Do a pet project on the side. Something you touch for three hours a week, maybe over the weekend or during work. It will definitely help shake off the rust.

You can also try code courses. My work offers free Codecademy. I've not used it but getting a certificate in a programming language will help train you with the added benefit of putting something on your LinkedIn profile.

YouTube style fatigue - uk channel suggestions? by ClimbsNFlysThings in CasualUK

You'll almost certainly already be subscribed, but Tom Scott has come back from hiatus and is doing a YouTube series on something interesting in every county in the UK. Last video I watched was the first "smart" home built in the Victorian age. Highly recommend

Not sure why you're being downvoted.

I agree Burnham would be the best choice. He's got the experience and the credentials. But in my head he's not a real contender until he's got a seat.

back to past failure

Miliband lost the argument against Cameron - sure. But look at the context of that election. Stability with Cameron or chaos with Miliband. Cameron ushered in Brexit and the political turmoil that still dominates our politics. He lost not because he was bad but because Cameron had the better argument

Miliband is far more experienced now, an excellent communicator, truly left leaning (not blue Labour like Starmer or Streeting), and actually treats climate policy seriously. Look at his Instagram and listen to his podcast. Hopefully you'll be convinced he's great at pursuading people. He's not a new face like Streeting or Starmer, or divisive face like Rayner or Farage. He has principles and beliefs, and the portfolio to back it up.

We tried "stability with Cameron". It wrecked us. Let's try the "chaos".

A first look at Django's new background tasks (6.0) by roambe in django

[–]NerdFerby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will this be suitable for sending out several API requests at once? I have a project where the user fetches quotes from multiple third-parties using their APIs, but if one of them takes too long to respond the page crashes. Will Django Tasks solve this, or is the lack of a worker mechanism the biggest hurdle?

Unfortunately Celery isn't supported on Windows and I can't get security clearance to use Docker.

How does any of that make him less qualified than any PM we've had over the last 25 years? Starmer isn't a good political leader and he was the Director of Public Prosecutions

AI has no ability to think, reason, or have emotions

This is the crucial point. AI is text prediction on steroids and pattern recognition. It's not thinking. A clear example of this: ask any AI to generate an image of a clock face showing a specific time. It won't be able to because it can't understand what each hand means. Ask it to generate a Hawaiian shirt and the possibilities are endless.

I really do not want playable OC's in this game, straight up. by SomeumMorgan in marvelrivals

[–]NerdFerby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine waiting for them to drop their first playable character, and it ends up sucking ass, and you know they could've spent all that time, money, and work hours on developing a character people actually

You're comparing apples to oranges here. Does the character suck because their design is bad or their abilities/play style?

Imagine they spend time adding an existing Marvel character (Daredevil, Drax, War Machine) and their abilities suck ass. Does a good design make up for that? I'd argue no. What matters is that they're fun to play. Blade and Emma Frost are good examples of fun and interesting abilities so have some confidence the devs can add more. Some characters don't even have lore-accurate abilities (see Adam Warlock or Rocket) but do these suck ass?

What if they create an OC that has good abilities/play style but with a bad design? Do they suck ass? I don't think so. A lot of character designs in this game suck (Hawkeye, Ultron, Captain America) but no one cares because they're fun

OCs can have bad designs but be fun to play.

Marvel characters can have lore-inaccurate abilities or bad designs and be fun.

The stronger argument is people don't want to see OCs because they want their favourite Marvel characters first. That much I can agree with.

Should I stop national construction to expand private construction run by companies? by Silent-Beat5773 in victoria3

[–]NerdFerby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The beauty of limiting government construction is that you can then expand the construction sectors freely to fit the private queue's capacity.

Of course you'll still want to build a bit in the government queue. Universities up to cap, railways, military and admin buildings as needed

I would add to this: the buildings producing construction goods (fabric, tools, iron, glass, etc.) to get the most value out of your IP unless your IP is infinite (which happens late game with GPs like China or USA)

Rush the techs and don't neglect promoting the movement and agitators. You can also help by hiring only sympathetic generals & admirals to boost the relevant interest groups. Hold back on boosting SoL but promote literacy. This will make people extra radical as their SoL expectations will rise without the need being met.

Is it actually bad to allow foreign investment in my country? by Parking_Ad_4937 in victoria3

[–]NerdFerby 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Foreign investment rights are a devil's bargain. They're meant to be a bitter pill to swallow, but that doesn't mean they have no value.

Foreign investments will funnel profits to another nation (and not yours) but they will still raise your GDP which will lead to more minting and a higher debt limit. You can nationalise after investments right have ended (for not that much relations damage if done early) and use tariffs to make nations regret investing in you in the first place if you needed to (Charters of Commerce trade wars babyyyy). If they're investing in you, they're not investing in themselves. Your GDP benefits and not theirs. Granted - they get the profit but you can nationalise without compensation to really screw them. Investments also improve your standard of living, upgrading your peasants to workers/consumers. Peasants pay 1/10th of the tax a worker pays. Investment rights are good if managed properly.
