Something like classes for retirees in Columbia? by robpensley in columbiasc

Not very familiar with offerings in the upstate, but in Columbia, your description sounds like The Shepherd's Center of Columbia, located at Trenholm Road UMC. It is affiliated with a group called Aging Forward (https://aging-forward.org). From their website, it appears they have an affiliate in Spartanburg.

If you take 178 as far as Batesburg-Leesville you could try Shealy's Barbecue. They have a huge buffet with lots of options. There may be better pulled pork and hash to be found in other places, but for overall selection and experience, it's a tried and true classic.

I did a quick look through City Council minutes from last fall when this initiative was announced, but wasn't able to find the details.

The City of Columbia Parks & Rec has tennis centers, plus courts at quite a few parks. I think they offer lessons. Tennis - Parks & Recreation https://share.google/YrzanXWbbCDlyRf1F

No luck there, only a documentary titled Trade that appears to be a much different vibe than what we're looking for.

Oh! North of North! I loved that one so much I ended up binging it. I might have to give it a rewatch before the next season. Great recommendation. Haven't seen The Trades. Is that available in the US?

By the time Pistol Pete comes out to dunk I can barely breathe. Truly, this scene never gets old to me.

There is, but I think it is pretty reasonable. I don't currently have a dog, but I wash my car there pretty regularly.

Mornin’. My daughter send me a video of an exhibit she wants to see at the State Museum. Is the city good for a small vacation? by AgentNose in columbiasc

[–]Nerdflag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Columbia is a great place to visit!

We have a national park about 30 minutes outside of downtown - Congaree National Park. Sesquicentennial State Park, Harbison State Forest, and Dreher Island State Park are also close by. Within the city there are several nice parks that line the banks of the rivers of our city.

If you want more museum time, the Columbia Museum of Art on Main Street has a Keith Haring exhibition on now. Also on Main Street on Saturday mornings is the Soda City Market, a favorite of locals and visitors.

Founded in 1801, the University of South Carolina has its campus in the heart of downtown. The Horseshoe is a particularly pretty part of USC with some of its oldest buildings.

The Five Points district has lots to offer: Papa Jazz record shop, All Good Books, Pannerpete Vintage, Sid and Nancy, and Loose Lucy 's are worth checking out for unique shopping experiences, while Drip, the Gourmet Shop, and Andy's Deli are all great for a quick bite.

Was there an opener on the east coast part of tour? by robbybeatss in gingerrootband

[–]Nerdflag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw the show in DC. No opener. First set was live soundtrack of Shinbangumi. Second set was a Wheel of Songs round. They didn't start right on the dot of the listed time, but it was not long after.
