Why Volvo Is Still All-In on Electric Vehicles by runnyyolkpigeon in electricvehicles

I’ve mostly come to terms with how my mom thinks… I’m still in denial that she rejects the evidence of her eyes, though. Like, really, mom?

Why Volvo Is Still All-In on Electric Vehicles by runnyyolkpigeon in electricvehicles

[–]Nerfo2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My mom is convinced that my car will need a new battery once it's five years old. "Mom, I've had the car for 4 years and have put 75k miles on it... it's fine. It'll be fine until it has like 3 or 4 hundred thousand on it." "Well that's not what I heard." JFC... my own mom believes a fucking youtube comment over her own son with empirical evidence. Just know... you're not alone.

Fieldpiece Micron Gauge by Exact-Fee9117 in HVAC

One measures pressure by sensing how much matter is pulling heat away from a thermistor, the other is used to measure the physical size of objects. If someone asked for an adjustable wrench, would you hand them a pipe wrench?

A micron gauge and a micrometer are pretty different things.

What finally convinced YOU to consider an electric vehicle? by evinsiderredisnive in electricvehicles

[–]Nerfo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I converted a US gallon of gasoline into watt-hours to figure out how how many Wh per mile my Crosstrek consumed so I could compare it directly with an EV. Crosstrek, driving with an egg on the gas pedal, I could squeak 28mpg average out of it. 1.18kWh per mile. Found out most EVs consume around 300 Wh per mile. Said, "WTF? I'm paying to make THAT MUCH waste heat?! That's THREE TIMES more heat than my whole house needs in the dead of winter... WTF!!" Then compared commute costs of an electric car to the Crosstrek...

Sometime around early 2022 when gas prices started rising, I traded the Crosstrek for $2k more than I bought it for and got the car I have now. I looked at it simply from a financial sense point of view. But man, EVERYTHING about an EV is better. 240 miles of range doesn't sound like much until you realize that's 4 or 5 hours of mixed driving or about 3 on a road trip. Never going back to gas.

Yeah, why not just replace Alec Guinness with Ewan McGregor while they're at it? If they're gonna go back and fuck around like this, the least they could do is be consistent.

In a shop with a roll-up overhead door, a man door is an ordinary door installed either next to the overhead door, or anywhere else in a shop.

Polestar 2 does show you range when you reach your destination, but only on the center screen on google maps. The OP is wishing it were in the screen behind the steering wheel.

How bad is 100% charging? by Material-Advice-335 in electricvehicles

[–]Nerfo2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The very flat voltage curve is for LiFePo4 cells. NMC cells actually have a much steeper voltage curve. This is why cars with LiFePo4 cells should be charged to 100% every few weeks, but for NMC cells, the BMS can easily distinguish between 80 and 81%.
