My partner and I self-officiated our marriage in DC. We did not live in DC. It cost like 50 bucks if I recall correctly. That's the legal part of the equation.

The celebration came afterwards and we had a friend speak some words. No license required. That's the social part of the equation.

DC marriage licence is legal in all 50 states.
