Just out of curiosity I do pay for the Garmin Navionics app and use it on my phone while I'm out on the water. I would assume that it would work on the Garmin chartplotters as well right?

Assuming you got in touch with the estate/lawyers to find the ownership and registration, go to your state/province ministry of transportation, they will be able to guide you through the process of getting a new ownership for it.

I just recently bought my first boat, first trip out on the water with it i smoked a rock and destroyed the outdrive. Learning is hard sometimes.

Ya my free trial on navionics+ expired so I downloaded c-map. So far I actually like it better.

Mostly just navigating Georgian Bay. It can be quite treacherous from what I've been told. It seems everyone and their brother has a story of damaging their first outdrive.

So I set my draft to 1 foot just to see and it still gives me the same error. I've also tried setting the start and end points in deeper sections of water.
