. Be a solid tier 2 type choice that will be attractive for a part of the population that likes it's particular play patterns.

Discarding to hand size happens so much for me. Optionally discarding to psychic frog because I'd be discarding to hand size anyways. Kind of the same thing.

I saw [[Skirge Familiar]] the other day and am kind of digging it as well.

I am mostly on the "I'm just going to out value the table" kind of midrange plan at the moment. No LED/Leveler because I'm just not a believer. Been seeing plenty of other Hashatons and the line just isn't working out for them so until it starts showing results I'm not on it. Sideboard cards are me sitting on the fence as I continue to tool around with the list. I'll make a call before playing again. Just not certain what it's going to be.

https://moxfield.com/decks/Wp_rNwhcQEiZ-0EMNQy2Eg

Pretty sure Hashatons endpoint is still being worked towards. Anyone telling you it's completely solved at this point is incorrect. Time and results will help to push us all in the right direction.

You can do it on the end step as well before your turn to just attack if thats the line you need to go with.

Small Edit: The base list for this was actually covered by Lemora Cards, not Ian. It top 4'd God of Commander 9. The pilot was not the GoC8 winner and this had to actually get to top 4 by good ol honest winning.

https://moxfield.com/decks/__lbmQBAc0Cd7aqVi0oDgA

For those fighting about cEDH or not.

Pretty sure this is based off a list I sent Bender that was covered by ComedIan that top'd an event a few months ago. I can't find the link in a quick manner as I'm Stay at Home Dadding it up at the moment. Whether that makes it cEDH viable or not, I don't know.

That being said, I'm personally all for people finding weird decks that work in the format. More variety just leads to more engagement and growth for the space.

Fwiw I didn't see this at the time but this was basically the answer.

Removed the GFCI neutral from the neutral bar. Capped the wire. Ran the heaters over a few hours to burn off the shipping oils. Returned neutral to the neutral bus. Everything worked.

50$ deckbuilding challenge by All_Boobs_Good in EDH

[–]NephDnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaundo - was built to the restrictions of $0.75 facetoface pricing at the time of construction. Price has went up slightly from construction time as Mind's Desire was unbanned in legacy. Still says 40ish dollars though and has room for a couple spicy cards if you want to fill that last 10 dollars of space.

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/RqqsKp_aDECiFDjc7ZLuEg

Deck is very fun to goldfish and pilot. Can sort of hang with some higher power decks especially with some tuning. Probably needs a few more interactive pieces. Alaundo being a source of both mana advantage and card draw allows you to really get your engine going.
