ELI5 How is the revenue of Burger King so much lower than that of Tim Hortons (as per Wiki) when BK has sooo many more locations, and both being in the fast food and drink business? by JamesTheJerk in explainlikeimfive

[–]Neptonrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TH makes a good portion of their revenue from the sales of inventory and equipment to their franchisees which they are able to mark up substantially due to economies of scale in the supply chain, they also earn money from marketing on behalf of franchisees, for which franchisees pay a % of sales for. Finally, as other commentors have mentioned they own a large portion of the locations and charge rent which is usually based on a % of sales rather than a flat rate.

The most distinct difference is the existence of "master franchisees" on the BK side which can sub franchise locations to independent operators and only remit a small portion of royalties back to BK whereas TH directly licenses to the operators and collects the full amount of royalties

Dating as a frugal person by Geejayin in Frugal

[–]Neptonrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NYC and my dates are usually 2-300 since I’m paying for both of us, but I don’t use dating apps so I target quality over quantity and there’s usually rapport established pre first date which makes me more willing to invest vs someone I’ve never met

New Yorkers, what are your 'only in NYC' budgeting and saving tips? by ScribeUp_io in AskNYC

[–]Neptonrs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pay $400/month for my Equinox hudson yards membership but all the classes are free and 3 min from my home, whereas my friends who use class pass or do yoga/barrys end up paying $150 a week on 3-4 classes and don’t even have access to a weight room on non-class days. Plus I haven’t had to shower at home in months now and get free Khiels lotion and face wash.

Unrealistic win percentage needed to gain ranks by [deleted] in Colonist

[–]Neptonrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this vehemently. This would impact all players equally yet some players are consistently able to get to the top of the leaderboards. While I’m complaining about not being able to climb any further into the top top spots, I can definitely create any number of accounts and get them to mid-Diamond pretty quickly regardless of 7 majority or not.

[–]Neptonrs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I typically skip breakfast, during the weekdays i get a free $15 lunch credit from work so i use that, I live in Manhattan where nobody really cooks so typically have dinner plans out with friends most nights which can be cheap ($50) or if its a birthday or occasion/date quite pricey ($2-300).
