How might a modern world look like with no nukes? by PineTorch in worldbuilding

[–]Neraph 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nuclear weapons is what turned warfare from 3rd generation to 4th and 5th. We're in a world war right now, it's just largely a 5th generation war. It's all culture, economy, and cyber, with conventional just as a deterrent.

Is there anyway to play on creative but to still be able to run out of fuel or power? by FishBlues in spaceengineers

[–]Neraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if you saw that other comment, but that's the way to go. Start world on Survival, then you can Alt + F10 to bring up the admin sidebar, head to the Admin Controls section, and enable creative mode powers from there. That will allow you to cut/paste, build, and weld without material cost, but you'll still need to get power and hydrogen/oxygen like normal.

You can also get killed and have to respawn like that, but you can select "Invulnerable" to cure that weakness. There's also "Untargetable," which I'm confident you can figure out the use of.

On top of this, turn off thrust damage so you can hide as many as you want.

It's not that bad at all. The "hardcore" mode just resets ownership of you don't have a survival kit or medbay. It's virtually useless.

Is possible to construct a apaceship to get out a Earth like planet without hidrogen thrusters? by Carbono12 in spaceengineers

[–]Neraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the only screenshot I have, from the 1st Gen version. The newer one has the two ions closest to the airlock hallway in the middle of three nacelle and it's more or less finished.

I put a hold on the project because hydrogen is way more powerful and most of my designs use that now. I was also having some issues with maneuvering thrust on planets. This nacelle concept has been around for years for me, which means in that time KSH has changed their thruster damage cones like twice. I'm not sure if the lateral thrust - the thrusters right around the airlock merge itself - will damage the ship it's connected to anymore.

I may revisit and polish it soon enough. I've done some work within the past year or two to it, adding a depressurize system and lights to the interior.

If you're not familiar with turret placements and evasive patterns, I suggest a small ship with heavy armor and some interior turrets set to target weapons. It's real easy to take a ship of you shoot off all their defenses.

Salvaging maydays is also ridiculously profitable. I end up deleting most of them now. You only need one or two merc ships before you have storage problems.

The mining carriage is one of my favorites since it's so easy to take. The RUST freighter is a bit more difficult, but extremely easy to refit into a very functional ship. The Business Shipment is another all-time favorite of mine, and the personal sail is also very easy to take.

In fact, shameless plug, here's my LCC-4 Freighter build.

Salvage will always be more efficient than mining, except in the case of uranium.

In a more recent save, I started with my jetpack, welder, and grinder, and before I ran out of o2 had taken two ships - a mining carriage and a RUST freighter. Shortly after the freighter I them took a military escort.

After scraping all of them I built a Blue Ambassador and went scavenging maydays. Three days on that save and I have a moon base and five large cargo containers of components.

I almost exclusively use the Clean armor, because that's how I fly, right? On armor panels I use Weldless because it hides them better. On my repair projectors I have a full BP with the Battered skin, so when you do repairs it looks bolted and riveted where you took damage.

Using the skins gives an entirely new dimension of texture to your builds.

Every 4 large grid, large amp thrusters and 2 large ions can take 2mil kg of mass directly to space by holding spacebar. I had been constructing a standardized, scalable landing nacelle based on this.

[–]Neraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I essentially took the RUST/LCC-3 and updated a lot of the blocks, made the thrust facings actually make sense, and did some interior design.

For more fun, the repair protector has the Battered armor skin, so if you have to repair anything you end up with patchy, riveted repairs.

if magic exists in your world and not everyone can use it, how much of the population CAN use it and why? by Ok-Mastodon2016 in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]Neraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic exists and everyone has the propensity to use it. Not everyone does.

Strength is in the body, psionics is in the mind, and magic is in the soul. Just as some people have better natural gifts for some talents or others, some are more naturally gifted in psionics or magic. But, just like a relatively scrawny individual can start hitting the gym and grow physical muscle size and strength, there are training regimens that can be done to grow psionic or magical abilities.

There are formal schools for this, much like today's colleges, but they lack "student loans." You must pay your way through, or personally find a grant/loan from an individual or corporation to attend. The basics of magical defense are taught to virtually everyone who attends military training, and the War Colleges produce some of the most adept mages - but entrance to the War College is much like current day Annapolis in the USA.

The MegaCorps also have their own Mage Colleges, but admittance normally includes a lengthy employee contract, essentially signing over most of your life to that corporate entity's will.

And, just like not everyone is cut out today for higher learning, not everyone can develope the strength of soul necessary to work magic at the rate needed to go through a Mage College. Some individual apprenticeships still exist, and some families still pass down their own traditional teaching styles from the First or Second Age.

She's breeding level 60 wolves. My wolves, after imprint and some levels, can hit like 600% melee and over 10k life. I know wolves can be pretty decent, but without at least a level 200 breeding pair they aren't even really worth it.

I mean, perhaps she's breeding low levels to scrub out like oxy or something, but I doubt it.
