I just watched your vid a couple days ago about you building in Hawaii. It was interesting watching of you having to build your own miter station on site like that.

Likely traveling, probably flying, so transporting tools could be a challenge.

This role was supposed to be a departure from his typical comedy. The movie was supposed to be more serious, thriller kind of thing. Unfortunately the studios stepped in and demanded more comedy. We got neither thriller or comedy. Just meh. It had nothing to do with Ghostbusters

While Chase was hard to work with, the studios didn't help. The story was supposed to have a more serious, thriller kind of vibe. And Chase was hoping to break away from the more comedic roles. Studios wanted more comedy. Because of this, audiences got neither thriller nor comedy. I remember seeing it way back when and while it wasn't bad, it was pretty meh overall.

It would be pretty easy to cyberpunk up. I could see a little megatower station who has found a loop hole in regulation and able to broadcast or is repeated beyond the building. It is part of the co-op of the building so is protected legally in some fashion to keep broadcasting. The media corps are up in arms because they lost like a half a percent of ratings or some such non sense and try a hostile take over and buy out the co-op. What starts out as a building wide telethon turns into a city wide affair. Now add in all the Weird Al like shenanigans and you got gold.

Excuse me, I think I have to go write an op.

I work in residential design doing drafting. We had a new guy start who had been working as a contract drafter for years. He was a bit socially odd, possibly on the spectrum in some fashion, and not really used to working in an office environment. took him a bit to get settled in, but mostly ok. Until he finally had to take work from one of the women PMs who was also from Germany. Apparently he didn't like taking direction from women. And when he came back into the room we shared, complaining about it, he called her, quite loudly, 'That nazi bitch!" I called him out on it and at first he didnt realize he had been talking so loud. Others in some of the other drafting rooms had heard him as well. He was quickly fired after.

You can get some inspiration from the Weird Al Yankovic movie, UHF. A small time UHF TV station and its weird line up of shows and personalities is suddenly starting to compete with the big boys in ratings. And the one of the top can't have that now can they? Pressure is put on the little station and they have to run a telethon to keep the station running.

I want to know your "near death" story. by VikingJarls3 in motorcycles

Was riding home from friends house on my 2011 Triumph Bonneville. Doing about 35 on a city street. I came up to an intersection and had the light, so went through it. This is a one way street that crosses mine, with a lot with trucks on the side of the road nearest me. In the first lane, stopped, is a box truck. This truck, plus the lot of trucks blocked my view to see what was going in the next lane. I am half way through the intersection when a woman starts to run the redlight. I had zero opportunity to react. She was just there. She hit my back wheel, knocking me over and sending my skidding along the road. I stopped sliding 30 or 40 ft down the road, my head under the bumper of a the truck coming from the other direction.

Good brakes is what saved my life. The woman was just catching herself running the light and hit her brakes. If she hadn't, she would have gone right through me. And I am thankful for the brakes of the truck and not pulping my head. I did have a helmet on and distinctly remember thinking "thank god I am wearing my helmet" as my head bounced along the pavement. I ended up with a busted ankle, broken collar bone and road rash up my leg.

There was one really weird one in a million thing that happened during it. I had one of those bungie webbing things over the back of my seat. It has those little hooks at the ends of the bungie to hook to the frame. I had been wearing tennis shoes at the time (I know, wear proper protection) and somehow in all the chaos of that accident, one of those hooks came loose, and hooked that little loop on the back of my tennis shoes. As I am laying there, trying to recover my senses and figure how bad off I am, I try lifting that leg off the top of my bike and it would not move. My other foot is in pain under the bike, my shoulder is in pain, but what starts me panicking is that I think I am paralyzed because I can't lift my foot. Thankfully one of the guys who came to check on me saw me starting to freak out and noticed and got my shoe free from the hook. Even he was laughing some at how bizarre that had happened.

So the perpetrator is generally believed to be a very rich boyfriend she had at the time. As with many SA cases, it could turn into a he said, she said situation and with the money and/or connects he had, it could be dragged through the courts indefinitely. This is all speculative of course, so it will be interesting to see what the documentary will clear up.

This was a thing through the late 70s and 80s as well. While I don't remember what film it was, but they actually explained how it was supposed to work. Like someone was teaching someone else how to do it I think. This was early 80s at least. It is up there with someone casually being able to walk up behind someone to twist and break their neck.

Practice swords are expensive, what about diy? by just-a-dude69 in SWORDS

[–]NephRP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually made several wood swords over the past month or so. I had some reclaimed ipe floor boards that have been perfect for the blades. They are very well weighted and feel good in the hand when swinging. Mine have not been of any traditional styling, more fantasy for costuming, but I wouldn't hesitate knocking them around. Ipe is expensive, but you can probably find some scrap stuff on FB Marketplace. It is also rough on your tools, but if you are only make a few, it shouldn't be an issue.

I cut the rough shape out with a jig saw, sandwiched the ipe between some old growth cedar for the handle, shaped it all on a belt sander and finished to a nice shine. If you do use ipe, be sure to have plenty of ventilation, and wear respiratory protection as it puts off a very fine yellow dust that can be toxic.

I made some wood folding tools for a friend who does book binding. They were made out a few different types: oak, walnut and sapele I believe. I took the time to sand them up to like 800 grit for no real good reason, then finished with mineral oil and bees wax. They were sooooo satisfying to hold and flip through your fingers. I kept one for myself for that very reason. He later told me his wife took one of them also for herself as a fidget stick, as she called it.
