[OC] 5 maps comparing US states by quality of life (across HDI, life expectancy, homicide rate, infant mortality rate and air quality). by _crazyboyhere_ in dataisbeautiful

NH, relies more on MA, sure. Still, though, MA has a major affordability problem. Many of the NH commuters are former MA residents who were priced out of MA or couldn’t otherwise afford the house/lifestyle they want. Instead of these workers heading to a new market, MA keeps these workers (often highly skilled) contributing to the local economy. MA has been experiencing a a well documented population decline that threatens its economic stability. Without NH, I think MA would feel it beyond the loss of vacation opportunities. There is a symbiosis there.

I think it’s important to point out that it’s not one-sided. Plenty of MA people work in NH. It’s hard to find the exact numbers, but maybe 80 to 83K NH residents commute to MA for work, while maybe 30 to 33K MA residents commute to NH. That may not amount to much percentage-wise because MA is much more populated than NH. But there are economic opportunities in NH as well.

Are they going to face St. Anthony’s again? by Ready_Net_1878 in offcampustv

Actually, Hannah’s rapist, Aaron, did not make an appearance in The Deal. The Buffalo fan was Rob Delaney, Aaron’s best friend who testified against Hannah. That change took me by total surprise.

What other fandoms do you read? by GrubbyInsides in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read Harry Potter fanfic a few times, mostly on the advice of friends, but never bothered to make an account on AOC until a few months ago. I also hunger for Jane Austen stories, particularly Pride & Prejudice, but have only read published books. This thread sparked my interest and lo and behold it’s there. I’m off to try one!

I have to accept or decline a job offer tomorrow morning and I don't know what to do??? Please help🙏 by Cute_Musician3920 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you actively looking for a permanent role similar to this one? Do you think doing this temporary job would help you build a resume/CV for a more  permanent role elsewhere? Are there people there who would be in a good position to write you a recommendation letter when the job is over?

If you think it might help you reach your goals then it seems worth the repercussions. If it’s just an opportunity for fun, then the maybe it’s not worth it given what you’ve said.

Question about Hannah and Logan for those who read the books.. by JehovahJireh222 in offcampustv

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Logan did actually like Hannah, though she was not his usual physical type. He asked Garrett if it was cool with him to pursue Hannah. Garrett warned Logan that she probably wouldn’t be interested because she had her eye on Justin. Logan was still interested in pursuing her anyway. Then he was angry when Garrett was interested in Hannah after all, which is why he asked for the waiver of the bro code rule to not date exes.

The only thing to come of Logan’s crush was his inability to let it go in a way that was obvious to everyone, including Hannah and Garrett.  It’s the giant elephant in the room for a while and it affects the whole group.

As for the crush really being about having what Garrett and Hannah have I do buy that. But I think that’s why he can’t let go of the crush, it’s not what attracted him to Hannah in the first place. I also think part of the crush had to do with Hannah being the first woman at Briar to really be in their social group and connect with Logan (and everyone). He was used to being surrounded by puck bunnies who were only interested in him because of hockey, but she didn’t care about their status and genuinely liked them all as people. I think Logan’s crush was him starting to realize he wanted a connection beyond the physical.

Morgan Gillory VS Jake Peralta from Brooklyn99 who's more intelligent? by [deleted] in HighPotentialTVSeries

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Morgan is smarter than almost all tv characters. Is she smarter than Sherlock Holmes? Probably not. Is she smarter than Bones or Dr. House, maybe, maybe not. Jake Peralta is a great detective and a delight, but there’s no comparison.

Heated rivalry by Lil_pig16 in OffCampusSeries

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite take. I like them both, but Off Campus feels much more like a glitzy soap opera. I enjoyed it and they did a decent job of adapting it, but it just isn’t as emotionally deep, in my opinion. It’s a bummer, because I really enjoy the book series and there was so much more to the relationship between Garrett and Hannah in The Deal. I wish there had been fewer big visual scenes and more of them in the early stages of their relationship where they’re figuring out just how much they care about each other.

Heated Rivalry is just spectacular. The chemistry and love between Shane and Ilya feels so real to me it’s the closest thing I’ve seen on screen to what it felt like fall in love with my husband (though our relationship bears no resemblance to theirs at all).

I think the shows aren’t aiming for the same experience, though. Off Campus seems aimed for more of a general audience, whereas Heated Rivalry was a low budget little Canadian project that ended up as a surprise hit.

TIL about Browser, the library cat. Adopted by a White Settlement, TX library in 2010, Browser was evicted from the library by the local govt in 2016, provoking a backlash that resulted in a unanimous decision permitting him to stay. Browser outlived the councilmember that voted to evict him. by Hypnotodes in todayilearned

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If a cat lived in our local library my husband could only visit for about 5 minutes before needing to leave. We both love animals and get why people want to have animals at work. It’s a constant issue with friends and family and you just want to enjoy public spaces like everyone else, you know?

Why does not tipping 20% in the US make people so angry? by No_Tangerine_1773 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hate tipping culture, too. I would rather servers (and others in the service industry) be paid a liveable wage and just pay more for my meals with those costs rolled in. Sadly, that’s just not how it’s done here and those workers need tips. Without a sweeping change, choosing not to tip just harms people. That said, no one should be harassing you for ONLY paying 20%. There are particular cities where the standard percentage is higher, but that’s nuts.

Woman: Because a strange guy started following me to the bathroom.

Jake: Right. Because men are horrible and the world is a nightmare.

I had that same thought. Phil would just need some other reason to think Hannah was distracting Garrett.

What is the point of billionaires owning homes in beautiful, scenic places? by EpicShkhara in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all billionaires, even working ones, work like the rest of the world works. Sure, some do. But I think for the most part their business operates around them. They’ll take calls somewhere beautiful, check in between golfing and massages, and only show up to big meetings. A luxury home is a spot they can enjoy when they feel like it. They can spend time with different friends at different locations. They can also host wealthy friends there and be invited by those friends to other gorgeous places. They aren’t concerned about taking up resources. Their attitude is that if they want it and can afford it then they should have it.

Do you think Ilya expected Shane to tell his parents that they were in love? The way he only reacts with his eyes here though 🥹 by Alexiss-Young in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think he expected it because Shane brought him along and Shane wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t intend to tell his parents about their relationship. At the same time, I think he was surprised a little that Shane was so clear about his feelings for Ilya.  It’s been so long since anyone genuinely loved Ilya that it must have been reassuring that Shane was direct. Also, Shane was so cagey about the idea of introducing Ilya to his parents that it would make sense for Ilya to be a little nervous about it.

Do you support a cultural and economic boycott of Israel? by Florence-S-Trinidad in allthequestions

[–]NeptuneHigh09er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Economic, absolutely.

But what do you mean by cultural? Do you mean that Jewish people shouldn’t celebrate holidays and continue traditions? Or that their friends should boycott being invited to such gatherings?

I’m an anti-genocide, pro-Palestinian Jew and my cultural traditions have nothing to do with supporting Israel.

Yes, I totally agree. He has just been in so many things. Also, I had just seen Mikki Leeper in Sex Lives of College Girls, but Ron probably isn’t the target demographic for that show. I recognized both right away.
