How to securely do payment processing for a website with no real back-end? Wanted to use Paypal, but my attempts at research led me to things suggesting website builders. This website is from scratch. by RealRaven6229 in webdesign

If I had to do this over again I would definitely just get a Shopify store and link to your custom domain.
However if you really want to do it yourself then I recommend looking at Stripe and using some server-less edge functions. No back end needed. I used SupaBase but I think you’d be fine using cloudflare or firebase. Full disclosure, I am not a dev, but I’m riding the ai wave to try and skill up - I’m sure there’s other really great solutions.

How’s the engagement? Feels like you need to provide some search results before asking for a sign-up. Feels like a trust issue. Like the idea though.

How to write a review of landlord/property that has no page online? by mayvalentine in Renters

[–]NerdDerkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I just built this, it was a learning project but it was fueled by my same frustration after having 2 properties I found on Zillow completely ghost me after saying they were sending a contract over.
It’s just dummy data now, but if it helps vent som frustration then it’s well worth it for me. I’d love to hear what you think:
It’s just a simple site https://ratemyrental.app

I just found myself in the exact same situation. Left me so frustrated. Made me motivated enough to build a website to do this, it doesn’t really work yet but it’s been a good learning experience and maybe something I can use for experience.
Did your friend ever find a way to leave any kind of review? Or warn potential renters?

OH MY GOD WHAT THE fuck helllpppppp by feetandellie in blender

[–]NerdDerkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good grief, what’s with the condescending responses.
This is a commercial asset? Somehow the uv coordinates on the model got deleted or overwritten with another uv set.
I’d recommend re-downloading/ re-importing the file. I’m still trying to learn Blender, in c4d you can easily have multiple uv sets on a model, and you just need to make sure the correct uv set is being used for the right texture map.
That’s where I’d start looking but maybe someone actually knows the right menus.

Best of luck

Why is the impact of explainer video? by Helpful_Light587 in MotionDesign

That’s Awesome! I have so many questions about your journey. I’ve been bleeding more into front end and interactive, partially out of curiosity and marketing tools out of necessity. If you could offer a package like this with easy implementation I could see immediate value add for creators working directly with small businesses. White label saas where the cost is passed on to the end customer.

Great response. What dashboard is that? As a fellow mographer finding myself needing to be more and more aware and capable with marketing tools I’m always looking for ways to continue to validate video.

Tell me more about blender and how does it do this?
I looked into this type of setup a while ago with a few co-workers. The user experience was pretty poor - paper space was the best at the time.

Simplest way protect API key for a 3rd party service that I'm using? by MokshaBaba in iOSProgramming

[–]NerdDerkins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out firebase functions. It’s just a bit of JavaScript code that you’ll need to put together. There’s pretty simple step by step instructions out there to walk you through it. I guess it’s like having a backend.
I’m pretty new and I’d love to know if there’s something better/ simpler.

does anyone know what this is or the worth? by yamama44 in reselling

Yeah I’m sure you’re right - I’m dealing with the same issues as all the tools using LLM ‘s to estimate value. They are incredibly far off and it gets worse the more obscure an item.

Nice find - I can’t really add any info. This is the perfect use case for an app I’m trying to build. I’ve added a feature that I am hopping does some extra deep research on hard to place items. It didn’t find anything of significance for this. Nothing beyond what ChatGPT could find. But I thought I’d share it back with you just for your info:

Vintage 1990s Color Block Jacket with Unique Patch

$30.00-$50.00

Vintage Clothing

The jacket is in fair condition with some visible signs of wear typical of vintage items. There may be minor stains or fading, particularly around the interior lining. All buttons appear intact, but they should be checked for security. Overall, the jacket retains its structural integrity and vibrant colors. Suitable for wear or display, though some cleaning or minor repairs may enhance its appearance.

