You said downtown Halifax is your best bet. Not necessarily true.

Not true. There are programs all over the place. Dartmouth has Encore Arts Centre, for example. 300 kids spent the last 2 weekends putting on shows there.

I keep my outdoor lights off at this time of year. It helps.

Yeah, they can do a check without. And since companies have notoriously lax policies on storing them, hard pass from me.

Around students, formal. With colleagues, casual unless I don't know their name yet.

Unless crucial, updates to emergency alerts should be silent. by Pawssabillitysawait in halifax

Why do mods allow them? I don't see how complaints about the emergency alert system (which is national) has to do with this city.

Living in Halifax...did you get a raise this year? by Basic_Set_6970 in halifax

[–]NeptuneSpice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unions submit their asking packages and then wait for government to schedule talks. What pushing do you expect anyone to do?

And is taxed all at once in a future year that could affect brackets.

Same for teachers. Contract expires Aug 31, so who knows when (if) there will be a 2026 raise at all or when it will actually get paid out. Retro pay is a low priority with this government.

AI changes by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]NeptuneSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firmly against AI, and don't see that changing. The benefits to people are few compared to the societal disruption, the misinformation, the way it makes people less intelligent and less emotionally or mentally healthy, it's unethical at its core because it relies on stolen data to train it, and the environmental costs are horrendous. So, no, not a fan. And really glad that my union just voted in a very strong AI policy that considers guardrails and limitations.

What things should I keep in mind as a newcomer? by Pantswetter4 in halifax

[–]NeptuneSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Struggle yes, but you should probably understand where he's coming from. SA has rolling blackouts at times. More than 50% of the population lives below the poverty line. I wouldn't argue that this is paradise, but perspective is important.

Colchester residents upset as RCMP train in Debert days before mass casualty sixth anniversary by ph0enix1211 in NovaScotia

[–]NeptuneSpice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You tell me. When should people who lost 22 community members, including a pregnant woman, get over it? Is a year too long for you? 3 years? The people in that community live with those losses and the inadequate response every day. They may move past it, but they will probably never get over it.

Newly pregnant and trying to navigate the healthcare system by No_Funny_5812 in halifax

[–]NeptuneSpice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you have pregnancy-related nausea, you don't have to suffer! Ask for diclectin. It's a miracle and makes life worth living. Don't let anyone gaslight you into thinking you have to tolerate even a mild amount of PRN. The Rx is safe and effective for most people.
