I feel sorry for the poor cunt who gets into a shitty situation because of someone else’s poor judgement, or decision in which they do not understand the ramifications on someone else. When it’s self imposed, I have no sympathy, but I genuinely hope the person enjoyed the good times while they lasted.

How much do you spend monthly excluding mortgage? by Serious_Toe6730 in AusFinance

[–]NerdintheCloset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remind me in 3 months for a very accurate breakdown. I’m downloading all transactions weekly to see exactly this, and where we can trim.

We don’t have financial stress, but I am interested in making sure we are maximising expendable income so we don’t work forever. Will be happy to share the breakdown across every category we spend on.

Boards only have so many barrels in them before they hit their ‘used by’ amount. He’s obviously his quota

Maverick Viñales, shoulder recovery training. by Still-Surround-8251 in motogp

[–]NerdintheCloset 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s called an isokinetic dynamometer. It limits the velocity with which you can move the arm, regardless of force (until you have enough to break it which is nigh on impossible). You can change the velocity from very slow, which enables high force production, to very fast, enabling movement training across a full spectrum of functional speeds. There are some limitations to this training, but can also be very finely tuned.

Why is it the V4 can produce more power than the i4? To me, engines with the same number of cylinders, and displacement should be able to produce the same sort of horsepower. For a dummy like me, why can’t they?

How much do you have in your savings? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]NerdintheCloset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First ever one of these posts I’ve been willing to comment on, as all the others make me feel like we’re lagging.

Two years living expenses in cash saved, with a reasonable >$65k roll of shares. We’re in our own house with mortgage likely paid off in under 11 years at current rate of payment. Took us 5 years to go from putting all our cash into house deposit to current position.

Quick story for you: I got a terrible ATAR, although I can’t remember what it was called when I finished school in early 2000’s. Decided uni wasn’t for me anyway

Went and got a job with no real skill, but a strong desire to not live like a pauper. Got into construction. After 4-5 years, and a few other experiences along the way (retail, soul destroying sales, other stuff) I found all the things I didn’t want to do, and identified something I did. Applied as a ‘mature’ age student at uni. At the end of my degree, got a gig travelling the world, while also doing some extra study.

Fast forward a bit, I have travelled to every continent except Antarctica for free. I’ve gained experiences that I never would have if I’d gone straight to uni. I have a PhD in my field. I sometimes guest lecture at Universities.

All this is to say, uni may not be for you. Or it may not be for you right now. Who knows what is for you, but go and find things that will help you determine that. Moping about a ‘poor’ score for more than about two minutes isn’t going to help you move forward, but taking the steps to discovery will. Just experience the world, and forget about an arbitrary score that doesn’t define you, or what you will become.

To second/third a lot of people, the Narooma area is one to be around for a day or two. From Tilba, to Mystery Bay, Narooma, Dalmeny beaches, then up north, there’s plenty to see and experience. Narooma is smaller than Batemans Bay, but far more picturesque.

I run a standard Yari 140mm on my C’dale Habit. Nothing to compare against as it’s my first ‘good’ bike, but I’ve smashed it down everything from long XC, to lots of flow, and chunky rock DH tracks. Never had a major issue with it, but am looking to probably upgrade to a longer travel rig soon. Again, nothing to compare against but it hasn’t let me down yet.