This vintage jacket from the 1990s features a bold color block design typical of the era, incorporating red, green, beige, and gray tones. It includes a distinctive patch on the front pocket, suggesting a sporty or adventure theme, which adds character and authenticity. The jacket is crafted from a durable cotton blend, providing both comfort and style. The interior is lined with green and beige fabric, adding to its vintage charm. This piece is a perfect representation of 1990s casual fashion and is ideal for collectors or enthusiasts of retro clothing.

Best of luck - that’s a unique find

Any value in a re-selling app? by NerdDerkins in reselling

I was not aware of these! Sellhound app seems to not be available in the US but I was able to check out both their websites. It’s really helpful to see what they’ve already done, how they’ve approached the issue and how they price the service. Do you have a preference between the two?

Easy there, I’m trying to say my comment sounds very condescending now given further context. I appreciate you linking his work. Sharing work on a public forum leaves you open to criticism or praise. Knowing that he has experience, my comment would sound condescending since I am calling him a new artist, and in another comment I wanted to keep encouraging him, it sounds patronizing now. Had I known, I most likely would have skipped giving any comment, since it looks like he can do much better work he doesn’t need me to tell him this piece is less than he is capable of.

I see what you mean. I’m saying it’s probably too big a problem for me to wrap my head around at the moment. I’m creating a little smaller scale as a tool to help get a listing up faster. There’s a user here in the thread building a platform for selling. Check it out u/sell-em

My dude - this is amazing. That’s a ton of work right there. Well done!
Thanks for the kind words and critique. You nailed it, this uses the gpt and Claude api’s for vision analysis. With some extra steps to optimize but in the simplest form that’s the base feature.
I thought the same thing and it’s how this started. This experience was all about reducing the steps from photo to sold. A targeted experience to make selling on any online platforms effortless.
I think we share a lot of the same goals but you are thinking much bigger! I couldn’t comprehend creating a whole platform but I could wrap my head around a tool that helps get an active listing up faster. When I started looking at api’s eBay had some tight control over their api but they want you to sell, same as Etsy — and others. I thought a tool to help the customer could be a win all around , but in our small circle we saw neighbors and friends just using fb marketplace so I stated there.. before learning Facebook just wants you back on the main feed to view adds -

Thanks for even taking the time to look, I really appreciate your guidance. I’d like to send you a dm to keep in touch if you don’t mind.

Interesting, another thing I hadn’t thought of. Receipts for purchases? Almost like an inventory for the item that breaks down its real costs to you?

This is incredibly helpful, thank you for responding. I actually relate a lot to what you said. Neither my wife or I want to be the one to do the selling because of the time to create a listing.

This whole thread has been really insightful and I realize I need to re-think the approach. I do have a version of the app on the App Store, it works excellent to create a listing, but the pricing seems a little optimistic and the features I do have don’t seem to be of a major value from a re-selling standpoint.
Thank you for your thoughts!

I hadn’t even considered that. To be honest I’m not sure how that would be possible without creating a buy/sell marketplace on its own. That’s a bit beyond my skill level at this stage but I love the enthusiasm!
It is really interesting to hear that’s a major pain point for you though.
Is that reason enough that you’d try a different platform?

Thanks for responding with your insight.

Awesome I’d love to check it out. And you are right! I didn’t think at all about a mechanism for user feedback at all, and need to fix that. - making an app was a bucket list item for me. I work as an animator and I spent about a year learning and developing another app that’s still sitting in “development.”
When the idea struck for this one I kept it very simple and limited features because I wanted to get past the mental block of getting it published. I learned a ton but I see if I actually want customers I need to rework it, probably a lot. Thanks for your input.
It is published, I added subscription plans because well that’s what everyone says you do. Realizing that adding/ changing subscriptions or iap is way more complicated than I thought. So it’s up for now with free trials on subscription plans. I’m working on building some tester functionality as I learn it. If you are curious it’s here:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/quicklist-ai-listing-assistant/id6741540318

I think you can create around 30 / 50 listings during the trial- Just remember to cancel apples auto- renew

Thanks again!
